Chapter 892 - 503: Embers of the Long Night (Part 12)

The greenish-black bricks exuded a chilling cold, as the sound of gongs and drums approached from the end of the ancient town, with a radiant red-clad procession.

Besides the wedding procession, the groom’s relatives accompanied them, regardless of age or gender, their faces were blank, yet they performed various actions, whispering conversations, and children chasing and playing. As they walked halfway, the twelve pairs beating gongs and drums at the front began to sing the wedding songs again.

The melody was like a mountain stream deep in the mountains, meandering and long, yet paired with the faceless figures, it seemed even more eerie.

"...Although they have an evil nature, they seem to follow a certain rule to kill. Before figuring out the pattern, never do anything out of line, but that doesn’t mean absolute safety."

The major whispered to Su Huan to impart his experience. At this moment, a child with a rattle ran into the wedding procession, letting out squeaky laughter, heading straight for Su Huan, as if not seeing him, directly colliding with him.

The chief of staff was startled and was about to warn, but before he opened his mouth, the child flew out like a cannonball.

"Bang! Bang! Bang!"

It crashed into six people in succession, disappearing into the depths of an alley.

A large gap appeared among the faceless figures beside the wedding procession.

The music paused, and the twelve drumming pairs at the front, along with the butler-like faceless figure, simultaneously turned their heads 180 degrees, staring intently at Su Huan.

Screechingly shouted, "What are you doing?"

The train conductor observed the instant distortion in the space and said lightly, "I thought it was a bridal snatcher, daring to rush into the young master’s wedding procession. Should we kill him?"

Facing the abruptly silent eerie town, many soldiers stood like they were confronting an enemy.

Su Huan slightly smiled, revealing two rows of sharp teeth. The pale patterns around his eyes subtly spread, resembling a demonic grin.

"Or do you mean to kill his whole family?"

The butler hesitated slightly, warning, "We are about to pass the three gates, every step must be flawless, otherwise the bride’s family will think we lack etiquette."

The wedding procession continued forward, Su Huan’s voice mild, "Useless things."

One couldn’t tell if these evil anomalies heard him, but they turned their backs and ignored him.

The major glanced sideways.

Su Huan turned his head, "Continue, where were we?"

The latter with a complex expression replied, "The chief of staff also messed up one process..."

"I remember."

The major didn’t know exactly what Su Huan remembered, he bit his teeth and said seriously, "The way to crack the evil anomalies is to find loopholes in the rules, no matter what happens later, do not say a word, we will cover you. Our 892 regiment will definitely get you out."

Su Huan’s gaze remained calm and noncommittal.

Following that, no thoughtless evil anomalies collided with the procession, and everyone smoothly arrived at a grand mansion. The vermilion gate was studded with sixty-three copper nails arranged in nine vertical and seven horizontal rows. The door alone was four meters tall, flanked by muscular, fierce-eyed stone lions, creating an oppressive atmosphere.

Before Su Huan could guess where the groom was, a red sedan chair appeared out of thin air in front of the procession, and the groom and others’ figures quietly emerged.

’Only rendering once needed?’

The train conductor blinked, and several tables along with a dozen female evil anomalies holding jars of wine appeared in front of the gate, and the previously empty alley was suddenly bustling with noise.

The drumming pairs at the front lined up on both sides, singing joyful songs while walking.

With each verse, the evil anomalies holding wine jars responded, like a duet of mountain songs.

Naturally, Su Huan and others became the forefront of the procession, as many invisible gazes settled on them, the mountain songs became louder, urging them to do something, yet the vermilion gate remained unopened.

Instead, quite a few faceless figures surrounded the groom, seemingly offering congratulations.

The sound of clattering arose, tables and chairs stacked to form a stepped high platform, red ceramic bowls lined upon it, with the female evil anomalies holding jars pouring wine, the rich aroma filling the street, coinciding with the sound of firecrackers echoing from somewhere, the crowd buzzing with cheer and joviality.

"It should be the Southwest Region’s gate-blocking wine custom. First camp, follow me!"

The major took a deep breath, ready to step forward, but found that Su Huan beside him was faster. He wanted to reach out and stop him, but Su Huan had already leaped four or five meters ahead.

The major quickened his pace, suddenly stopped by some power, shouting urgently, "Come back, come back, don’t do anything unnecessary!"

But Su Huan did not head towards the gate-blocking wine, instead, he approached the groom surrounded by others.

Before getting close, the butler-like evil anomaly angrily blocked Su Huan’s path.

"Presumptuous, you blind servant—"

His words were only half out when his head spun crazily like a top on his neck, and the dull sound dispersed like thunder.

"Quite sturdy."

The train conductor squeezed out a low chuckle through his teeth.

The entire exuberant wedding scene was abruptly silenced by this slap, cold and eerie.

It seemed as if every brick in the small town emanated malice towards them at this moment.

Everyone turned their eyes to Su Huan, and the major sternly shouted, "Everyone, at all costs, protect Su Huan, the company commander!"

Yet Su Huan ignored everything, nonchalantly crossing through the numerous NPC-like evil anomalies, walking up to the groom in red robes, imitating the faceless figures’ gestures, cupped his hands, and smilingly spoke.
