Chapter 85: Centipedes

"Let’s go down that path. You can have a rest and be on a vehicle instead of trekking once we reach the foot of the hill." Alex pointed at a path that seemed to be the easiest to go down the hill.

The others who were still panting from exhaustion nodded their heads at him.

They wanted to get out of the woods as soon as they could.

Alex took the lead and they started to move down the path towards the foot of the hill.

However, when they walked about fifty meters, he sensed something moving underground and the ground shook without any warning.

Alex turned around to have a look at the direction where the tremors from the ground were the strongest.

The ground was moving with a pile of soil getting bigger and bigger.

There was something coming out from it.

Alex quickly got near where the pile of soil was and a slit appeared on top of the pile of soil.

The slit opened up into a portal and bubbles flew out from the portal.

It didn’t take too long for something to happen.

Boom!

Explosions occurred when the mutated beasts from under the ground came out from the pile of soil and touched the bubbles.

It was a centipede that was as big as Alex in size.

The explosion blew the head of the centipede into pieces and it wriggled on the ground with half of its body exposed for a few moments before lying motionless.

But it was not the only one. ℴℴ𝘮

The ground continued to move and many more piles of soil appeared all around him.

There were at least a hundred of them.

Alex used his storage portal and he unleashed as many bubbles as he could above the piles of soil.

Boom!

The centipedes that appeared caused the bubbles to explode when they touched the bubbles.

But it wasn’t enough to get rid of all the centipedes.

The centipedes that got out from the pile of soil safely lunged at the same time towards Alex.

Fortunately, when they got near Alex, a portal had appeared in front of him and pillars of fire came out from the portal.

The pillars of fire moved around him, and they turned the centipedes that were near him into charred and hardened centipedes in an instant.

Alex unleashed more pillars of fire with his other two portals and they ravaged through the numerous centipedes that were crawling out from the ground.

He frowned and thought that it might never stop with how the centipedes were coming out from the ground non-stop.

However, that was not all there was to it.

"Get away from me!"

"Help!"

"Die, you son of a bitch!"

He heard shouts and gunshots coming from his side where Patricia and the others were.

Patricia was using her ability, making the grass grow bigger and barricading herself and those near her within.

At the same time, Alice was using her ability to liquefy the ground and ’drown’ the centipedes in the liquefied soil.

Other students were opening fire at the centipedes with their automatic rifles but it took many rounds to break the hard shell of the centipedes before they could hurt them.

Alex knew that the students would get hurt very soon if he didn’t do something quick.

He changed his tactic and he unleashed the lightning web at the areas where the centipedes were crawling out from.

Crackle.

The cracking sounds could be heard and the surroundings were turned as bright as day when the lightning webs enveloped the whole area of around twenty square meters, descending down onto the ground like a blanket that was slowly covering it.

But these lightning webs were pure destruction instead of giving comfort.

Boom!

The lightning webs struck into the ground and it caused an explosion so huge that it shook the ground.

Trees toppled and a huge crater was created.

And within the crater, there was a huge dark pile of centipedes that were turned into charred bodies.

After dealing with these centipedes that were coming for him, he turned around and tried to help the other students.

However, when he did so, the pile of centipede bodies in the crater moved, and the soil dropped further and deeper into the ground, bringing the pile of centipede bodies with it.

The ground shook again, and a huge figure came out from within the crater.

It was an even larger centipede than the ones before.

This mutated centipede wasn’t fully out of the ground and it was already at least five meters tall and its body was over a meter wide.

Alex knew it was much more advantageous for him to fight against the centipede with half of its body still underground.

So he aimed his hands at the mutated centipede’s head.

Bam.

Lightning strikes shot at the mutated centipede and explosions ensued.

But the centipede wriggled around with only a portion of the hard shell on its head being chipped off by the lightning strikes.

While it thrashed around in pain, the mutated centipede started spewing green liquid into the surroundings.

When the green liquid touched something, smoke rose and it was dissolved into a mangled mass in an instant.

Alex quickly used his storage portal to protect himself from the green liquid.

And it worked as always.

The mutated centipede stopped and its body started to rattle uncontrollably.

Gusts of wind started to appear out of nowhere.

Alex felt the winds coming at him from the side and he quickly used another storage portal to absorb the wind blades that came at him.

Seeing how its attacks on him didn’t work, the mutated centipede recoiled its head and slammed it down in the next moment.

This time, huge wind blades came at Alex with tremendous speed.

But when the huge wind blades got near, a slit appeared in front of Alex as usual.

The slit opened up into a portal and the huge wind blades were absorbed by it without surprise.

But the mutated centipede was waiting for this, and it extended its body forward and lunged at Alex with its huge fangs from above.
