Chapter 77: Ambush

"And... Here we are." Riley said when he stopped the car in the car park slot.

He turned off the engine and got out of it together with Alex and the others.

Nearby, there was a team of students that was on patrol, and they came over to check on what had happened with the engine noise earlier.

The patrol team was relieved when they saw who it was.

"Welcome back, you guys." One of the students on the patrol team said and the others nodded at Alex and his friends.

Alex acknowledged them with a nod but he didn’t have time for small talk.

He turned and walked towards the dorm building.

Along the way, he saw the patrol teams and those who were in the observation point doing their job.

They might be able to help but he doubted that it would be a great idea for them to go up against trained professionals from the army.

If he could, he would avoid the need for the students to engage with them.

But it would be wishful thinking.

He must get them ready for it.

Moving everyone out would be an option but it might be even worse without a properly planned route and organization.

They would have a better chance at it with their familiarity of the campus and what they had already built.

When Alex got back to the dorm building, he asked to meet with Eddy, Lin, David and Patricia immediately.

Patricia wanted to let him see the result of her experiment but preparing for the attack from the Elite Awakened Special Ops Unit was a much higher priority at the moment.

Alex briefed them on what he saw at the quarantine area and their faces turned into deep frowns.

"So, what do we do next?" Eddy said while glancing over at Alex.

Alex lowered his head and thought about giving the students the firearms he had gotten from the ammunition depot earlier but he decided not to, immediately.

It might be deadlier for the students who didn’t have any experience with the grenades, rockets and missiles.

He wasn’t too sure how to use them himself.

Most likely he could put them in strategic areas and let those Awakened with the ability to cause an explosion make use of them if possible.

That was one thing he could do and the other option would be making use of the fact that the main priority for the Elite Awakened Special Ops Unit was to capture the researchers.

Alex thought about it and he decided to combine the two ideas together.

He glanced at Eddy and said, "Do not let the patrol team or those at the observation point engage when they spot the soldiers.

"We will plant explosives, laying ambush all along the path to the school of Bio-science.

"Let the patrol team and those in the observation points take out as many of them as they can, and it’s fine to allow the soldiers to advance to their objective.

"I will be there waiting for them with my friends.

"As for the rest of you in the dorm building, try and defend it if you can.

"If not, arrange for a place to escape to if you are not able to do so."

He took out a piece of paper and drew a rough map of the campus and jotted down the areas where he would place the explosives.

Then, he drew the possible route of escape if everything he planned failed.

There was the route which they cleared to the Halmart and it would be a great candidate for their escape meetup area.

Eddy and the others nodded their heads and gave out a long sigh.

Things were just getting better and they didn’t want it to go away so soon.

Given a choice, they would rather stick with Alex than be captured and used as test subjects for who knows what experiments.

All of them glanced at the map and said silently to themselves that they would not let it happen to them.

Brian pointed at the map where the school of Bio-science was and asked, "What about Teresa and the other researchers?"

"That is what we are going to do next." Alex shrugged and said, "We will bring them over here while we take their place."

"Some role play, huh." Terry said and Alex with Brian and Riley rolled their eyes at him.

"Well, if you put it that way, yes." Alex shook his head and glanced back at Eddy.

"We will go and put the explosives for the ambush now.

"I need Lin to come along with us to help us plant the explosives.

"You and the others can start to get everyone else ready but do it quickly.

"I’m not sure how much time we have left before they arrive."

Eddy and the others nodded at him and they got to work.

Meanwhile, Alex and his friends left the dorm building.

He led them to the places he had marked on the map to place the explosives.

Making use of Lin’s ability, he let Lin create holes in the ground along the path to the school of Bio-science.

After these holes were created, he put in whatever he could and closed these holes up.

The Awakened with Fire Wielder or any other ability that could ignite them would trigger an explosion when the soldiers got near to these points.

Finally, after they were done with the explosives, they arrived at the school of Bio-science.

Alex together with his friends and Lin went up to the lab where Teresa and the others were in.

"What happened? Why are you here at such a late hour?" Alice was surprised to see him and asked.

Alex shrugged and said, "I don’t have time to explain it to you.

"What you need to know is that you need to move now."

"Move?" Teresa, who had woken up after hearing their conversation, came over with sleepy eyes and asked.

"Yes, move. That’s why I would need your help in letting me know how I can keep the machines safe."

Teresa turned around at the machines that were running and frowned.
