Chapter 480: Chapter 240: Cyan Flame Divine Domain (Part 2)
Wouldn’t that date back several eons?
Could it be an Ancient God that had fallen?
After a long moment, Gu Lin finally came to her senses. She swallowed hard and asked, "Are you going in, Annie?"
"Of course," Annie replied without hesitation, a smile appearing on her face. "The corpse of a Death Deity isn’t easy to find. I certainly can’t miss out on such a rare research specimen."
Gu Lin thought about it and had to agree.
Most Death Deities are high-level Divine Spirits, each more powerful than the last. Killing one is easier said than done.
Even an organization as powerful as the Star Realm Alliance has never managed to kill a single Death Deity.
But understanding was one thing; Gu Lin was still a little worried.
"Will there be any problems?"
Annie thought for a moment before saying, "You can wait for me outside. I’ll leave the Crocodile Dragon with you. As long as you don’t run into a Great Demon, it will be enough to keep you safe."
Gu Lin hesitated for a moment, then finally gritted her teeth and said, "No, I’m going with you."
After all, she was also extremely curious about the fallen Death Deity.
In the end, the desire to explore triumphed over her fear.
Annie saw this and a faint smile touched her lips.
"Then let’s go."
The two then leaped off the Crocodile Dragon’s back and landed before the dark mouth of the cave.
Annie waved her hand, and the empty space before the cave entrance distorted, as if something had been wiped away and had vanished.
"Alright, let’s go in."
Annie was the first to step into the cave.
Gu Lin took a deep breath, her expression solemn, and followed, plunging into the cave.
Darkness fell. It was like entering a pitch-black corridor where she couldn’t see her hand in front of her face. Gu Lin could only vaguely make out Annie’s form ahead, and she followed closely behind her.
After walking for several hundred meters, she felt as if she had passed through a barrier, and the view before her suddenly opened up.
Before her was a grand, ancient hall. Neat gray flagstones lay underfoot, and a semi-circular dome formed the ceiling above. On her left and right, towering stone pillars stood at equal intervals, forming a wide passageway that led to a massive throne at the far end.
A figure more than ten meters tall, clad in heavy armor that obscured its face, sat upon the throne, exuding a cold and heavy aura.
As her gaze fell upon the figure, Gu Lin’s breath caught in her throat. She felt a powerful pressure wash over her, enveloping her entire body. For a moment, it was as if she had been plunged into the icy depths of the sea, creating the illusion that she was suffocating, unable to breathe.
Annie suddenly took a step forward, blocking Gu Lin’s line of sight. Only then did Gu Lin snap out of it, gasping for air with wide, horrified eyes.
’Is this the might of an Ancient God?’
’It’s just a corpse that’s been dead for years, and merely looking at it was almost enough to kill a Second-level Wizard like me on the spot.’
’How powerful must it have been when it was alive?’
Annie turned around and tapped Gu Lin’s forehead with her index finger. A gleam of Magic flashed, and Gu Lin instantly felt her entire body relax.
"You can look at it directly now, but don’t get too close. This divine corpse is still shrouded in a very dense Power of Death Rules. It must have belonged to a Divine Spirit at least at the level of a god of gods."
Annie’s eyes lit up slightly as she scanned her surroundings.
"No wonder these Prayerers could survive for so many years after their master fell. It turns out they were relying on this Power of Rules."
Gu Lin froze for a second. Following Annie’s gaze, she discovered that vague silhouettes had appeared at some point in the surrounding gloom. They were divine creatures, at least twenty of them.
However, they seemed to sense Annie’s power and terrifying presence. They stopped in their tracks, not daring to approach, merely standing in place and staring coldly at the two women with crimson, bestial eyes.
Gu Lin swallowed hard again.
After all, being stared down by more than twenty fifth- and sixth-level divine creatures would make any Second-level Wizard feel immense pressure.
Annie didn’t spare the divine creatures a single glance, completely ignoring them. Her gaze remained fixed on the divine corpse on the throne.
Then, she started walking toward the throne.
But at that very moment, something unexpected happened.
