Apocalypse Descends: I Win Effortlessly by Turning Trash into Treasure
Chapter 333: Carboniferous Period 5
The man found a relatively hidden spot, taking out an oxygen tank and mask to put on.
As he inhaled the oxygen, his entire body instantly felt much lighter.
「The second day of the game.」
Perry Yates had rested well the previous night, so she woke up early. After a quick bite to eat, she left the Safe House.
You might be wondering how she had food, considering players weren’t allowed to bring supplies into the game.
The game only forbade bringing extra supplies, but the food Perry Yates ate came with the Safe House itself; it was part of the card.
Probably not even the game itself had expected the Safe House to contain food.
Although there wasn’t a lot, it was enough to last her for several days. If she rationed it, it could last even longer.
Perry Yates tidied up and prepared to leave.
This time, with the guidance of the plants, her objective was much clearer.
She would start with the nearest one. She refused to believe she couldn’t find her precious cards.
Along the way, there were still many giant insects, and even in the sky, they would occasionally fly past.
However, these insects seemed oblivious to Perry Yates’s presence, as if they couldn’t see her at all.
The Silver Cross’s fundamental ability was to reduce a person’s presence, not grant Invisibility. Although the insects were ignoring her now, they would still be able to see her if she provoked them.
As she drew closer to her destination, Perry Yates detected other sounds from a distance—it sounded like people talking.
‘Did someone get here before me?’
At this thought, Perry Yates quickened her pace, wanting to get there faster.
Just as she drew near, she saw several players standing before a patch of shadow.
The trees overhead blocked most of the sunlight, making the surroundings quite dim; one could only tell day from night by the sparse light and the temperature. But this patch of shadow was jarringly out of place. It was obviously unnatural.
Most importantly, a small moon was hovering above this patch of shadow.
The players who had arrived first had already tried many times to claim this card.
The card might not have been theirs, but in this situation, finders were keepers. If you asked why, the answer was simply that you were a step too slow.
Their justification was likely that perhaps the card was more “fated” to be with them, that it *wanted* to follow them more. After all, someone else had stolen their card before, and they hadn’t even settled that score yet.
Taking advantage of the fact that no one could notice her, Perry Yates brazenly stood at the very back to watch.
Just then, a girl in a white tracksuit with her hair in a high ponytail stepped forward. A card appeared in her hand, and the next second, it transformed into a camera-like device.
With a CLICK from the camera, a mechanical voice sounded.
[Card Name: Moon Shadow Stealth
Attribute: Moon
Rank: Five Stars
Ability: Grants the user the ability to move freely through shadows and control them. This ability is greatly enhanced under Moonlight.]
A commotion erupted among the players after they heard the description.
A Five-Star Skill Card! That was an absolute luxury, even for a Croupier, let alone for ordinary players like them.
“This card is mine! I’ll kill anyone who dares to make a move!”
One of the players declared domineeringly. A shotgun appeared in his hand, and he aimed it at the others.
Seeing this, the crowd took a few steps back, but they showed no intention of leaving. Their eyes remained fixed on the shadow, making it clear they weren’t going anywhere.
Meanwhile, the female player who had used the identification item was kicking herself. If she had known this would happen, she wouldn’t have taken out the item just to show off her importance.
If she had used the item secretly instead of showing it off, she might have been able to keep the card all to herself.
And just as tensions reached a boiling point, Perry Yates—the true owner of the Moon Shadow Stealth card—simply crooked her finger. The patch of shadow began to shrink rapidly, and even the hanging moon vanished.
While the others were still bickering over ownership, Moon Shadow Stealth had already transformed into a black shadow and merged with Perry Yates’s own.
Perry Yates took the opportunity to slip away, leaving behind the sounds of anger, accusations, and suspicion.
Only after reaching a safe place did Perry Yates step out of the shadows. She had now found two of her fifteen cards.
At this rate, she would be able to find all her cards soon.
Moreover, Perry Yates discovered another benefit of retrieving her cards: her body seemed to be adapting to this world’s environment.
It was still not entirely comfortable, but at least it wasn’t as agonizing as before.
‘I guess this game hasn’t left players completely without a way to survive.’
No sooner had Perry Yates had this thought than she turned a corner and saw a giant, unidentifiable insectoid beast, eating.
Initially, she wasn’t interested in what it was eating, but as luck would have it, she spotted fragments of clothing on the ground.
Moving to a different angle, she saw that the bug was indeed eating a person.
The person’s body was already half-eaten. The upper half was gone, leaving only the lower body.
Perry Yates ended the bug’s life with a single shot, then walked over to the corpse and picked up two cards scattered on the ground.
‘A player is supposed to carry five cards. Two are here, but where are the rest?’
Perry Yates searched the surrounding area and the body, but found no trace of the other cards.
‘Could they have been eaten?’
As this thought occurred to her, Perry Yates’s gaze fell upon the abdomen of the bug she had just killed.
Coincidentally, one of the two cards she had found was a large machete.
After activating it, a sharp machete appeared in her hand. She swung it fiercely down at the bug’s abdomen.
Inside the bug’s abdomen, Perry Yates found the remaining cards… or rather, fragments of them.
That’s right, fragments. And by the looks of it, they had already started to be digested.
Seeing this, Perry Yates took a few steps back in disgust and turned to leave.
Of the two salvaged cards, one was the large machete, and the other was a pair of gloves.
The gloves’ ability was somewhat similar to the Spider Armor she used to have, allowing the user to traverse vertical walls or move through jungles with ease.
“Mm, not bad. Both are very practical cards.”
Perry Yates popped a piece of candy into her mouth.
The candy had a detoxifying effect. It was a precaution against any unexpected situations where she might die before she even had a chance to take an antidote.
This was mainly because she had seen several swamps on the ground earlier, which made her think of swamp gas—that stuff was poisonous.
