Chapter 479: Chapter 240: Cyan Flame Divine Domain

Across a boundless wasteland, a colossal beast resembling a cross between a crocodile and a dragon trudged slowly forward. The terrifying aura radiating from its massive body made every demon they passed shrink back in fear, not daring to approach.

Perched on the beast’s back were two stunningly beautiful women.

Staring at the unchanging scenery, Gu Lin, who had been enduring the entire journey, finally couldn’t take it anymore. She spoke up, asking, "Annie, where exactly are we going? How much longer will this take?"

"We’re almost there. Just be a little more patient."

Annie smiled faintly, toying with a claw that seemed to have been pulled from the talon of some wild beast.

Gu Lin glanced at the claw.

Ever since they encountered a beast that was part tiger, part wolf five days ago, Annie had been acting this way. She was constantly lost in thought, holding the claw she’d taken from the creature, and Gu Lin had no idea what she was plotting.

"So secretive," Gu Lin muttered.

Annie acted as if she hadn’t heard, her gaze fixed on the path ahead.

They traveled for another half a day. Just as Gu Lin was about to ask again, Annie suddenly spoke.

"We’re here."

The beast beneath them obediently came to a halt.

"Hm?"

Gu Lin sat up straight and scanned her surroundings, but all she saw was sand and jagged, strange-looking rocks. There was nothing of note.

The young woman looked at Annie, puzzled.

The Vampire Wizard smiled. She pointed a finger, and a visible ripple instantly spread through the empty air before them. Two or three hundred meters away, it seemed to collide with an invisible barrier, shuddering violently before shattering.

An invisible barrier shattered along with it.

A massive, dark cave mouth instantly appeared before Gu Lin’s eyes.

"That is..."

Gu Lin’s eyes widened in astonishment.

The cave mouth was impossibly deep and dark, like a predator’s gaping maw waiting for unsuspecting prey to wander in.

More importantly, Gu Lin could clearly feel a dense aura of death seeping out from the entrance.

This aura reminded her of the beast they had seen the other day. The two auras seemed to share the same origin.

"Annie, what is going on?" The young woman could no longer contain her confusion and curiosity, turning to ask.

This time, Annie didn’t keep her in suspense. She held up the claw and chuckled. "What we encountered the other day was actually a divine being."

"A divine being?" Gu Lin’s expression tensed.

Of course, she knew what a divine being was.

Seeing how easily Annie had dispatched the creature, she had assumed it was just some ordinary monster. She never would have guessed it was a legendary divine being.

Now, as she looked at the dark cave mouth again, a thoughtful expression crossed Gu Lin’s face.

"That divine being contained a trace of death-related divinity."

A strange glint flashed in Annie’s eyes.

"The Rule of Death, unlike rules such as Elements or Shadow, is one of the most powerful in the Multiverse. The same goes for its associated divine offices and divinity."

"Because of its power, anyone who successfully masters a divine office related to death immediately gains immense strength, becoming a Middle-tier Deity at the very least."

"The existing Divine Spirits in the lineage of death usually start by mastering divine offices with only a tenuous connection to it—like Decay or War. They use that as a starting point to gradually encroach upon the domain of death, until they finally incorporate Death itself into their divine office."

Hearing this, Gu Lin was beginning to understand.

"You mean it’s impossible for a divine being that contains death-related divinity to exist."

Annie glanced at Gu Lin, a hint of appreciation in her eyes.

"Exactly. Setting aside how rare it is for death-related divinity to occur naturally, even if it did, given its power, that divine being would be far more than a mere fifth-tier creature."

"But why...?"

Gu Lin’s brow furrowed.

’If it’s impossible, then what was that divine being from before?’

Annie smiled. "A divine being with death-related divinity is unlikely to be born naturally, but it’s not impossible to create one."

Gu Lin immediately understood. "A Death Deity?"

"Correct." Annie’s gaze was profound as she stared at the dark cave mouth. "That divine being was likely created by a Death Deity. An existence similar to a Prayerer."

"A Prayerer?" Gu Lin fell into a new state of confusion. "But aren’t Prayerers unable to leave a Divine Kingdom?"

"Normally, yes. However, these Prayerers are a rare type that possess divinity within their bodies, which allows them to move freely in the outside world. But that’s the extent of it. After one or two thousand years at most, they too will be unable to sustain themselves and will perish."

"Then why don’t they return to the Divine Kingdom... Ah!"

Gu Lin cut herself off mid-sentence, her eyes widening as she stared at the dark cave mouth.

’There could only be one reason a Prayerer couldn’t return to its Divine Kingdom—the Divine Kingdom had already been destroyed!’

’The Death Deity who created them had undoubtedly fallen.’

’So, what lay hidden inside that dark cave... the answer was obvious.’

"The Array here is set up quite cleverly. If I hadn’t chanced upon that divine being and obtained this claw as a guide, I would never have found this place."

A strange glint flashed in Annie’s eyes.

"However, the fall of a Divine Spirit is usually no small affair. The fact that it went undiscovered by the local Demon Lords suggests that when this Death Deity fell, the Wanyuan Plain likely didn’t have any Demon Lords yet. It was probably even before Broken Domain Town was established."

Gu Lin was secretly astonished.

’Before Broken Domain Town was even established?’
