Chapter 84: Hard Battle

Alex decided to change his strategy.

Storage portals appeared right behind the mutated ape and small bubbles flew out from the portals.

Boom!

When the small bubbles struck the branches of the trees, explosions ensued and the sounds of explosions could be heard.

GEE!

The mutated ape gave out a loud shriek and it tried to jump off onto the next tree that was not too far away.

But when it tried to do so, explosions could be heard beside it.

The sudden sounds of explosions being so near startled it for a moment.

Then, a bright flash lit up the darkness from the ground, and the crackling sounds of lightning could be heard next.

Alex had taken advantage of the startle and he unleashed his lightning strikes at the mutated ape.

GEE!

The mutated ape gave out another loud shriek and a two-meter-thick ice wall was formed in front of it.

When the lightning strikes hit the ice wall, it blew it into smithereens.

But that wasn’t all.

The impact from the explosion when the lightning strikes hit made the mutated ape drop from the tree.

Thud.

When it landed, it snarled its fangs at Alex.

The mutated ape swung its arms wildly non-stop at him.

Whoosh.

Icicles appeared from its hands and they flew at Alex with tremendous speed.

A portal opened up in front of Alex and it absorbed the icicles that were coming at him.

Smack!

When the mutated beast saw what happened, it stopped what it was doing, and clapped its hands together.

Two blocks of ice appeared on the sides of Alex and they came at him at the same time, trying to crush him in between.

Alex quickly raised his arms and pointed his palms at the blocks of ice.

Boom.

Explosions could be heard and the ground shook when the lightning strikes hit the blocks of ice.

But while this was going on, the mutated ape gave out a loud shriek and it tried to lunge at Alex before he could do anything else.

However, when it got close to him, Alex disappeared out of sight.

The spot where Alex was was now empty.

GEE!

Feeling that it was being played like a fool by Alex, it gave out another shriek and it glanced around trying to see where Alex was.

Alex had turned into a speck of shadow and he moved to the back of the mutated ape.

He turned back into his normal form again and a slit appeared at the back of the mutated ape.

The mutated ape sensed his presence and it tried to turn around.

But it was too late.

The slit opened up into a portal and pillars of lightning came out from the portal.

Using its ability, the mutated ape tried to protect itself with an ice wall.

Crack!

This time, the ice wall cracked and was decimated by the pillars of lightning but they didn’t stop.

The pillars of lightning moved towards the mutated ape in different directions and they surrounded it.

No matter how hard the mutated ape tried to use its ability and protect itself, the ice walls that it created were no match for the pillars of lightning.

They crushed through the ice walls with ease and they finally hit the body of the mutated ape in an instant.

Splatter.

The pillars of lightning ripped the mutated ape apart and the flesh, blood and innards of the mutated ape were instantly turned into ashes by the pillars of lightning.

And after a few moments, what was left of the mutated ape was a charred mass that was badly messed up.

Its form was now barely recognizable with its head and parts of its body gone.

Alex frowned and thought about the encounter with the mutated ape.

It was much more powerful than a Stage II mutated beast but it didn’t have any ability other than being an Ice Wielder.

Its ice wielding powers were definitely much more than Stage II mutated beasts with its icicles and ice blocks coupled with its speed and strength.

He figured that it was possible that it was a Stage III mutated beast, but with an ability that was much more powerful than the other Stage II mutated beasts.

As he thought about this, a familiar sound erupted in his mind.

[Ding!]

[Congratulations to Host for killing off 1 enemy.]

[Dispensing rewards now:]

[10x bottles of water.]

[All items are stored in your storage space now.]

[Current status: 1/300]

[Day 1 of 3 for SSS Echo Resonant Ability.]

Alex saw the number of kills but he wasn’t too worried about it for now.

There was still a long way to go until the third day.

He glanced back at the others to check on them and they were looking at him in awe.

For the students that were with him all along, they couldn’t help but be even more impressed with what he was able to do.

They’ve certainly made the right decision to stick around with him, they thought.

Even Alice was able to recognize how much more powerful he had gotten.

He shrugged his shoulders at them and said, "We better move before the soldiers arrive."

The others nodded their heads and gave out a sigh.

Buzz.

His walkie talkie buzzed and Riley’s voice could be heard, "I heard some explosions in your direction, everything fine over there?"

Alex pressed on the button of the walkie talkie and replied, "Yeah. It’s fine.

"The rest of you better stay alert.

"This place is filled with mutated beasts so do be careful.

"Continue to move and let me know if you need help."

Buzz.

The walkie talkie gave out another buzz before it turned silent again.

Alex led his group further up the hill and he stopped when he finally reached the top of the hill.

In the distance, he could see the path that was at the foot of the hill and he gave out a sigh of relief.

They were halfway there to the path.

It boosted everyone’s morale for a bit since they were getting tired from trekking up the hill at a non-stop pace.
