Chapter 484: Chapter 242: The Threat of Mutual Destruction

Pei Ze felt a slight pang of regret, but he quickly reined in his thoughts and turned to look at the pale Wizard Tower in the distance.

The two large Wizard Towers that had been clashing had stopped at some point, and now they hovered high in the sky, facing each other from afar.

With a flash of light, a figure appeared out of thin air high above.

It was a man with a somewhat gloomy and cold disposition.

Judging by his slightly transparent appearance, it was just a projection.

Evidently, this was the leader of the defecting Wizards, the former Dawn Council Councillor, Pan Mo.

After appearing high in the sky, Pan Mo’s gaze shot like a sword toward the top floor of the All-Knowing Wizard Tower, as if landing directly on Pei Ze on the Stargazing Platform.

"Pei Ze, you are not a member of the Silver Light Legion. Why are you interfering in the matters between me and them?"

At first glance, this statement seemed unreasonable, but it was actually quite logical.

Pei Ze did not hail from the Silver Light Legion, nor was he a Councillor of the Dawn Council. Even though he was from Chenxi City, without having received a pursuit order from the Dawn Council, he truly had no obligation to participate in this battle.

And Wizards had never been known for their sense of collective honor. The two words "no obligation" were reason enough for them to stay out of others’ affairs.

However, in the face of Pan Mo’s questioning, Pei Ze just gave a faint smile. He too conjured a projection in front of his Wizard Tower and said calmly, "It seems you’ve forgotten my origins."

That short sentence sent Pan Mo into silence.

The reason he was being hunted by the Dawn Council was because he was the Pei Family’s backer, and the Pei Family had gotten too close, even getting involved in research on profane artifacts.

And as everyone knew, Pei Ze was a "bloodless one" who had been expelled from the Pei Family. He’d had quite a few conflicts with them afterward.

Strictly speaking, Pei Ze was even the one who had single-handedly brought about the Pei Family’s downfall.

From this perspective, it was not without reason that Pei Ze was taking action against Pan Mo.

Pan Mo sighed softly and said, "In that case, you’re determined to interfere?"

Pei Ze gave a scornful laugh. "Let’s skip the nonsense. Judging by your calm demeanor, you must have a trump card up your sleeve. You should play it now, before you lose the chance."

In the previous battle, Pei Ze had already proven his strength. He was capable of fighting a Sixth-level Wizard who possessed a Wizard Tower.

In other words, Pan Mo was now facing two opponents of the same caliber.

For him to remain so calm in the extremely disadvantageous situation of one against two, Pei Ze would be the first to disbelieve that he didn’t have a trump card.

BUZZ!

Another flash of light appeared, and a figure materialized out of thin air not far away.

It was a man who appeared to be in his forties, with a tall, sturdy build and a resolute face.

Pei Ze glanced at the man and thought for a moment, quickly recalling his identity.

The Dawn Council Councillor, Sixth-level Wizard Ji Zhang.

When he had first entered the Turin Plane, he had heard that this very Councillor had slain a Demigod from the Winter Frost Sect.

Among the current Sixth-level Wizards in Chenxi City, Ji Zhang’s strength was easily in the top three.

"Pan Mo, surrender without a fight," Ji Zhang said, his face devoid of expression.

"I remember you not being one for nonsense," Pan Mo said with a faint smile. "Besides, just as Pei Ze said, I haven’t reached a point of desperation yet."

As Pan Mo’s words fell, a wisp of pale flame suddenly ignited with a HISS at the top of the Wizard Tower behind him. It spread rapidly down the tower’s body, enveloping the entire structure in the blink of an eye.

From a distance, it looked as if a giant, cone-shaped torch had appeared in the sky.

A chilling aura of death spread out, instantly filling the area for a hundred kilometers around.

In that instant, every Wizard within that area felt an extreme chill shoot up their spine. It was as if they had been plunged into an icy cavern, their limbs turning cold.

"Death Divine Power! And this flame!" Ji Zhang’s expression changed drastically, as if he had realized something. "The God of Decay and Death!"

Pan Mo chuckled faintly. "As expected of you, Ji Zhang. You recognized the origin of this flame at a glance. If that’s the case, you should know that you people alone cannot possibly stop me."

