Apocalypse Descends: I Win Effortlessly by Turning Trash into Treasure
Chapter 327: Selling Talents
Players with enhancement-type Talents, like Body Enhancement or Speed Enhancement, were the most numerous, so Perry Yates wasn’t exactly short on customers.
If her Talent had been something else, perhaps they could have negotiated the price.
Sure enough, it didn’t take long for the haggling player to be pushed aside by the others.
“If you’re not going to sell, then move! Boss, my Talent is C-rank Vision Enhancement.”
“A C-rank Talent can be copied fifty times. One hundred thousand each.”
Fifty copies meant five million.
Although most players weren’t short on cash, who would turn down such a windfall?
The player immediately decided to sell all fifty copies.
Perry Yates was very direct. After copying his Talent fifty times, she immediately transferred five million to his account.
With several dungeons making her money, the one thing Perry Yates didn’t lack right now was cash.
After stowing away the fifty faintly glowing blue cards, she moved on to copy the next player’s Talent.
Unfortunately, the next dozen or so players all had enhancement-type Talents. There was Body Enhancement, Skin Enhancement, Eye Enhancement, Teeth Enhancement, and even enhancements for internal organs like the heart, kidneys, liver, and stomach.
Perry Yates accepted them all, paying out just as quickly for each one.
Just then, a boy who looked quite young squeezed through the crowd. “My Talent is the A-rank Talent, Emotional Resonance,” he announced. “It lets me resonate with other people’s emotions, influencing their behavior and judgment.”
It was the first time an A-rank Talent had appeared among the crowd, and everyone’s eyes naturally fell upon the young-looking boy.
The regulars at The Card Tavern mostly recognized one another, but as they searched their memories, they realized none of them had ever seen this boy before.
“An A-rank Talent can be copied twenty times. One million each. How many copies do you want to make?” Perry Yates asked, her voice low.
Hearing the one-million price tag, the crowd gasped. They never imagined an A-rank Talent could be so valuable. That was a million per copy! Twenty copies would be twenty million. With that kind of money, you could commission a custom three-star Card.
Instantly, numerous greedy eyes landed on the boy.
The boy paid no mind to the greedy stares fixed on him. “All of them,” he said with determination.
“Done.”
As the copying process started, Perry Yates prepared to transfer the twenty million to his account. But the boy didn’t provide his account number. Instead, he asked, “Can I exchange the money for Cards instead?”
Hearing this, Perry Yates paused for a moment. After some thought, she nodded. “You can. The copies of an A-rank Talent are worth two custom three-star Cards. You can go to the second floor and choose which attribute Cards you want, or you can give your requirements to the butler.”
Most of the three-star Cards were kept on the second floor.
Seeing that someone had managed to trade for a custom Card, another player immediately piped up, “Boss, name your price! I want to commission a five-star Card.”
Others quickly chimed in with their own requests.
“No. My rule here is that custom Cards can only be exchanged for other Cards.”
Hearing this, many people looked indignant. “Then why could he do it? And he got two of them!” one of them protested, pointing at the boy who was already heading for the second floor.
“He traded his Talent for them, and an A-rank Talent at that.” As she spoke, Perry Yates waved the Talent Card in her hand, which now glowed with a faint golden light.
“You can trade Talents for Cards? Why didn’t you say so earlier?”
“You never asked,” Perry Yates said with a shrug. “Besides, only A-rank Talents and higher get this special treatment.”
At Perry’s words, the crowd looked disappointed. A few were visibly resentful, but thankfully, their anger didn’t overwhelm their sense. They knew where they were and didn’t dare lose their heads.
After tinkering with the Talent Photocopier on the first floor for a while longer, Perry Yates grew bored. She summoned a small doll, handed the job over to it, and gave it her bank account details to use for the transfers.
She had asked Sylas Sawyer to set up the bank account for her, so she wasn’t worried about her identity being exposed.
After handing off the “job,” Perry Yates left The Card Tavern.
The former construction site had transformed into a bustling commercial street, teeming with a lively, endless stream of pedestrians.
Perry Yates’s sudden appearance didn’t attract much notice. The people here were used to it, knowing that those who appeared or vanished abruptly were simply players entering or leaving The Card Tavern.
After leaving The Card Tavern, Perry Yates walked to the end of the street, where a building strikingly similar to the tavern itself was under construction. It was now nearly complete.
A few days prior, Perry Yates, in her capacity as the owner of The Card Tavern, had requested that the Survival Game Administration construct this building.
‘They took my stuff, so it’s only fair they do me a small favor.’
‘I only mentioned it offhand. I can’t believe they actually made a perfect one-to-one replica, right down to the numbers on the sign.’
Walking inside, Perry Yates began to set up the place.
Her idea of “setting up” was simply to decorate the interior with the various Cards she had on hand.
She wanted to open for business as soon as possible, and regular renovations meant dealing with formaldehyde. To avoid the hassle, she simply opted to use Cards instead.
Perry Yates’s reason for building this second “Card Tavern” was simple: to sell the Talents she had copied from other players.
Just as she was finishing up, Sylas Sawyer walked in. “You didn’t build an exact replica of The Card Tavern just to sell those Talents you’ve been copying from players, did you?”
“Is there a problem with that?” Perry Yates said defiantly.
Sylas Sawyer said, “…I didn’t say there was. But how do you plan on selling them?”
“To the highest bidder, of course. I’m not running a charity. Did you think I was going to give them away for free?” As she spoke, Perry Yates began to price the Talent Cards.
Sylas Sawyer’s eye twitched as he looked at the prices Perry Yates was setting.
‘I knew the owner of The Card Tavern was ruthless, but I didn’t think she was this bad. She’s marked up the prices by more than ten times! And the A-rank Talents are up for auction, no less.’
Noticing Sylas Sawyer’s look, Perry Yates puffed out her cheeks. “What? You think my prices are too high? It’s not like there aren’t any cheap ones.”
“The enhancement-type Talents are all cheap. Especially the E-rank ones. Even marked up ten times, they’re only ten thousand. That’s cheaper than the latest iPhone. Anyone could afford that if they just saved up a little.”
