Meanwhile a few moments earlier.

Lieutenant Lee and his team had reached the school of Bio-science and were getting ready to storm into the research lab.

The four of them were near the entrance to it under the cover of the dark.

He turned to Sergeant Simon and nodded his head at him.

Sergeant Simon acknowledged it with a nod and he walked over to the edge of the building where the floor-to-ceiling windows had been shattered.

A dark glow appeared out of his body and it engulfed him.

Then, wings made up of the same dark glow extended out from his back.

The wings flapped a few times and gusts of wind blew the dust from the ground up into the air.

Sergeant Simon stepped forward and leapt off the edge of the building.

He descended and went out of sight before appearing again, with the dark wings flapping and helping him fly.

Now that he was airborne, he flew towards the barricaded windows of the research lab and he peered through the opening with his enhanced vision from his ability.

Amidst the small opening, he could vaguely see four men in white coats with surgical masks on their faces.

These must be the researchers, he thought.

He flew back to where he leapt off earlier and gave a thumbs up to Lieutenant Lee and the rest.

Lieutenant Lee waved his hands and they moved towards the entrance of the research lab while Sergeant Simon flew back to the barricaded window.

Once they got to the entrance of the research lab, Corporal Lex placed his hands onto the ground.

Strands of glowing threads came out from his fingers.

His buddy Corporal Rock stood next to him, and his upper body turned into solid rock.

Lieutenant Lee tried to sense where Alex and his friends were, but before he could do so, explosions could be heard in the distance.

"We are ambushed! Taking hits right now!" Panicked voices came into the earbuds of Lieutenant Lee and he knew that they couldn’t wait anymore.

"Do it, now!" Lieutenant Lee spoke into his earbuds and both Sergeant Simon and Corporal Lex took action.

Sergeant Simon raised his hands and pointed his palm at the barricades that were blocking his way.

Whoosh.

Dark glowing feathers came out from his palms and they pelted through the barricades.

At the same time, Corporal Lex unleashed his glowing threads through the small openings of the research lab’s entrance to try and control whoever was inside.

"What the hell?!" Corporal Lex frowned and said when he felt his glowing threads gone.

But there wasn’t time to think anymore.

Sergeant Simon had barged through the window of the research lab and they had to cover him somehow.

Corporal Rock had no choice but to charge at the research lab entrance with his shoulder.

Thud.

He rammed through the research lab entrance at the same time as Sergeant Simon.

But they were welcomed by small bubbles that filled their surroundings.

The bubbles then flew at them.

Boom!

Explosions ensued when the bubbles touched onto the bodies of Sergeant Simon and Corporal Rock.

Both of them were blown away from where they were immediately.

"Rock!" Corporal Lex shouted and he extended his hands at Alex and his friends at the same time.

Strands of the glowing threads came towards Alex and his friends.

As the glowing threads got closer, a slit appeared out of nowhere and it opened up into a portal.

When the glowing threads touched onto the glowing threads, they got absorbed into the storage portal immediately.

Corporal Lex cursed and tried to unleash his glowing threads at Alex and his friends again.

However, he didn’t have the chance to do so anymore.

Another portal had appeared above the head of Corporal Lex and the crackling sounds of lightning could be heard.

Lieutenant Lee knew what it meant as an SS Level Lightning Wielder.

He raised his hand and pointed at the portal.

Bam!

When the lightning strikes descended from the portal, he quickly unleashed bolts of lightning strikes at it.

The lightning strikes hit onto each other and a torrent of explosions ensued.

However, the lightning strikes unleashed by Lieutenant Lee weren’t enough to stop the lightning strikes from Alex.

They overpowered his and he had a realization.

Lieutenant Lee knew that they were up against an SSS Level Awakened.

His hunch earlier had come back to haunt him now.

Whoever it was inside the research lab was ready for him and his team all along.

There was an ambush set up along the path towards the school of Bio-science and Alex was also waiting for him at the same time.

He was obviously outplayed, but it was too late to do anything else but fight at the moment.

Splatter!

The lightning strikes had struck onto Corporal Lex and it blew a huge chunk of his left shoulder and chest off.

Corporal Lex rolled on the ground and groaned in pain.

Sergeant Simon and Corporal Rock weren’t faring any better.

They too were seriously injured by Riley’s bubbles and they were fighting desperately against Terry and Brian at the moment.

Thud.

Huge metallic blocks were hurled onto Corporal Rock, pinning him onto the ground.

And on the other end, Brian had unleashed his pillars of fire at Sergeant Simon.

The pillars of blue fire could barely burn through the dark glow that engulfed the body of Sergeant Simon, and Sergeant Simon tried to retaliate.

Raising his hands, he aimed at Brian, but when he did so, small bubbles appeared and flew at him.

Riley had joined the fray to help Brian out, leaving Alex to deal with Lieutenant Lee.

Alex took a glance at Corporal Lex, who was still rolling on the ground.

Lieutenant Lee quickly tried to stop him and he unleashed a lightning strike at him.

However, a slit appeared in front of Alex and opened up into a portal.

The lightning strikes got absorbed into the portal and left no trace of them other than the burnt trail on the ground.

Lieutenant Lee gasped and felt utter helplessness against another Awakened for the first time.