Ji Zhang’s expression was grim. He snorted coldly and said, "That’s not necessarily true. I’m afraid you haven’t truly mastered this power yet."

If Pan Mo had completely mastered the Cyan Flame of the God of Decay and Death, he could have easily caught him off guard in the previous battle.

Without any defense, he definitely would have suffered a great loss.

But Pan Mo hadn’t done so. The only reason could be that he hadn’t mastered this power yet, and forcing its use would come at an unbearable price.

"You’re right."

Pan Mo was surprisingly forthright, admitting it candidly.

"I only recently obtained this power. If I were to use it by force, the backlash would be enough to kill me."

"But before that happens, I can absolutely drag everyone here down with me."

"Including you, and Pei Ze."

Pan Mo narrowed his eyes, his gaze deep and dark as he stared at Ji Zhang.

"Now it’s your turn to choose, Ji Zhang. Will it be mutual destruction with me, or will we end it here?"

These words made Ji Zhang’s face darken completely, his expression shifting uncertainly.

Pei Ze, on the other hand, remained perfectly composed, his expression as tranquil as ever.

He could clearly sense the terrifying might contained within the pale flames on the Wizard Tower.

It was a power in no way inferior to the Power of Rules.

Pan Mo’s words were not an empty threat.

If Ji Zhang really decided to fight Pan Mo, Pei Ze would absolutely turn around and leave with Yin Xue without a second thought.

He had helped the Silver Light Legion because it was a small effort on his part. If it meant risking his own life, then he would have to respectfully decline.

However, according to his speculation, there was a ninety-percent chance things wouldn’t get to that point.

’Still, Wizards aren’t creatures with a sense of collective honor. Most of them cherish their lives far too much and would never risk them for the sake of a so-called mission.’

Sure enough, after a moment of silence, Ji Zhang’s expression quickly returned to one of indifference. He gave Pan Mo a deep look, and his figure vanished into thin air.

This action undoubtedly made his stance clear.

Pan Mo smiled faintly, turned to Pei Ze, and said, "And what are your thoughts, Mr. Pei?"

Although he was only facing a Level 5 Wizard, Pan Mo’s words placed Pei Ze on equal footing with himself. After all, the latter had already proven his strength.

Pei Ze didn’t speak, merely shrugging. His attitude was self-evident.

Pan Mo said no more, and his projection disappeared.

At the same time, the pale flames on the Wizard Tower slowly vanished. An invisible ripple spread out, and the defecting Wizards still on the battlefield instantly disappeared, having been forcibly teleported into the Wizard Tower.

Immediately after, the Wizard Tower erupted in a dazzling light and then vanished abruptly, leaving nothing behind.

The battle ended just as inexplicably as it had begun. The members of the Witch Hunting Team present were a little slow to react, looking at each other, speechless.

With a flash of light, Ji Zhang suddenly appeared beside Pei Ze—his true self this time.

"Thank you," Ji Zhang said, his gratitude concise.

If Pei Ze hadn’t intervened this time, Pan Mo, with his trump card, might have given them a ’surprise’.

Pei Ze waved his hand and asked casually, "Lord Ji Zhang, what are your plans now?"

Ji Zhang was silent for a few seconds before saying in a low voice, "Pan Mo was originally comprehending the Rule of Death. Now he has somehow obtained the Cyan Flame Divine Power of the God of Decay and Death. His breakthrough is likely just a matter of time. I must inform the Council of this as soon as possible."

Pei Ze nodded slightly.

If Pan Mo really advanced to become a Rule Wizard, Chenxi City would immediately gain another troublesome and powerful enemy.

The difference in stature between a Sixth-level Wizard and a Rule Wizard was like heaven and earth.

To nip the threat in the bud, the Dawn Council would most likely ask several Rule Wizards to act personally and hunt down Pan Mo.

However, this matter had little to do with him, so Pei Ze asked a few questions and then lost interest.

The situation was urgent, so Ji Zhang didn’t linger. He soon left with the members of the Witch Hunting Team.

Only Yin Xue seemed reluctant to leave. She had finally gotten to see Pei Ze, only to be separated again after exchanging just a few words.

Watching Ji Zhang and the Witch Hunting Team depart, Pei Ze scanned his surroundings and soon discovered a red bat hiding under a rock.
