Apocalypse Descends: I Win Effortlessly by Turning Trash into Treasure
Chapter 332: Carboniferous Period 4
The first day passed just like that.
Having found the first card, Perry Yates took out her Safe House and found a spot where it could bask in the Moonlight.
Knowing that the high oxygen content of this era meant even a tiny spark could cause a massive fire, Perry Yates didn’t light a fire outside. She just boiled a bag of wontons to eat.
After eating and drinking her fill, Perry Yates finally lay down on her bed. Through the skylight above, she saw the bright moon and a sky full of stars—a sight she had never witnessed on Cerulea.
“So beautiful. It’s a shame I can’t take a picture to remember it.”
Sighing with appreciation, Perry Yates soon drifted off to sleep.
While she slept comfortably under the moon, the other players who had entered this game were not having such a pleasant time.
As the era with the highest oxygen levels in Earth’s history, it was anything but good for humans.
The oxygen and moisture content in the air were both high. Even just standing still felt like being submerged in water, and their clothes were completely soaked.
Earlier in the day, Perry Yates had tried deactivating the barrier of her Protection Suit. She regretted it less than a second later and immediately put it back up.
It just went to show that every era nurtures its own life forms; there was a reason humans didn’t appear during the Carboniferous Period.
Previous games had been harsh, at worst. But this time, not only was the environment hostile, but deadly dangers also lurked everywhere. Even their life-saving cards were gone. All they had left were the five initial item cards.
Beyond that, they had nothing.
Meanwhile, in another part of the forest, a middle-aged man was moving swiftly through the jungle. However, judging by his current condition, he was in terrible shape.
The high-oxygen environment and the moisture in the air were taking a heavy toll on his body.
He gripped a sharp Tang Blade, the weapon he had brought into this game.
Although firearms were clearly more damaging than melee weapons, they only had a chance to mutate and gain an infinite ammo mode after reaching three stars. The value of such an item card was far beyond that of other cards; he simply couldn’t afford one.
Besides, his Tang Blade was a high-level item itself—a three-star item card he had worked hard to obtain. It had seen him through countless games.
This time, he had entered the game brimming with confidence.
But as soon as he arrived, the environment had put him in his place. Unfamiliar plants were everywhere, and he couldn’t even tell if any were edible just by looking at them.
He hadn’t found a single wild fruit since the game began.
He had entered jungle dungeons before, even primeval jungle dungeons, but none had ever been this difficult right from the start. And he couldn’t find a single mistake or exploit.
On top of that, the insects here were all gigantic and incredibly vicious. They attacked him on sight. Their numbers were so overwhelming that he couldn’t even try to evade them; his only choice was to keep killing.
But without the aid of Skill Cards, his combat prowess hadn’t just dropped a little—it had been cut in half, and then cut in half again.
After killing the giant bugs, even if he managed to carve off parts that looked edible, he didn’t dare to eat them. He had no idea if they were poisonous.
Moreover, he had been fighting and fleeing since the very beginning, with no time to rest, let alone live.
Right now, what was chasing him was an insect he couldn’t name, but based on its appearance, it looked like an ancestor of the scorpion.
Besides dodging its two massive pincers, he also had to evade the attacks from its venomous tail stinger.
The man risked a glance back. Seeing the giant insect beast right on his heels, he couldn’t help but swallow hard, wondering if he had any cards on him, other than the Tang Blade, that could be of use.
‘Looks like I have to use that card.’
As if making a firm decision, the man took out a card.
Just then, the grass in his path rustled. A gigantic Millipede burst out, its huge mouthparts wide open as it lunged at the man.
Under these circumstances, the man no longer hesitated and immediately activated the card.
With a flash of golden light, the man’s figure vanished.
Seeing their prey suddenly disappear, the two giant insects hesitated for a moment, as if in thought. But an insect’s intelligence doesn’t get much higher even when its body gets bigger.
So, after a brief pause, the two creatures turned on each other and began to fight.
Elsewhere, the man let out a sigh of relief after escaping his pursuers. At the same time, the light on the card he held in his hand dimmed.
The man was incredibly thankful he had brought this card. Otherwise, given the situation just now, he would have long since become a meal for those bugs.
However, it was only the first day, and he had already used the card he’d been saving as his trump card.
‘Luckily, this card can be used three times in total. I still have two uses left.’
The man carefully put the card away, tucking it close to his body.
He had obtained this card from a Croupier on his home planet. Although it had no level, making it a White Card, it had three uses. It could provide him with the optimal solution or method based on his current environment.
Thinking back on what had just happened, the man suddenly took out the card he had just put away. He now keenly understood the dangers of this game and the trouble of being without Skills.
With only his Tang Blade and no Skills, it was an exhausting struggle to kill even one bug. Not to mention, he hadn’t had a single bite to eat or a moment to drink water since the start.
The moisture content in the air was high, sure, but it wasn’t like he could drink it. Humans can’t absorb water through their skin.
He used the card again. A flash of golden light, and a backpack, a detailed map, a mask, a restorative oxygen bottle, a bag of bread, and a bottle of water appeared in the man’s hands.
These items looked unremarkable, but they were exactly what he needed most right now.
He stowed the map, mask, and oxygen bottle, then eagerly grabbed the bread and water and began to eat.
He devoured the bread and water in the blink of an eye, wiped his mouth, and then took out the map.
This was no ordinary map. Several points of light shimmered faintly on its surface.
He wasn’t sure what the points of light were, but he planned to head over and check them out the next day.
