Apocalypse: the Most Ruthless Person
Chapter 700 - 571: Who Told You to Kill?
The zombie staggered towards the two of them, Zheng Ziwen taking the lead as he advanced with Zhang Su, his grip on the riot fork causing his knuckles to whiten from exertion.
Zhang Su followed closely behind the highly concentrated Zheng Ziwen. Seeing him walking forward stupidly, he couldn’t hold back and reminded, "The zombies are attracted by the car horn; they haven’t seen us. Are you sure we’re just going to charge in like fools?"
"Ah, right!"
Zheng Ziwen came to a sudden realization, hastily circling to the side of the approaching zombies, drawing an arc to approach them.
This tactic isn’t wrong per se, but if that’s all there is to it, isn’t that a bit too elementary?
Zhang Su shook his head. He didn’t believe Ding Yong Country and others hadn’t taught Zheng Ziwen before. This guy was probably just accustomed to acting under orders, with much knowledge and common sense never sinking in.
In a team, there are always such players. They like to follow orders and are unwilling to think much on their own.
Zhang Su couldn’t be bothered to lecture; practical combat is a better teacher than anything else.
Ideally, if you approach a zombie silently from the side or rear, they won’t notice you until you’re within twenty or thirty meters. But after enhancement, the zombies’ sensitivity had clearly improved again.
When the distance was still seventy or eighty meters, the four zombies immediately slowed down their forward movement, then quickly stopped, turning around slowly.
Zhang Su mused that these creatures were not sensitive to long-range detection but still had no problem with close-range senses. It seemed that different organs were used for these types of detection.
"Something’s wrong, Brother Su, something’s not right."
Seeing the zombies turning to face them, Zheng Ziwen froze completely.
"They’ve spotted us, huh? What’s so strange about that?"
Just as Zhang Su finished speaking, he saw the four zombies complete their turn and start moving towards them. Their speed noticeably increased, though not yet at a sprinting pace.
"W-what do we do now, go in directly?"
Zheng Ziwen had never made decisions before, always following team orders, and he was bewildered at having to lead now.
"First mistake, you didn’t set any traps. Second mistake, you didn’t consider cover. If not for this, what else could we do? Run away?"
Zhang Su shook his head in slight exasperation. As expected, Ding Yong Country wasn’t exaggerating; this guy really was clueless.
Zheng Xinyu and Zhong Xiaoshan learned to set traps and lure zombies from the start. It’s an obvious step, but in a panic, some people just forget!
Howl, howwwwl!
"I, I..."
Zheng Ziwen was rendered speechless by Zhang Su’s words. The zombies in front had already noticed them, raising their arms and quickening their pace. Battle was imminent.
"Brother Zhang, Brother Zhang, where are you? I’m Old Duan. That Xiaoliu and Xiaoke, the two of them are in trouble!"
Just as Zhang Su stepped forward to confront the zombies, the walkie-talkie in his pocket blared out. The tone was serious, clearly suspicious!
"Don’t just stand there!"
Zhang Su had no idea what was happening over at Cui Leng Pavilion. He couldn’t afford to slack off here, couldn’t wait for the dithering Zheng Ziwen to take the lead, so he swiftly charged with blade in hand towards the zombies.
The enhanced zombies had increased speed, strength, reaction, and sensitivity. If there were cover, it wouldn’t be a problem, but fighting on the open plain, aiming to capture them alive, Zhang Su dared not to let his guard down, unleashing his attacks without reservation.
The four zombies had varied speeds. Zhang Su chose an awkward angle to charge at the fastest one. When he was still four or five meters away, he launched a flying kick.
Thud!
Howl, howl...
Unlike the agile Flying Wolf Gang’s Qi Dabin, the zombie did not dodge as Zhang Su’s big foot struck dead center of its chest, sending its dry body flying backward instantly.
Thud!
Just like playing billiards, the zombie that Zhang Su kicked flew and precisely hit another pursuing zombie, causing both to fall down, coincidentally tripping a third zombie in the process.
With one kick, he incapacitated three zombies. Though they could recover in a short time, this gap was enough for Zhang Su to deal with the last zombie.
Swish.
With the white mist enhancing his precision, Zhang Su’s control over his weapon was further refined. Dodging attacks, he swung his blade, effortlessly severing one of the zombie’s arms, then used his low stance to execute a sweeping kick, predictably knocking the zombie to the ground, where he quickly severed the other arm with another slash.
When cattle and horses are harnessed to power a generator, two legs are plenty!
The enhanced zombies were somewhat more agile, originally able to rise from the ground without difficulty. But losing both arms made this nearly impossible, leaving them to struggle on the ground with their two legs, reducing their mobility by a hundred!
"Ah, kill!"
