Chapter 370: A Stony Encounter

Violet blinked away as a massive pillar of earth shot at her from the side, it slammed into the far wall of the tunnel a moment later with a cataclysmic boom.

The impact was such that even the heavily reinforced stone that made up the walls of this cave system trembled violently, small chunks of rock being dislodged from the ceiling.

A thread of void energy snaked out from Violet’s extended domain as dozens of void bolts and spears shot off in all directions.

Still her barrage held no success and she was forced to dodge once again as yet another stone pillar shot out towards her.

Her domain manifested in its path, a rune instantly forming in the pillars path before a net of void theads formed in the pillars way.

When the stone impacted the threads the rune flaired to purple brilliance for a moment as its effect was applied to the threads, this effect in particular being that of sharpness.

The pillar did pass straight through the net of void, yet not because it overpowered Violet’s magics. No, it passed straight past because it was so effortlessly cut to pieces, the pillars form shattering a short distance from Violet’s threads and falling to the floor in dozens of smaller pieces.

A reverberating growl echoed out from somewhere, Violet grinned internally as she once more unleashed a barrage of attacks in every direction.

She had just been wandering down a random tunnel, not exactly having any clear idea for which direction she should be moving in other than a general direction.

She had run into countless dead ends and tunnels that ended up looping right back around and depositing her back where she started.

In frustration she had unleashed her breath on a random nearby wall, and to her surprise had actually managed to blast it apart, revealing a secondary tunnel.

When Violet poked her head through she managed to catch the briefest of glances at a large beast, it was clearly a sovereign like Violet yet this one seemed to be able to effortlessly swim through the near impenetrable stone.

A fewt that the beast instantly resorted to as it dove downwards into the ground.

From there Violet had been attacked by this neigh uncatchable foe for the past half an hour.

The beast would constantly launch sneak attacks, from pillars of stone to having the ground itself try to swallow her whole.

All the while Violet had been desperately trying to locate the beast, determined to find and eliminate the beast that so brazenly attacked her.

By this point Violet had managed to successfully etch dozens of runes in reality all around the battlefield as she worked towards her eventual goal of catching the beast outside of the stone.

For whilst her attacks did deal some damage to the stone around then, with her breath attack being able to blast decently large chunks of rock away. The beast was simply too slippery for Violet to land more than superficial wounds that doubtlessly healed in good time.

Meanwhile Violet had already accrued several cuts and bruises from when she failed to avoid one attack or another in time.

In the domain side of things it was strange, the beast clearly had a domain, yet it was seemingly limited to solid earth and stone.

And when in a stone tunnel, well that simply meant that Violet was quite literally fighting within the sovereigns domain, only she had a bubble of ’air’ that was uncontested by the beast.

As such the domain battle was Violet trying to push into the stone around her as she desperately tried to infiltrate the ground to locate the beasts position.

Saddly for Violet it seemed like the very stone itself was bolstering the other beasts control over its domain. As such it was incredibly difficult for her to locate her pray.

Still a simple set back would not be enough to stop Violet from giving a battle her all, hence why she had spent the last 20 minutes of so carefully setting up her array of runes all around the battle.

Meanwhile her void threads were slowly but surely digging into the ground in a dozen different places, snaking back and forth as they sought out any sign of the beast.

Violet could ’feel’ what the threads felt given that she was intrinsically connected to them. This allowed Violet to instantly notice when one of her threads brushed against something decidedly less substantial than the incredibly durable stone.

Violet’s eyes flashed with a purple radiance as dozens of hidden void runes activated in an instant.

Violet’s domain, previously hindered from advancement due to the resistance of the stone and backed by the domain of the other beast sovereign was ruthlessly intruded up.

At the runes activated they sunk into the multitude of void threads that had interwoven through the ground. Her domain surged, following along the threads as they pierced straight through the previously impenetrable borders.

Each thread became a beacon of Violet’s power, thrumming with the nothingness of the void and enabling Violet to finally get her first true sense of what she was fighting against.

Violet blinked in momentary surprise upon sensing what exactly the other beast was, then her gaze hardened once again as she unleashed her full array of skills.

Her mouth opened, purple radiance spilling out as the void answered her call. A rune rapidly formed before her open mouth, a paired rune forming at the end of the singular thread that was in contact with the other beast liking the two together and creating a pathway for the void to traverse.

As Violet unleashed her dragon breath it impacted with the rune before her, the powerful expulsion of void vanishing into its depths.

Only then did the second paired rune flash to life as her breath erupted from it.

The world seemed to shake as the void tore through the opposing beast sovereign. The sturdy stone walls that had once seemed so impenetrable, exploded outwards in a calamitous explosion of purple destruction.

Violet only grinned as she watched the dust cloud slowly disperse to reveal the mutilated corpse of a particularly large mole with a massive hole nearly splitting it in two.
