Chapter 86: Tough Battle

Boom!

The huge mutated centipede slammed onto the ground where Alex was standing.

Its fangs plunged into the ground sending the soil flying up into the air.

Everyone who saw it gasped.

There was no way that Alex could be unharmed from what had happened.

But they were relieved that they got it wrong in the next moment.

Alex had activated his Shadow Plane ability and moved away from where he was.

When he appeared back in his normal form again, he was at the side of the mutated centipede.

The mutated centipede tried to turn its long body around to face Alex.

Thud.

A storage portal appeared above it and huge metallic blocks descended down from the portal and they landed onto the body of the mutated centipede.

The huge metallic blocks couldn’t crush through the hard shell of the mutated centipede but their weight was enough to pin it onto the ground.

Struggling to break free, the mutated centipede rattled its body again.

Gusts of wind blew and wind blades appeared.

Whoosh.

They shot at Alex from different directions in the next moment.

Alex absorbed the wind blades with his storage portals and when the wind blades that couldn’t be absorbed by them got near him, he disappeared out of sight.

He turned into a speck of shadow and appeared not too far away from where he was.

Alex wasted no time and he unleashed the pillars of lightning from the portal that was above the mutated centipede.

Splatter.

The pillars of lightning were finally able to ravage through the hard shell and create havoc on the innards of the mutated centipede.

Even the huge metallic blocks that were pinning the mutated centipede down were affected and they started to melt into hot molten iron.

Sizzle.

The hot molten iron started to burn and seep into the wounds of the mutated centipede.

This caused the mutated centipede to thrash around even more.

But it was only able to do so for a few moments.

The pillars of lightning ravaged through its body and tore it apart from the remaining part of its body that was still in the ground.

Green liquid oozed out from its wound and it started to dissolve the soil.

Then, the mutated centipede stopped moving.

Alex quickly turned his attention to the other students next.

They were still dealing with the centipedes that were swarming at them.

He frowned as he couldn’t use his abilities on the centipedes since they were too close to the students.

Alex glanced around and saw Alice, who was with Teresa and her team.

He ran over and lunged at the centipedes that were getting close to Alice and the rest.

Thud.

With a punch, he created a hole in the body of the centipede that was in front of him.

And he moved on to the next one, ripping it apart with his hands.

Alex’s physique as an SSS Level Awakened was much more powerful now than it was after killing off so many of the mutated beasts.

Several centipedes stopped their advance on Alice and they turned around at him.

They lunged but Alex was even faster than they were.

He took out one with a straight jab at its body and the other with a side kick, ripping out a chunk of their bodies with his fist and kick.

After doing so, he grabbed onto one of the centipedes’ bodies and he swung it around, using the body of the centipede to knock the other centipedes away.

"They are retreating."

"Look, we are safe now!"

"Help me."

Alex ripped the body of the centipede he had in his hands apart and threw it on the ground.

The other centipedes were retreating and getting away from him and the other students.

These centipedes must have sensed the demise of the huge mutated centipede and decided that it was time to run away from him.

Alex inhaled and gave out a sigh.

The journey to the hydroelectric dam might be tougher than he had expected.

As he was in his thoughts, a familiar sound erupted in his mind.

[Ding!]

[Congratulations to Host for killing off 280 enemies.]

It was a windfall with the amount of rewards he had gotten, but this was not the time to be focused on this.

"Everyone alright?" Alex glanced around and asked.

Thankfully, Patricia, Alice, and Teresa with her research team were unharmed except for some minor injuries.

Many of the students were also hurt but it was nothing too serious, with most of them having cut wounds on their arms and legs.

He got some of the bandages, antiseptic wipes and other first aid materials he had out from his storage space.

Those medical students who were in his group took them and got to work.

He also took out bottles of water for everyone to have a drink.

On and off he also heard some commotion from the other side of the hill.

And when he asked, Riley, Terry, and Brian were fortunately able to take care of the mutated beasts.

Alex and his group continued on their way down the path.

It was getting brighter as the sun started rising.

And with the amber glow from the sun turning the woods from being dark and hostile into something that was amber and warm, everyone felt much better than they had.

The relatively uneventful journey down the path also helped with it.

Finally, they reached the foot of the hill and Alex glanced back at the hill.

He could see Riley, Terry and Brian leading their groups coming down the same path.

However, he knew that it was not over yet.

They had to get as far away as possible from where they were.