Zheng Ziwen was momentarily stunned after seeing Zhang Su’s skillful kick, but when he noticed the zombie struggling to get up from the ground, he snapped back to reality and charged forward with a loud shout.
"Die!"
Zheng Ziwen leaped high, resembling a crow hitching a ride on a plane, landing precisely on the zombie and then stabbed it to death with a few thrusts.
The whole process was extremely rough, lacking any elegance. If Zhang Su’s combat was filled with a violent aesthetic that made one feel the harmony of body and strength, then Zheng Ziwen’s slaughter was like an abstract distortion, akin to the stubbornness of an undeveloped cerebellum.
"No, brother, we are here to capture it alive, damn it, who told you to kill it..."
Zhang Su looked at the thoroughly dead zombie, unable to stop the corner of his mouth from twitching.
No time to dwell on it, the other two had already staggered to their feet by this time. They paid no mind to their comrade’s death, nor did they fear in the least, only driven by the most primal desire as they raised their arms and continued to attack the closest Zheng Ziwen.
"Ah, this... hey!"
Seeing two zombies pounce at him simultaneously, Zheng Ziwen panicked and mimicked Zhang Su’s style with a kick.
Can’t say it was useless; the kicked zombie indeed retreated a few steps, but it was far from being sent flying, while the other zombie continued to pursue Zheng Ziwen relentlessly.
He finally remembered the riot fork in his hand, with a "hey" sound, he thrust the riot fork forward, stubbornly holding off the charging zombie. This time he reacted quickly, rushing to press the buckle button, and with a snap, the iron ring tightly clamped the zombie.
Howl... howl...
The zombie, immobilized by the riot fork, let out a series of angry growls, arms desperately clawing forward.
"Hey, haha, Brother Su, I did it, succeed..."
Swish!
Just as Zheng Ziwen joyfully looked toward Zhang Su, a cold gleam flashed before his eyes. The blade sliced down no more than twenty or thirty centimeters away, followed by a puff sound as a zombie arm flew up in his peripheral vision.
He then realized that the zombie he had kicked away had somehow already made it back, likely unnoticed due to his concentration on subduing the other with the riot fork.
Thud!
Zhang Su delivered a kick, and the one-armed zombie staggered backward, three steps, four steps, and finally, due to loss of balance, plopped down on the ground. Without pause, he pursued and struck again, as if the ground bore not a zombie, but a scarecrow!
The zombie’s lower legs and arms were successively severed, its dried-out body collapsed on the ground, and probably having never consumed blood, its blackened, shriveled tongue hung out, looking particularly horrifying.
This zombie was meant for Zhang Su’s experiments, requiring further restriction of its mobility.
Zheng Ziwen gripped the riot fork tightly with both hands, astonished by Zhang Su’s maneuvers, feeling utterly inadequate. Enraged by the zombie’s frenzied struggle, he burned with anger.
"Ah!!"
With a shout, he pushed the riot fork forward, channeling his fury onto the zombie, forcing it onto the ground.
"Ah, Sibaya! Hahaha..."
Seeing the zombie on the ground thrashing its arms but unable to move, Zheng Ziwen felt greatly satisfied, both cursing and laughing, immensely excited.
Zhang Su walked past Zheng Ziwen, glancing at him like a fool, raised his hand, and severed the zombie’s arms with a swing of his knife, then released the clamp.
Watching Zhang Su’s fluid movements, Zheng Ziwen was filled with envy, clutching his riot fork like a neighborhood’s top security guard, feeling quite deflated.
"What are you standing there staring for? Go get the rope and sacks, tie up these zombies and bring them back!"
Zhang Su instructed, then, feeling it wasn’t secure enough, recalled the battle against the gaseous zombie. He kicked the zombie over, then delivered another cut, precisely removing the zombie’s lower jaw.
With its arms gone and now its jaw as well, pretty much eliminating all danger sources.
After finishing all that work, Zhang Su sheathed his knife and eagerly took out his walkie-talkie.
"Hey, hey, Old Duan, what’s the situation? Speak in detail!"
Soon, a reply came from the other side, not as stern as before but still very solemn: "Brother Zhang, once you’re done, hurry back. Xiaoliu and Xiaoke both... well, I’ll tell you when you get back."
Zhang Su didn’t respond, simply put away the walkie-talkie. The frequency could be heard by many, and he knew Duan Wuhu had things he couldn’t say openly. Seeing Zheng Ziwen approaching slowly with ropes and sacks, he urged, "Hurry up, get moving!"
"Okay, okay!"
As it turned out, Zheng Ziwen’s skills in menial tasks were decent, quickly "packing" up the three zombies. Although they had no jaws and couldn’t bite, he still covered their heads with sacks, securing them thoroughly.
