After the Divorce, My Wife and I Were Both Reborn
Chapter 253 - 251: Godmother
Chapter 253: Chapter 251: Godmother
"Ah Xia, I’m in the Imperial Capital!"
Jiang Xia jolted at her words. He swallowed hard, his face a mask of disbelief. ’She was at home just last night, and now she’s in the Imperial Capital? Is she kidding me?’
"Aunt Li, for real?"
"Mm... I haven’t deplaned yet, but we’ve already landed. And wow, the airport in the Imperial Capital is huge." Li Weiya smiled unconsciously as she peered out the small window.
"Here, listen to this. Can you hear anything?"
Jiang Xia held his breath. Faintly, through the phone’s earpiece, he could hear the RUMBLE of the plane taxiing on the runway. It seemed she really was in the Imperial Capital.
"So it’s really true..." He clicked his tongue, thoroughly surprised.
"Haha, believe me now?" Li Weiya chuckled. ’He’s this surprised already. I wonder if he’ll jump for joy when he actually sees me in a bit?’
"Aunt Li, which airport are you at? I’ll come pick you up right now," Jiang Xia said.
"No, don’t worry about it. You focus on your classes. I’m a grown woman, are you afraid I’ll get lost?"
"I don’t have class this afternoon."
"For real? You’re not just saying that to skip class and pick me up, are you?"
"Why would I lie? I’m in my dorm drawing storyboards as we speak."
Li Weiya checked the time. It was 3:18 in the afternoon. ’If he had class, he definitely wouldn’t be in his dorm room.’
"Alright then. I’m at Capital International Airport. The plane is slowing down, but it’ll probably still be a little while before I can get out of the terminal."
"You got it! I’m on my way. Wait for me, Aunt Li."
After hanging up, she felt a thrill of excitement at the thought of seeing Jiang Xia soon.
"Nanny Su, I have to head out. I probably won’t be back for dinner tonight," Jiang Xia said as he got himself ready.
"Okay, go on." Su Qing nodded. He had overheard Jiang Xia’s phone call.
After leaving the dorm building, Jiang Xia sent a message to Lin Yanwan. He just said he had to go out for a while but didn’t mention why, planning to surprise her later.
Fortunately, Tsinghua wasn’t far from Capital International Airport—only about thirty kilometers. With no traffic, the drive would take roughly half an hour.
He practically ran out of the dorm’s north gate, the closest exit, and immediately hailed a taxi on the street, heading for Capital International Airport.
He was incredibly excited at the thought of seeing Li Weiya so soon. He was in the middle of restructuring the studio and was desperately short-staffed. With a powerhouse like Li Weiya on his side, he could delegate so much to her—like the most pressing task at hand, recruitment.
"Sir, could you please drive a little faster? I’m in a hurry."
The taxi driver said nothing, only nodding before stepping on the gas. The car picked up speed noticeably.
He arrived at the airport at exactly four in the afternoon. Following the signs on the information screen, he made his way to the arrivals exit. His heart began to beat faster as he watched the steady stream of people emerging.
"Aunt Li, where are you? Are you out of the terminal?" Jiang Xia asked into the phone, taking a deep breath.
"You’re there already?" Li Weiya sounded slightly surprised. ’That little rascal is quick. Is he really that eager to see me?’
"Yeah."
She glanced up at a sign—the arrivals hall was right in front of her—but she deliberately said, "Mm... it’ll probably be a little while longer."
"Alright, I’ll be waiting right at the exit."
"See you in a bit," she said with a smile.
Jiang Xia suppressed his excitement and began watching the diverse crowd around him.
A few minutes later, someone tapped him lightly on the shoulder.
Jiang Xia turned around instinctively and found himself face-to-face with Li Weiya. She was wearing a slim-fitting, beige, open-knit dress that hugged her figure, carrying a black handbag in her left hand and pulling a suitcase with her right. With her high heels and a cascade of wavy hair, she had the distinct aura of a beautiful, sophisticated woman.
"You cut your hair! I almost didn’t recognize you. And you’ve gotten a tan," Li Weiya said with a beaming smile. "But you look very handsome. Much more masculine than before."
Jiang Xia blinked, then suddenly stepped forward and gave her a quick hug.
Li Weiya froze for a moment. But before she could even react, Jiang Xia had already let go, and she couldn’t help but breathe a sigh of relief.
"Aunt Li, I thought you said it would be a little while longer. How did you get out so early?"
"Haha, I wanted to surprise you. Happy?"
"You might be happy, but I was over here waiting all pitifully," he said with a hint of resignation in his voice.
"Hahaha..."
Watching her laugh so heartily, Jiang Xia understood. She must have left the terminal a while ago and was just making him wait on purpose to surprise him.
"Where’s Ah Ming? I don’t see him." He reached out to take Li Weiya’s suitcase.
"He has class this afternoon, so I didn’t call him. We can definitely ask him to come out and join us tonight, though," Li Weiya said with a smile.
"Oh."
’So I’m the only one here to pick her up, huh? Thinking about it that way, I guess I’m pretty important to her.’
"Aunt Li, you have no idea how long I’ve been waiting for this day. You’re finally here! But... I thought you were in Wanzhou. What suddenly made you change your mind?" Jiang Xia asked curiously as he led Li Weiya toward the exit.
"Hmph. What are you getting at? I came to the Imperial Capital for a vacation, to relax. Not to help you manage a company," Li Weiya teased.
"Oh no, Aunt Li! What would I do without you? Please, I’m begging you, take pity on your poor son and help him out."
He immediately put on a pitiful expression and pleaded. Building a proper studio wasn’t like just throwing together a makeshift team like before. The hiring process alone was a huge headache, to say nothing of everything else.
"Be serious! What is all this nonsense?" Li Weiya scoffed. ’Could this guy be any more shameless? First the hug, and now he’s calling himself my son. He doesn’t act like a company boss at all!’
But contrary to her expectations, Jiang Xia just gave her a cheeky grin.
"Aunt Li, think about it. Ah Ming and I are so close, you’ve watched me grow up, you taught me how to draw, and you’ve taken such good care of me at work. We may not be related by blood, but our bond is like a mother and son’s. I may call you ’Aunt,’ but in my heart, I’ve considered you my mom for a long time. So how about it? Why don’t you just take me as your godson? Then Ah Ming and I would be brothers."
Jiang Xia looked into her eyes. "Godmother, I’m serious."
’From his perspective, Li Weiya was already his godmother. In the future, they would all be one big family, which would make Qitian Animation practically a family business. Surely now she’d have to help him wholeheartedly, right?’
’It was killing two birds with one stone.’
Li Weiya’s breath caught in her throat. Come to think of it, this was the second time Jiang Xia had brought this up. She’d already refused him once before. After all, who just goes around asking people to be their mother?
’Deep down, she was actually quite willing—it would mean their relationship would grow even closer. But... just accepting a godson out of the blue... would his actual mother even approve?’
"Godmother, if you don’t say anything, I’m going to take that as a yes."
Li Weiya’s heart lurched. ’What difference would it make if I said anything? He’s already called me that twice.’
