Apocalypse: the Most Ruthless Person
Chapter 698 - 569: Stop Messing Around!
Ding Yong Country glared at Zheng Ziwen and said, "I told you to go, so just go. Why so much nonsense!"
"We, we’re not moving beds here?"
"I can handle this small task myself. Go quickly, be smart, and don’t make people dislike you! Boss Zhang, you can just order this guy around; even if the car breaks down, he can push it back!"
Ding Yong Country gave Zheng Ziwen a push and then nodded seriously at Zhang Su, not as if he were joking.
Zheng Ziwen looked at his old uncle with an exaggerated expression; does he even see me as a person?
"Old Ding, what I’m going out for concerns zombies, not for fun. Ziwen is intact now, but I can’t guarantee he won’t lose an arm or a leg when we return, so be mentally prepared."
Zhang Su felt it was necessary to inform Ding Yong Country, lest something actually happen and it become awkward.
"Involving zombies is even better, take him out for some practice. In your young people’s words, he’s too inexperienced. If he really screws up, so be it."
Ding Yong Country waved his hand as he turned towards the bedframe, speaking lightly. But he knew, following King Yama, such serious incidents wouldn’t occur.
"Inexperienced? Damn joke... I, Uncle Zhang, take me along, I’ll do whatever you say!"
Zheng Ziwen’s stubbornness flared up; he clenched his fists looking at Zhang Su, but within half a second, he couldn’t meet his eyes and quickly looked elsewhere, his expression exaggerated and panicked.
"Since your old uncle is okay with it, let’s go then."
Zhang Su didn’t waffle either. Upon first meeting, Zheng Ziwen left him with a bad impression, but gradually, he didn’t find him so annoying. The kid just seemed a bit naive, not bad-hearted.
Especially after comparing him to Wang Zhetao, he seemed kind of foolishly simple.
"Don’t call me uncle, just call me Brother Su like the others."
As they walked toward the parking lot, Zhang Su said.
"Alright, okay, Brother Su."
Zheng Ziwen nodded stiffly.
"Where’s your weapon? What do you usually use to fight zombies, not just your fists, I hope?"
Zhang Su turned to look at Zheng Ziwen.
"Use, use this..."
Clang.
Zheng Ziwen pulled out a dagger from his waist, but due to excessive nervousness, it dropped to the ground, making the situation even more awkward.
There was no helping it; the whole way, people were greeting Zhang Su and looking at him with curious eyes, making him feel uneasy.
Including a group standing in the corner, pairs of eyes were all on him...
"It’s clearly your old uncle’s craftsmanship, but it’s a bit dull now, needs sharpening!"
Zhang Su skillfully stepped on the dagger, flicked it with his toe, and smoothly caught it in his hand, examining it before handing it back to Zheng Ziwen.
"Sharpened it some time ago, but haven’t had time recently..."
Zheng Ziwen awkwardly took the dagger back and quickly sheathed it.
"Old Jia, catch." Zhang Su tossed half a pack of cigarettes to Jia Shiqin, who was guarding the fire-breathing zombie crate.
Jia Shiqin caught the cigarette pack and smiled, "Brother Zhang, what are you busy with, need any help?"
"No, just taking him out for a stroll. You stay put."
"Hold on, Brother Zhang!"
Seeing Zhang Su about to leave, Jia Shiqin hurriedly took a couple of steps forward and signaled to the side, "Could I have a word?"
"See that Land Cruiser FJ over there? Wait for me there."
Zhang Su sent Zheng Ziwen away, then turned to Jia Shiqin, "What’s up, Old Jia?"
"Here’s the thing... We’re out of zombies to power the generator, and there aren’t any zombies in camp that can run. What do you think?"
Jia Shiqin rubbed his hands somewhat awkwardly.
The generator was crucial for Celestial Horse Island’s electricity supply. With the ox and horse zombies gone and the recent overcast skies, the island’s energy reserves were critically low.
"Overlooked!"
Zhang Su slapped his forehead; he could see everything clearly, but hadn’t noticed that nearly everyone was without lights...
"Alright, I’ll take care of the zombies. Don’t worry about it."
Zhang Su patted Jia Shiqin’s shoulder, saying, "But in the future, we’ll need to build more generators like this. You know the population issue; we need to keep up with energy demands."
Initially, the plan was to head to the Development Zone and retrieve some thermal power equipment, but plans changed unexpectedly, and they’d have to be self-sufficient in the end.
"That’s easy. I’ve talked to Brother Yu, and among the newcomers, there are related professionals who can help when the time comes!"
Jia Shiqin worked diligently, never cutting corners in battle, but rarely spoke around the camp, making his presence quite low, yet he never forgot his duties.
"Then it’s settled. Thank you for your hard work, I’m off."
With that, Zhang Su headed towards the Land Cruiser FJ.
"Hey, don’t just stand there, go get some stuff ready."
Since they were going to catch zombies, they’d definitely need some tools. Zhang Su called out to Zheng Ziwen, and together they gathered an enhanced explosion-proof fork, some hemp ropes, and several sacks from the camp.
During this time, whatever Zhang Su asked Zheng Ziwen to take, he took, not asking questions, just working quietly.
"Can you drive?"
After Zheng Ziwen put the items into the trunk, Zhang Su pointed to the driver’s seat and asked.
"I can, but I haven’t driven much."
Zheng Ziwen wasn’t boasting; he had a driver’s license but hardly touched a four-wheeled vehicle after driving school.
"As long as you can, I’ll navigate, you drive."
Saying that, Zhang Su leisurely settled in the passenger seat, enjoying the rare treat of having a little helper to boss around.
Many people watched as the Land Cruiser FJ slowly left the camp, not thinking much of it. On Celestial Horse Island, Zhang Su didn’t have to explain his actions to anyone, but some still had thoughts.
"Dad, Brother Zhang took that guy who’s with Old Ding and drove off."
Wang Zhetao whispered lowly in Wang Guangjun’s ear.
"Oh, then he must have something to attend to."
Wang Guangjun answered coolly, not picking up on his son’s point.
"No, Dad, how can you be so calm!"
Wang Zhetao was frustrated, leaning closer, "That Uncle Ding and Brother Zhang are acquaintances. You’re also an acquaintance. Look, they’re staying in the courtyard, and that must be his kid or some relative. They’re all going out with Brother Zhang to work, and then look at us, isn’t this not right?"
"Xiaowang!"
Before Wang Guangjun could speak, Hu Yong’an responded first, nudging Wang Zhetao’s leg with his toe, saying meaningfully, "Listen to your Uncle Hu, go with the flow, don’t stir the pot!"
Wang Guangjun, who couldn’t hear Hu Yong’an’s words, spoke up on Wang Zhetao’s other side, "What’s been on your mind every day, kid? Has school made you stupid? Whatever Brother Zhang arranges is his business. What are you fussing about? We’ve taken good care of you, haven’t we?"
"No..."
Wang Zhetao hadn’t expected to be criticized from both sides and felt deflated. "I’m just thinking of everyone, fine, fine, I won’t say... anything!"
While speaking, he suddenly saw a girl passing by in the distance, wearing a light blue down jacket and a bobble hat. Her cheeks were rosy, and he was momentarily stunned.
It had been months since he’d seen such a youthful, cute girl, not counting the alluring older sisters of Soul-Devouring Cave...
Wang Zhetao’s gaze followed the girl as she chatted and laughed with the uncle guarding the abandoned cargo crate, then headed to the guesthouse, resembling a beautiful butterfly dancing amid the snowy landscape, both beautiful and full of vitality.
