Chapter 699 - 570: You Really Are Something Else!

Cruiser FJ descended the mountain, Zhang Su fastened his seatbelt, leaned back in the passenger seat, and the leisurely car speed allowed him time to appreciate the scenery around him.

Although zombie corpses were scattered everywhere in the barren field, which really couldn’t be called beautiful, it didn’t stop him from enjoying the open wilderness. Even the clouds piled up in the sky couldn’t darken his mood.

"How come I never noticed before, it’s so much more comfortable out here than in the city."

Zhang Su mused. Before the outbreak of the disaster, he had been busy rushing around the city, wandering contentedly in the jungle of concrete and steel. But this time when he returned to the city, the empty city, devoid of people, made him feel crowded, an extremely discordant kind of illusion.

"There are no cars on the road, such a big road for you to drive on, don’t be nervous, take it slow."

Seeing Zheng Ziwen gripping the steering wheel tightly, his eyes fixed on the road ahead, Zhang Su offered some comfort.

"Mm, okay."

Zheng Ziwen responded simply, initially not relaxing from a single sentence, but soon he felt a rush of ease. He genuinely wasn’t as nervous, feeling surprised himself, privately sighing that his driving skills had improved.

"Turn right ahead."

Zhang Su casually pointed at the road, then looked out the window. The purpose of this trip was to capture zombies, and he gazed afar, searching diligently while pondering Qiu Hui’s various situations.

Driving on the highway, Zheng Ziwen didn’t even know the destination, controlled the speed at twenty or thirty and leisurely moved forward. Once slightly more skilled, he finally dared to glance at both sides. But this glance frightened him!

"Wow, over there, there’s a, a big pit!"

Zheng Ziwen stared dumbfounded at the distant abandoned field. Amid the dark sky, a black circular pit appeared abruptly on the ground, extremely conspicuous.

"Drive properly, will you!"

Watching the car veer toward the side of the road, Zhang Su reached over to steady the steering wheel, correcting the direction. He said, "That pit was left over from bombing zombies a few days ago. Keep heading north. I suppose nearby... huh? Turn left at that intersection ahead."

Zhang Su intended to say that there probably wouldn’t be zombies around here, but when he glanced toward Niuquanzi Town, he saw four zombies aimlessly wandering in circles in the wilderness.

This place is only five or six kilometers from Celestial Horse Island, and in a straight line, not even four kilometers. Now, hundreds of people are gathered there, yet they can’t sense the presence of humans, suggesting these zombies have lost their long-distance perception abilities.

Humans have varying abilities; zombies vary in strength too.

"Bombs, did I hear that right? Bombs can blast like that, impressive, impressive."

Zheng Ziwen nodded repeatedly, continually praising.

"What did you do in Qin City before?"

"Huh? Me?" Zheng Ziwen didn’t expect Zhang Su to ask suddenly, feeling a bit flustered, he said, "I, I didn’t do anything, no fixed job."

"Oh, a homeless wanderer."

Zhang Su commented casually.

"Uh...not exactly, my buddy works in funerals, sometimes he calls me to the funeral home to help with services and earn some living expenses."

Zheng Ziwen explained with a stiff face, then reduced the speed and steadily turned into the side road.

"Helping with services? Hey, isn’t that gig more popular in rural areas? Funeral homes should have their own people, right? Your buddy is impressive, still thinks of you, so what do you usually do, tell me."

Zhang Su suddenly showed interest. He thought Zheng Ziwen was a lazy bum who’d just mooch off others, but turns out he could earn money.

"The funeral home has its own people, but they’re expensive to hire, and the family wants something economical, so I help out, mostly keeping watch overnight, the biggest role is mourning, but there isn’t much of that; mostly it’s miscellaneous tasks, carrying wreaths, keeping watch, running errands in and out of the funeral home."

Zheng Ziwen briefly explained, reminiscing about the memories with a fond expression. Ghost stories in funeral homes were common, but no matter how terrifying, they were never as scary as the real world now.

"Being able to earn is already great... Hey, stop the car here."

Zhang Su didn’t want to disturb the zombies, so he called to stop the car about a kilometer away.

Honk!

But then...

Zheng Ziwen was flustered while parking and accidentally pressed the horn. The melodic horn sound immediately echoed across the fields.

Zhang Su’s hand, poised to open the door, froze. He looked at Zheng Ziwen with a "what the hell are you doing" face.

"Oops, no, sorry, I’m not very familiar with this..."

The horn had stopped, and Zheng Ziwen, extremely flustered, explained, unsure what to do next. He simply turned off the engine to silence the last of the noise, attempting to rectify the mistake.

"What the hell, you’re really abstract, why turn off the engine? If there’s danger, we’re supposed to run anytime. Start the car, start it!"

Zhang Su helplessly instructed.

Put-put-put.

The engine lightly purred to life again, Zheng Ziwen looked at Zhang Su with embarrassment, not knowing what to do next.

"Why are you looking at me, get out of the car, and prepare to deal with the zombies!"

Zhang Su glanced at the distant zombies, cursing at Zheng Ziwen. The horn’s sound successfully gained the attention of zombies a kilometer away, and four zombies began to sway toward the car. Without sensing blood food yet, their speed wasn’t fast.

"Oh, oh-oh!"

Zheng Ziwen didn’t dare to slack off, jumped out of the car swiftly, grasping his dagger tightly, feeling extremely nervous.

Zhang Su scanned around, the horn sound only attracted the distant four zombies, or rather, there were no freely roaming zombies within several kilometers, letting him relax.

"I came out this time to capture the zombies alive and bring them back. Later, you’ll be responsible for two of them; I’ll handle the others!"

"Huh?"

Zheng Ziwen was startled, and while preparing the equipment earlier, he thought they were going to catch wild animals, never expecting to capture zombies!

Images of the crazed zombies they encountered at dawn flashed in his mind, he blurted out, "I, I can’t...how do you catch them?"

"Catch them, bare-handed? Of course you use tools, like the riot fork I asked you to bring. As for handling two at once, use that clever little brain of yours, can you do it? You wouldn’t think your uncle brought you out for a sightseeing tour, would you?"

"Oh, oh."

Zheng Ziwen, hearing this, briskly took out the riot fork from the trunk. Since the rod was too long, it was dismantled into two sections, which he quickly assembled. Holding the over three-meter-long riot fork, not only didn’t he feel secure, but he worried about how to use it.

Zhang Su put on gloves and held the Dog Leg Military Saber, assigning tasks, "Later, hey, these four zombies’ clothes are almost completely worn out. You handle the two with bare arms, the remaining two are mine."

"Alright, okay...Do we have to wait, or can we actively engage?"

Zheng Ziwen looked at the zombies still hundreds of meters away, feeling the wait was agonizing.

"Actively engage?" Zhang Su glanced at Zheng Ziwen in surprise, thinking this guy is too much of a rookie, he shrugged. "I’m easy, whatever way you feel confident, do it. I’ll follow you!"

Zheng Ziwen grinned slightly, taking King Yama to catch zombies, truly surreal. He clenched his teeth, holding the dagger with one hand and gripping the riot fork with the other, stepping forward one step at a time.

Zhang Su watched Zheng Ziwen, who looked like a Macedonian phalanx warrior, couldn’t help but laugh. Can he really catch zombies?

More like feeding them!

But he followed behind Zheng Ziwen, saying nothing.
