Apocalypse Descends: I Win Effortlessly by Turning Trash into Treasure
Chapter 331: Carboniferous Period 3
Although the Silver Cross prevented the insects from detecting her, it also meant they couldn’t see her at all. They could easily trample right over her by accident.
Magnified by tens, even hundreds of times, the insects’ appearances had become utterly terrifying.
Furthermore, in the Carboniferous Period, Perry Yates had to be wary of another danger besides the insects: fire.
During this period, the oxygen content in the air was extremely high. The slightest spark could ignite a massive blaze—even freshly rain-soaked wood would instantly catch fire, making it exceptionally dangerous.
At this thought, Perry Yates suddenly remembered something. ’My cards are all plants! What if a fire breaks out? They’ll be burned to a crisp! No, I have to find them. Fast.’
’Hang in there, my cards. Mama’s coming to save you!’
And so, while other players prioritized finding supplies, Perry Yates made finding her cards her number one goal. After all, once she had her cards, every other problem would solve itself.
Fortunately, the path she was on looked very familiar, just like the one she had seen in her foreknowledge. It seemed she was on the right track.
After walking for the better part of the day, Perry Yates felt tired. She found a spot to sit and recover some of her strength.
Along the way, she had encountered numerous giant insects, many of which were fighting to the death. She had also spotted lizards—the ancestors of the dinosaurs.
Compared to the insects, these dinosaur ancestors were quite small, but to Perry Yates, they were still enormous.
She hadn’t been resting long when she suddenly received a message from her Spiritual Body. One of the spirits had located the Sunflower. Based on its aura, it confirmed this was the first card she was looking for: Twin Sunflowers.
"Looks like my luck is good."
Perry Yates jumped to her feet and sprinted in that direction. She had to get to the Twin Sunflowers as soon as possible; this feeling of being without her cards left her feeling completely vulnerable.
She still had her item cards, but they just weren’t the same as her Skill Cards.
Half an hour later, Perry Yates finally reached her destination. A massive Sunflower, a full twenty meters tall, appeared in her field of vision.
Because her foreknowledge had given her an omniscient, top-down view, she hadn’t noticed anything unusual about it before. Only now did she realize the Sunflower was absurdly large.
’Is it this big because of the instance, or was it always like this?’
After mulling it over for a moment, Perry Yates quickly pushed the thought to the back of her mind.
As if sensing her presence, the motionless Sunflower suddenly stirred. The next second, it transformed into a ray of golden light and entered Perry Yates’s body.
"So you wanted to find me, too."
The moment the golden light merged with her, Perry Yates sensed the card’s emotions. It was a feeling filled with longing, like that of a child suddenly separated from its mother.
’Then again, it makes sense,’ she thought. Twin Sunflowers was her very first card. She had nurtured it all the way from a White Card to a five-star card, so of course it was deeply attached to her.
Her first card back in her possession, Perry Yates’s confidence soared.
She walked over to the nearest fern, placed her hand gently upon it, and tried to communicate, hoping to find her remaining cards this way.
"I wonder if the plants of the Carboniferous Period can understand me."
Just as Perry Yates was tentatively reaching out, she was surprised to receive a response from the plant.
Perhaps because they had never known the treachery of the human heart, the plants’ thoughts were still very pure and simple.
Perry Yates asked them if they had seen any other special plants appear suddenly, like the Sunflower, and to her surprise, they actually pointed her in a certain direction.
’Since the goal is to find the cards, and time is limited, their scattered locations probably aren’t too far from the players.’
’No, that’s not quite right,’ she reconsidered. ’After all, not all players are like me, with plant-based cards. Many players have cards whose true forms are animals, objects, or even intangible elements.’
’Putting aside the others, animal cards definitely wouldn’t stay put in one place.’
At this thought, Perry Yates felt once again that her cards were truly the best, obediently waiting for her right where she left them.
Even with the plants’ guidance, Perry Yates didn’t leave immediately. Instead, she stood in the spot where the Twin Sunflowers had been growing and began to sunbathe.
Two Sunflower leaves sprouted from the top of her head. Her body, weary from the journey, began to slowly recover, and the hunger in her stomach gradually faded away.
Once she had absorbed her fill of Sun Energy, Perry Yates contentedly left the spot.
The vegetation here was incredibly dense, so finding a spot to bask in the sun was no easy feat.
Following the plants’ guidance, Perry Yates spent another half-day traveling, finding the indicated location just before nightfall.
Unfortunately, while it was a card, it wasn’t one of hers. It was a plant that looked like a lush, picture-perfect weed—she called it that because it looked exactly like a textbook drawing of grass.
’But so what if it doesn’t belong to me?’ she thought. ’Finders keepers. I’m not about to let this opportunity slip by.’
’Besides, I’m sure that if other players found my cards, they wouldn’t hesitate to take them either.’
Probably because it wasn’t one of her own cards, the plant it had transformed into was extremely hostile toward her.
As Perry Yates approached, the seemingly harmless, verdant leaves suddenly began to grow rapidly, their tips becoming incredibly sharp.
If those attacks landed, she’d be turned into a human pincushion in an instant.
However, Perry Yates wasn’t fazed by the attack. The reason was simple: a suppression mechanic existed between cards, especially those of the same attribute.
She dodged the attack and summoned her Twin Sunflowers.
The blue Sunflower glowed with a faint cerulean light in the darkness, appearing both cold and gentle. Compared to the aggressive Sword Grass, the blue Sunflower had virtually no attack power.
And yet, the moment the blue Sunflower appeared, the aggressive Sword Grass instantly lost all its bluster. It even began to shrink in size.
Seeing that it was completely suppressed, Perry Yates leisurely walked over and plucked the now palm-sized Sword Grass from the ground, roots and all.
In her hand, the Sword Grass transformed back into a card.
"A three-star card. No wonder it was so fierce."
Perry Yates stored the card away, having no intention of fusing with it.