With a soft HISS, pale flames abruptly shot up from the ground, spreading out in all directions like threads. In the blink of an eye, they covered the entire hall.
The moment the flames touched the surrounding divine creatures, they let out a collective, mournful cry. Their bodies spontaneously combusted, turning into pale flames that merged with the rest.
Looking down from above, the thin, pale flames densely covered the entire hall, outlining a massive Array. And at its very center were Annie and Gu Lin.
The sudden turn of events startled Gu Lin. She subconsciously tried to gather her Spiritual Power to cast a Defense Magic, but she quickly discovered to her horror that her Spiritual Power was draining away at an astonishing rate.
At the same time, waves of weakness washed over her from within, creating the illusion that her life was coming to an end.
The next second, she felt a slight weight on her shoulder. It was Annie, who had placed a hand on it.
In an instant, the draining of her Spiritual Power stopped, and the feeling of weakness vanished completely.
Gu Lin breathed a sigh of relief and looked at Annie, only to find a rare, solemn expression on her face.
She narrowed her eyes, her gaze fixed on the throne ahead.
Soon, the soft sound of footsteps was heard, and a tall, burly man slowly walked out from behind the throne.
His face looked young, but his eyes held an indescribable, world-weary depth. He exuded a gloomy aura.
The moment she saw the man’s face clearly, Gu Lin’s expression changed.
Annie clearly recognized him as well. "I thought I was the first to discover this place," she said lightly. "I didn’t expect Councillor Pan to beat me to it."
Pan Mo’s lips twitched as he forced a smile. He placed a hand on his chest and bowed to Annie.
"It has been a long time, Lady Annie."
"Also, I have been expelled from the Dawn Council. I am no longer a Councillor."
Annie didn’t comment on that. She glanced at the pale flames around them and said flatly, "What is the meaning of this?"
Pan Mo sighed, a troubled expression on his face.
"It’s quite a coincidence. I set this trap originally to deal with pursuers from the Silver Light Legion. I never expected to accidentally catch you in it, Lady Annie. I can only ask you to bear with staying here for a little while."
"Just a little while?" Annie said with a half-smile. "If I’m not mistaken, this should be the Cyan Flame Divine Domain, shouldn’t it? The Divine Domain rumored to be controlled by the God of Decay and Death. Once trapped inside, one’s life force is continuously drained until death arrives."
"...You are truly knowledgeable, Lady Annie."
A flicker of surprise crossed Pan Mo’s face, as if he hadn’t expected Annie to recognize it.
"I still need to figure out how to deal with those pursuers. Time is short, so I won’t chat any longer, Lady Annie."
With that said, Pan Mo disappeared behind the throne again.
Gu Lin was completely bewildered, still unable to make sense of the situation. She turned her head and saw that Annie had already sat down on the floor.
"Annie, what’s going on?"
Annie stretched and said, "Didn’t you hear him? We just have bad luck. We stumbled into a trap he set for someone else."
"I didn’t expect him to think of using the divine creatures to activate the Cyan Flame Divine Domain here, though. That kind of insight and knowledge is rather admirable. It seems he’s not far from advancing to a Rule Wizard."
Gu Lin couldn’t help but roll her eyes. ’Is this really the time to be admiring someone?’
’The priority right now should be figuring out how to escape.’
As if sensing Gu Lin’s thoughts, Annie said nonchalantly, "Don’t entertain any pointless fantasies. Once you’re trapped in the Cyan Flame Divine Domain, not even a high-level Divine Spirit can escape."
Gu Lin was stunned. "Th-Then what do we do?"
"The restraints of the Cyan Flame Divine Domain are powerful, but its corresponding weakness is that it’s easily broken from the outside. As long as someone helps us, getting out will be easy."
Gu Lin’s expression froze.
Besides them, there was only Pan Mo here, and he obviously wasn’t going to help them escape.
"We wait."
Annie shrugged.
"With my power, I’ll have no problem protecting you in the Cyan Flame Divine Domain for a decade or two. Let’s just hope reinforcements arrive in the meantime."
