Beast Bonding System: Cutting Ties In A Post Apocalyptic World.
Chapter 391: Who is that?
More groups from Beast Valley City landed in the stadium. Their entrance was far from graceful_ Tessi nearly tripped over a severed monster claw just as Zyra landed a super kick on a ferocious monkey that came too close for her liking. Her boots drove through its stomach, leaving a gaping hole in their path.
"Gross!" Zyra hissed, when it fell. She wiped her boot on its fur.
She scanned the stadium. Through the thick smoke and flying limbs, she noticed Hunter. He was charging headfirst into a horde of armored monsters, swinging his weapons like a madman.
Her heart clenched for a moment, as worry traveled through her mind. She did not know what him being corrupted would do, but it couldn’t be anything good. What if he ran out of energy and fainted right there and something stepped on him?
What of he went from attacking beasts to attacking humans? What if other people realized that he was not all human? Not to forget his psycho relatives out here. Just because things were not chaotic now, did not mean peace had been made. This would be the best time to take him and the grand elder out. Their death could be blamed on the beasts.
A giant Buffalo with sharp, metallic horns tried to impale Zyra from behind, aiming straight for her kidneys. Before the horns could pierce her, thick, shimmering snake scales erupted across her skin like a sudden outbreak of acne. The metallic horns hit her back and sparkled violently, snapping off like dry twigs.
"Did you really just try to poke me?" Zyra glared over her shoulder. She raised her hand and summoned her roster of evolved beasts. "Go, my children! Go beat up these overgrown pests!"
In a flash of blinding light, her summoned beasts materialized. The Beast Valley soldiers moved in tandem, releasing their own evolved beasts. Compared to the wild, brainless King Beasts, their evolved beasts were like disciplined military generals beating up drunk bar fighters. They formed line formations, throwing chewing and kicking beasts into coma.
What one beast couldn’t do, another stepped in. If one couldn’t handle a one-on-one fight, they tag teamed. This was the training Hunter and Nero had put them through. Even though they played a lot, they had also learned a lot.
Zyra didn’t wait around to watch. She leaped thirty feet into the air, landing square on the back of her Drake.
"Up we go, big bird!" she commanded.
The Drake let out a sonic screech and flapped its massive wings, soaring high above the arena. Zyra channeled her lightning technique, raining down blue lightning bolts that sizzled through the air.
Below her, hundreds of King Beasts were instantly zapped, twitching uncontrollably like frog legs in a hot frying pan. The surviving humans and guild fighters stopped mid-swing, staring up at the sky in complete awe.
"Who is that?!" a guild leader gasped, wiping beast blood from his eyes. "Is that a goddess?"
Zyra released more lightning, through her fingers. Each bolt infused with soul energy.
"Look at her face! It’s covered in dark green scales like a terrifying mask!" a woman squealed. "Is she a monster or a savior?!"
Meanwhile, down on the ground, Hunter grabbed his grandfather’s arm. "Grandfather! Get on Tyrant, quick! Let him fly you out of this crazy house!"
Tyrant, hovered above them, battling beasts in the air, but attentive to Hunter.
The Grand Elder smacked Hunter’s hand away with enough force to numb his fingers. "Fly to safety?! Are you calling me a coward, boy? A Grand Elder of the Kaelion clan and Beast Valley does not run from a bunch of small beasts. I have fought wars before, young man. Wars against Somnivores."
"Grandfather, this is not the time for your stubborn pride or a lesson in history." Hunter groaned, clutching his face. "Something is wrong with the air."
"If you have enough breath to argue with an old man, use it to save the humans!" the Grand Elder roared, punching a charging wolf so hard its fangs cracked. "Go! Now!"
Maverick slapped Hunter on the back. "I am here. Don’t worry." He was one of the few humans that could fight a King beast without relying on a half-life beast. From the very beginning when he bonded with his cat, he had refused to rely on it for strength.
He had always known that sooner or later, the Somnivores would find a way to disrupt this bond. And when that moment came, humans would be defenseless again. It seemed, his worries had been correct.
Hunter sighed, rubbed his bruised shoulder, and nodded. "Fine! Just don’t die on me!" He turned around and dove back into the fray, slicing down beasts left and right.
Down in the dark basement car park, Trinity thought the coast was clear. She crept out from behind her concrete pillar, tiptoeing toward the exit stairs.
"Just a few more steps... I’m free, I’m_ "
A loud howl cut off her words.
Trinity froze. She turned her head slowly. The purple wolf was standing five feet away, licking its lips.
"Nice doggy... good puppy..." Trinity whimpered, taking a tiny step back.
The wolf let out a ferocious growl and pounced directly at her face! A heavy sniper bullet tore through the wolf’s skull mid-air. The beast dropped like a sack of rocks_ landing straight on top of Trinity, squishing her flat against the concrete.
"OFF! Get it off me! It smells like a wet dog!" Trinity shrieked, kicking her legs like a flipped beetle until she managed to wiggle out from under the heavy corpse. She was covered in purple furn blood and drool, her expensive dress completely ruined.
Suddenly, two tall armed men dressed stepped out of the shadows and bowed deeply before her.
"Divine maiden, " one of them said smoothly. "We are here to escort you to safety."
Trinity’s eyes lit up. She wiped the blood off her face and straightened her hair, letting out a loud, arrogant laugh. "Ha! I knew it! True loyalty never dies! Lead the way, boys. When I get back to my army, I’ll promote you both to generals!"
She eagerly followed the two men noticing the dead bodies of other purple wolves on the ground. Her eyes widened. She could not imagine what would have happened if they had found her! Thankfully, these men had been professional enough to take them out.
She followed them eagerly into a secure locker room. As soon as the door heavy-slammed shut behind them, she went into arrogant mode.
The taller man reached up and slowly took off his black sunglasses and hat. It was Arrow. Next to him, Achilles folded his arms with a cold smirk.
Trinity’s smile instantly evaporated. "Why are you standing? Where is the getaway helicopter? Summon it and get me away from this damned stadium already." She settled onto a bench and frowned. "You look familiar." She pointed at Achilles.
"I really thought you were smart." Arrow laughed, shaking his head. "It seems like people have been giving you more credit than you deserve." He snapped his fingers. "Boss Zyra was right, as long as we rescued you in a moment of panic, you would be easy to fool."
Achilles laughed as well. "Now, the question is, how do you want to die?"
