After the Divorce, My Wife and I Were Both Reborn
Chapter 254 - 252: Ah Xia Only Knows How to Torment Me
Chapter 254: Chapter 252: Ah Xia Only Knows How to Torment Me
In the taxi, Li Weiya gazed out the window, her curiosity piqued by the bustling skyscrapers of the Imperial Capital. The city had changed so much in the last twenty years.
"So, have you gotten used to college life yet?" she asked, turning to look at Jiang Xia.
Jiang Xia thought for a moment before replying, "It’s not really a matter of getting used to it or not. You have to adapt to any new place to live well."
Li Weiya was taken aback for a moment. ’That’s not the kind of mindset you’d expect from a college freshman.’ But then again, it was just like him. Otherwise, he never would have been able to start a company at such a young age.
"Ah Xia, where are you taking me? To the office?"
"Let’s go to the hotel first so you can get settled. We’ll figure things out after that. Then I’ll call Ah Ming to come over, and we can all have dinner together."
Jiang Xia didn’t believe for a second that Li Weiya was just in the Imperial Capital for a vacation. After she was settled, he’d have to find a suitable apartment for her to rent near Tsinghua Science Park.
She nodded. It wasn’t exactly convenient to be running around everywhere while dragging a suitcase.
"So, how are things with the studio?" she asked.
Jiang Xia gave a hollow laugh. "The office space is secured, but the official paperwork to move the company is still being processed. I just posted the job listings yesterday, and a few people sent in their résumés, but I didn’t think they were a good fit, so I didn’t call them in for interviews. But now that you’re here, Godmom, you can help with hiring."
Hearing this, Li Weiya couldn’t help but roll her eyes. ’I knew it would be like this.’ Even when he used to call her "Auntie," he never treated her like a stranger. Now that he was calling her "Godmom," he was probably going to exploit her even more ruthlessly.
Still, she had come to the Imperial Capital specifically to help him.
Just as Ah Xia had said, without her help, it would probably be a long time before the studio could get up and running properly.
"Mm... fine," Li Weiya agreed with a nod. "When you get a chance, hand the relevant work over to me. I’ll do whatever I can."
Jiang Xia was ecstatic. "Thanks, Godmom! You’re the best!"
"Enough with the sweet talk," she chided with a laugh. "I was hoping to relax for a couple of days."
"Hehe, you’re in the Imperial Capital now! There’ll be plenty of time for fun later. I’ll even be your personal tour guide, Godmom!"
"Alright, alright, I was just teasing," Li Weiya said. "The priority right now is to get the studio on its feet."
Strictly speaking, she was now working for Jiang Xia. The tasks of hiring people and managing the company were exactly what a project director like her was supposed to do.
A short while later, the taxi pulled over near Tsinghua Science Park. The area was adjacent to several universities and had no shortage of hotels.
"Godmom, the office is in that building right there," Jiang Xia explained. "Fifteenth floor. See those windows on the right, near the middle?"
Li Weiya tilted her head back, following his finger. The entire floor was a glass curtain wall, promising a wide, open view. ’And this being the Imperial Capital, the interior must be excellent.’
"If we have time later, I’ll take you up for a tour."
She gave a slight nod.
They booked a hotel near the southeast gate of Tsinghua University. A room with a king-size bed cost a little over 200 yuan a night. From the window, you could see both Tsinghua University and Tsinghua Science Park—the location was fantastic.
Jiang Xia went ahead and booked the room for a full week. Li Weiya said with a resigned sigh, "A whole week? Are you afraid I’m going to run off?"
"Hehe, just stay here for now, Godmom. I’ll help you find an apartment to rent in the meantime."
’Such impeccable service. He might as well just build a shrine for me.’
He glanced at the time. It was just past five o’clock, so Lin Yanwan wasn’t out of class yet. He sent her a text telling her to come to the office later.
At the same time, he sent a text to Old Wang, telling him they had important matters to discuss and to hurry over to the Science Park after class.
"Godmom, I told Yanwan and Ah Ming to come over as soon as their classes are done. But you’ll have to hide at first and then pop out. That’s the only way it’ll be a real surprise."
"Alright, whatever you say."
Li Weiya smiled and nodded. As a woman approaching forty, she didn’t really care about surprises, but if he wanted to have some fun, she was happy to play along.
"So, shall we head to the office first?"
"Okay."
The two of them left the hotel and walked toward the nearby Tsinghua Science Park. The walk to the base of the office building took less than five minutes.
Once inside the elevator, Jiang Xia pressed the button for the fifteenth floor. As the elevator began its ascent, he fished out a key, unclipped it from his keychain, and handed it to Li Weiya.
"Godmom, this is the key to the office. You should hold onto it. I probably won’t be able to come over that often, so I’ll need you to keep an eye on things most of the time."
She gave a small nod.
Setting aside the matter of ownership, she really did seem more like the boss than Jiang Xia sometimes.
A dozen seconds flew by, and the elevator doors slid open. Jiang Xia led Li Weiya to the office entrance. Through the two glass doors, they could clearly see the clean white walls inside.
He took out his key, unlocked the door, and added, "This area by the entrance will be the reception desk. We’ll need to put the Qitian Animation name and logo on that back wall, but... there’s nothing here for now."
"One step at a time," Li Weiya said with a small smile.
As they stepped into the office, they could smell a faint, fresh fragrance.
He had asked the Science Park manager yesterday to arrange for a cleaning service, and sure enough, the office was much cleaner today. They had probably used some air freshener, too.
He counted thirty partitioned desks in the main open area. Once they were arranged into sections based on department and job function, it would finally start to feel like a real office.
In addition, there were several other rooms of various sizes that could be used as a conference room, an archive room, a finance office, a break room, a recording studio, and an office for the boss.
"Not bad at all," Li Weiya said after looking around.
It might be nothing but empty desks and chairs right now, but once they brought in the necessary equipment and decorated it properly, the place would look completely different.
Having worked in the art industry for over a decade, she knew a thing or two about interior design. An image of the finished space was already forming in her mind.
"Godmom, as you can see, on top of hiring, I’ll probably need you to handle procurement too. All purchases can go through the company account. Buy the best equipment you can find—computers, printers, voice-over gear, everything."
Jiang Xia had built an animation studio in his past life, so he knew the whole process. But, as always, the issue was time. He didn’t have much of it. If he handed the task to Li Weiya, with her vast resources, she could undoubtedly get it done both quickly and efficiently.
Li Weiya nodded with a sense of resignation. ’This kid. He loves to dump things on me, just like always.’
’Now I finally see why he was so insistent on me being his godmother.’ An ordinary person couldn’t possibly sort all this out in such a short time. Not only would it be incredibly time-consuming, but they’d probably waste a ton of money in the process.
"Fine, I’ll see who I can contact. But for the recording studio and the feature wall at the reception, we’ll definitely need to hire a professional design and renovation company. What I can do is prioritize getting the studio operational."
"Thanks, Mom!"
’Great. Now he’s even dropped the "God" part.’
