Chapter 255: Chapter 253: Lin Yanwan: Hiding a Beauty in a Golden House?

With some of the key tasks on his plate handed off, Jiang Xia finally felt a weight lift from his shoulders.

With Li Weiya’s help, the studio would be on the right track by the end of the month, and production on the third season of Cat and Mouse could get underway soon.

The two meticulously discussed every aspect of the company’s future plans. For instance, on the topic of whether to maintain a team of professional voice actors, Li Weiya believed that in the initial startup phase, they could outsource the voice work to external studios.

Jiang Xia considered this. As long as the team was large enough, Qitian Animation’s projects could be produced like an assembly line. With countless classic works in his head, he wouldn’t have to worry about any so-called downtime; he could even produce several animated series simultaneously.

In that case, maintaining a professional voice acting team would be essential. Otherwise, if there were scheduling conflicts with the voice actors, it would be difficult to keep up with production demands.

After all, outsourcing was never as reliable as doing it in-house.

Then there was 3D animation and techniques like 3D-to-2D rendering. In this era, these were still relatively uncharted territories globally. If they could get a head start on developing an animation engine, they could capture the largest possible share of the future market.

This also showed just how ambitious Jiang Xia was. He wanted to build a comprehensive animation empire.

Before they knew it, it was already six in the evening. In the Imperial Capital in late September, the sky was already beginning to darken.

First, Jiang Xia got a call from Lin Yanwan. Then, Wang Ming called to say he was on his way.

In about ten minutes, the original team would be all together. Well... not quite. Shen Ying was still missing, but she handled operations, which wasn’t directly related to the creative side.

Li Weiya stood before the floor-to-ceiling window, looking down at the tiny pedestrians and vehicles on the road. A wave of boldness suddenly washed over her. She couldn’t believe that at almost forty, she had resolutely left her hometown to start a business with a group of young people.

But the thought that her old dream might be realized here still filled her with excitement.

"Godmother, they should be here soon," Jiang Xia reminded her.

"Should I go hide then?"

Li Weiya smiled, walked into the innermost office, and gently closed the door.

Sure enough, Lin Yanwan arrived a few minutes later. She was slightly out of breath, and tiny beads of sweat dotted the sides of her delicate nose. She must have jogged all the way here.

"What did you call me here for?"

Lin Yanwan looked around. She had thought he’d run out that afternoon to buy a bunch of things and needed her help organizing, but there was nothing. The place looked the same as before, though it did seem much cleaner.

"I’m introducing you to someone in a bit." Jiang Xia chuckled, reaching out to gently wipe the sweat from her delicate nose. "You haven’t eaten, have you?"

"I ran over as soon as class ended. I even had Qiuting take my books back for me." Lin Yanwan shot him a glare, found a chair to sit in, and fanned her collar with her hand. She was dying from the heat.

"So, what did you really call me over for? Is someone coming for an interview?"

Jiang Xia twisted the cap off a bottle of mineral water, handed it to her, and nodded with a smile. "Something like that."

"Oh."

Lin Yanwan tilted her head back and took a few sips, revealing her slender, swan-like neck. The water soothed her, but she couldn’t help thinking that scheduling an interview after six was pretty grim.

Then again, it couldn’t be helped. They both had classes during the day.

"What position? I’m telling you now, I can’t interview for a technical role."

"Erm... You’ll know when you see."

Lin Yanwan frowned slightly. Seeing his secretive expression, she silently guessed it must be an administrative position to help her with her tasks.

"By the way, what were you up to this afternoon?"

"Went out to meet someone and talk about a few things." Jiang Xia glanced at the corner room out of the corner of his eye. Li Weiya was well hidden.

"What? Punk, you’ve changed. When did you become such a riddler with me?" Lin Yanwan said, staring into his eyes.

’A riddler?’ Hiding in the corner, Li Weiya covered her mouth and stifled a laugh. ’This young couple’s daily banter is quite amusing.’

"Uh... Have I not been like this before?"

"You have, but usually when you’re preparing a surprise for me. So... what’s the surprise?" She tilted her head, looking playful and cute.

But she couldn’t figure out what kind of surprise would require her to come to this place.

"..."

Jiang Xia’s mouth twitched. ’As expected of a couple who shared a bed for eight years,’ he thought. ’She knows me through and through.’

"A person."

Lin Yanwan rolled her eyes. That was as good as saying nothing.

"A woman?"

"Uh... yes."

Her brow furrowed. ’What the hell? He specifically called me here to meet a woman?’

"Hiding your mistress in a love nest? It’s not your side piece, is it?" she asked suspiciously.

Li Weiya was speechless.

’I really shouldn’t have hidden,’ she suddenly thought. ’If this causes some big misunderstanding, it’s going to be a huge problem.’

Jiang Xia didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. He reached out and tweaked her cute nose. "My dearest darling, what are you thinking? Can your brain be a little more normal? I’m completely and utterly devoted to you, and you still suspect me?"

"Hmph, you’d better be. If I’m not satisfied in a bit, I’ll chop it off!" she said viciously, her eyes glancing down at his crotch.

Jiang Xia felt an inexplicable pang of guilt. ’If Godmother saw this, would she think we’re being indecent?’

"Ahem, don’t worry, don’t worry. I guarantee you’ll be satisfied."

The two chatted quietly. Jiang Xia secretly reached for his wife’s hand again. He hadn’t gotten to hold it all afternoon, and he missed it. Not long after, Wang Ming arrived.

"Old Jiang, what’d you call me over for?"

Hearing her son’s voice, Li Weiya felt a surge of excitement. She peeked out, just her eyes showing.

Wang Ming now had short hair and his skin was much darker than before, but he looked more energetic.

Lin Yanwan, however, was even more confused. ’Isn’t this an interview? Why is Old Wang here too?’

"Ahem, now that everyone’s here, I’d like to make a grand introduction of a familiar, heavyweight figure—"

He paused abruptly, turning to Old Wang with a grin. "Guess who?"

A familiar, heavyweight figure...

Wang Ming frowned slightly, puzzled. "My mom?"

Jiang Xia was speechless.

Seeing the stunned look on his face, Wang Ming asked in disbelief, "No way, it’s really my mom?"

Jiang Xia nodded helplessly. His own wife had guessed for ages and gotten nowhere, yet he got it right in one second. ’What is this, the legendary telepathy between mother and son?’

Before Jiang Xia could call her out, Li Weiya opened the door herself and walked out gracefully.

Suppressing the thrill of seeing her son again, she smiled.

"Ah Ming, Yanwan, I’m here."
