Black Clover: The Son of Fire Dragon Igneel
Chapter 718: SFDI - 718
Chapter 718: SFDI: Chapter 718
Drake didn’t beat around the bush and recounted what happened after Mavis "died" due to the curse.
Mavis appeared completely broken. Clearly, the shock of pregnancy and childbirth was too immense for her, a ghost whose psyche was still that of a young girl.
But soon, Mavis recovered, her expression softening, and her body seemed to begin to glow.
Drake knew this was the light of motherhood. Mavis must have been feeling pity for her son, whom she had never met.
Just from Drake’s narration, she could sense August’s loneliness and isolation, having spent so much time alone, unknown even to his parents.
Drake nodded inwardly. This was the state he needed. He didn’t believe the mere Wizard King, with his heart of stone, could withstand Mavis’s maternal offensive.
It was for this reason that after Drake truly revived Mavis as she requested, he set off to deal with the Gold Dragon God.
The concept embodied by the Gold Dragon God was the ability of "Alchemy," a mysterious system that ran parallel to magic.
The core of alchemy lay in transformation, the mutual conversion of substances, energy, and even ethereal existences like souls and concepts, by paying a price.
Alchemists generally focused on the creation of a specific item, much like mages.
However, for mages, as magic power was consumed during battle, the power of their spells would decrease. Alchemists, on the other hand, followed alchemical laws, so their creation efficiency remained constant.
But because of this, the output efficiency of alchemists was locked by laws, preventing them from unleashing power beyond their limits like mages. In short, both had their advantages and disadvantages.
The current Gold Dragon God was the concept of "Alchemy" itself, meaning as long as alchemy existed in this world, he was immortal.
To defeat him, he had to be reverted from his conceptual state to his original form.
This sounded difficult, but Drake, having seen the original story, already knew the specific strategy.
First, persuade Athena to join their side, then find the reclusive "True" Duke to create the Philosopher’s Stone.
Finally, Athena would fuse with the Philosopher’s Stone, and then Wendy would use advanced supplementary magic as a medium to materialize the Gold Dragon God into his true form, after which he could be beaten into submission.
Speaking of which, the Philosopher’s Stone was indeed a famous item in fantasy worlds. After all, the legendary Philosopher’s Stone, capable of turning lead into gold, best embodied the essence of the "Alchemy" system.
Drake had recently heard about the Philosopher’s Stone in the world of dungeons. The Philosopher’s Stone, refined by the legendary Great Sage Fels, possessed the ability to resurrect the dead. His main god was so shocked by its effects that he chose to destroy it.
In the Fairy Tail world, the Philosopher’s Stone was also considered the ultimate creation of alchemy, a legendary treasure. The mere fact that it could materialize the conceptualized Gold Dragon God was enough to prove its value.
And only the true body of Duke, the world’s number one alchemist, could refine the Philosopher’s Stone in this world.
Speaking of which, the final part—the beating—was actually the simplest.
However, there would inevitably be side quests in between, such as clearing the alchemists of the Golden Owl.
So Drake assigned the task to Lucy and the others who had accompanied him, as it was Lucy who, in the original story, guided Athena back to the right path.
Therefore, Drake himself directly infiltrated the enemy’s base—the Golden Owl, the number one alchemist guild located in Philan City, southeast of Guiltina. He waited until the mechanical girl left before making his move.
Looking up at the owl emblem on the castle, Drake could feel something watching him.
The sensation was strange. Neither magic sensing nor aura sensing detected anything, yet Drake’s hair stood on end instantly.
"The conceptualized Gold Dragon God?"
Drake raised an eyebrow and kicked open the large door before him.
As Drake had expected, he saw a group of alchemists waiting in the hall.
"Yo, quite lively!"
The leader was a man wearing a meticulously tailored long coat, a black scarf draped over his shoulders, his hair tied into a braid at the back of his head, and an eyepatch over his left eye.
He was the phantom of Duke Barbaroa, the concept itself, the materialized clone created by the conceptualized Gold Dragon God and the guild master of the Golden Owl.
Behind him stood many people, but Drake only recognized a few, including a gaunt man with the character "break" tattooed on his face, and two individuals dressed like Japanese kabuki actors and ninjas.
They were the alchemist Sai, and Gen and Kō, created by Duke through human alchemy.
Duke spoke slowly, like a noble from somewhere, "Welcome to the Golden Owl. I am Guild Master Duke!"
Drake raised his palm and interrupted, "No need for pleasantries. I’m not here to make friends!"
A low-level thug jumped out and said, "How dare you be so arrogant before our Guild Master! Today, we will teach you a lesson!"
"Chirping is so annoying!"
Drake, losing patience with the standard henchman’s speech, stomped his foot, and black and red lightning erupted!
A large group of alchemists collectively rolled their eyes, foamed at the mouth, and fell down.
Duke’s eyes narrowed. He was an existence formed by the concept of "Duke" and possessed Duke’s memories.
Even as Elefseria’s disciple and the foremost alchemist, he couldn’t discern the nature of Drake’s power.
After a satisfying sweep to clear the area with Conqueror’s Haki, only the few individuals with names from the original story remained standing.
Then Drake took a second step, crossing the hall of the Golden Owl and arriving before Duke.
Just then, a thick plume of smoke spread, engulfing Drake entirely. Duke’s figure also disappeared into the smoke.
"Iron × Smoke Alchemy – Invisible Iron Scythe!"
Facing Drake, Gen and Kō dared not underestimate him. They unleashed their alchemy in unison.
Numerous dark shadows flashed within the smoke; these were flying sickles forged from iron, rapidly circling Drake.
Drake remained motionless, letting the sickles fly and strike him.
The iron sickles, upon touching Drake’s body, melted and deformed like ice cream under the scorching sun.
This was the nature of advanced mages; their magic was integrated into their life force, and their bodies possessed magical power.
Moreover, Drake was a Dragon Slayer. His skin was already like dragon scales, and mere iron couldn’t penetrate his defense!
Gen and Kō naturally saw this, their eyes widening. They had always taken pride in being alchemists and looked down on mages.
But no one had told them that there were monsters among mages!
Then they saw wisps of flame emanating from Drake’s body, forming a fire dragon that incinerated all the smoke and sickles into nothingness!
"Is this all alchemists are capable of?"
Drake, with scale patterns appearing at the corners of his eyes, advanced step by step, a phantom dragon roaring behind him.
