Apocalypse: My SSS Ability Changes Every Few Days
Chapter 76: Delay
Alex left the briefing and headed towards the area that was the most heavily guarded.
There were tanks, trucks, and even attack helicopters parked in the open area and behind them there were a few warehouses.
He sneaked along the shadows that were cast by the concertina wires onto the ground and reached the warehouses within a few moments.
Once he got into one of the warehouses, it was what he had expected.
There were stacks of ammunition that were for different firearms.
He ignored the ammunition for small-caliber weapons like the 5.56 rounds and focused on the much more destructive rounds instead.
Using his storage portal, he stored the grenades, rockets, and missiles into his storage space while keeping the containing boxes for all of these rounds intact.
No one would suspect a thing unless they opened the containers.
After he was done with the warehouse that he was currently in, he moved onto the next one.
The same thing happened for the other warehouses.
But he wasn’t done yet after he cleared all of them.
He had his eyes on the tanks, trucks, and attack helicopters next.
Alex waited for the right moment before he got into the open area where they were parked.
He used his storage portals and stored the engines of all the different types of vehicles into his storage space.
That should buy him some time and delay the mission of General Xavier.
It was the best he could come up with at the moment.
Alex could only hope that the replacements for the missing ammunition and engines of the vehicles wouldn’t come so quickly.
He rapidly finished up all of the vehicles and he headed for the area where the devices and injections that were written on the documents he had read earlier in the room.
Along the way there, he saw huge tents that were set up, presumably to hold those who weren’t Awakened.
He didn’t have the time to go in and have a look, since the hour was going to be up soon.
Alex had to go to the warehouses that stored all the devices and injections to be used for the experiments.
These warehouses weren’t as heavily guarded as the ammunition depot, so it was much easier for him to get into them.
And using his storage portals again, he swept everything that was in their packaging, leaving the packaging intact as he had done earlier.
Then, he got out of the south piers as fast as he could muster.
Thankfully, as the night got darker, it was much easier for him to leave undetected than it was.
He stopped in the middle of the grass field and waited for the one-minute cool-down period before he turned into his shadow form again.
When he got back to the edge of the grass field, Riley, Terry and Brian were glad to see him.
"We were just getting ready to start driving the mutated beasts in the grass field towards the piers," Riley said, and gave out a sigh.
Terry and Brian nodded in agreement.
The three of them were worried about him and they were relieved that he was able to come back safely.
"So, what’s happening in the quarantine area?" Brian asked and Alex gave out a long sigh.
Alex shook his head and replied, "It is what we have expected."
He went on and started to brief them on what he had been able to gather from his time in the quarantine area.
"I knew it!" Riley pointed at the southern piers and cursed in the direction.
"We don’t have time for this now. We better get back to the dorm as soon as possible." Alex said and he got a car out of his storage space.
After he did so, there were sounds of alarm ringing in the distance.
It came from the southern piers.
Someone must have discovered that things were missing.
They can’t stay where they were any longer.
All of them got into the car and Riley drove off immediately.
Vroom.
With the roar of the engine, the tires screeched before the car sped off into the darkness of the night.
...
Along the way, all of them kept quiet.
Alex thought about what to do next when they arrived back at the college campus.
As for the others, they weren’t too sure if they could hold off the special ops team if it ever came down to it.
So far, they had dealt with one or two Awakened, who weren’t trained or as coordinated as they were.
These special ops teams were most likely different and they worried about being able to fight them off successfully.
Alex saw their worried expression and said, "Don’t worry too much about it.
"The Elite Awakened Special Ops Unit had just been set up, so I doubt that they can work well together so soon.
"And out of so many students in the college, there were only a handful that were beyond having an A Level ability or above.
"Being at S Level already puts you among the top 10% of Awakened.
"From the distribution among the Awakened who were kept captive, it was around the same.
"So, unless the Elite Awakened Special Ops Unit was able to gather so many Awakened who were at S to SSS Level, which is unlikely, I wouldn’t worry too much about how powerful they were.
"They would most likely team someone who was at S Level or above together with those at lower levels.
"It’s not something that we haven’t dealt with before."
"We can only hope so." Riley gave out a sigh and steered the steering wheel to the left.
The car turned a hard left and it got onto the highway from where they came from.
It was still an open path and he stepped on the pedal.
They would be back at the college very soon.
Alex glanced out of the car window but there was nothing else he could see except for the darkness and stars up in the sky.
He didn’t expect it to come so soon again, but it was most likely going to be a long night ahead.
