Chapter 736: The Lion From Hell

VROOOOOMMMMMM!!

A strong gust of wind rattled the whole forest, affecting almost everybody and making them look up at the sky.

There they saw them: Lily and Aerielle locked in a battle of winds, and even above them, the two serpentine beasts were engaged in their own battle.

While the beasts coiled through the air, launching varied attacks, hacking, and biting, the girls fought purely with elemental attacks.

Lily decided to go a little easy and actually enjoyed a fight that was almost even when she limited herself to the wind element.

This was because Aerielle had higher proficiency with her skills, while Lily had higher raw strength.

Leo and others were relaxed because Uraan had just told them that the dragons had indeed attacked the Velerath Academy.

And Leo wasn’t rushing toward the Sunborn stronghold in their absence because, by the time he reached it, Phase 4 would end with Velerath and Elarion destroyed. And according to Fruder, when Phase 4 ended, Aurelius and Sunborn were most likely to receive some kind of protection until the next event because of the mention of ’master points’.

In other words, Leo, Lily, and the others were at ease and treated the destruction of the Elarion stronghold as a cool-off period.

Both girls conjured a swirling mass of concentrated wind and threw it at each other.

VRRROOOOSSSSSHH!

After the collision, another extremely strong gust of wind formed, breaking the nearest tree branches, with some even being uprooted. The people on the ground struggled to stand, and the vines Niri had used to hang them upside down broke. When they hit the ground, they disappeared into white particles.

Any attacks Lily and Aerielle threw cancelled each other out, creating terrible wind gusts.

"Y-you are holding back!" Aerielle said, breathing heavily from physical and mental exhaustion. Her mana had nearly depleted.

"You are right. I didn’t feel the need to use my full force," Lily calmly said while throwing a large wind blade toward Aerielle, which was barely dodged.

Yes, now Aerielle couldn’t generate any more attacks while staying afloat. So she resorted to dodging.

"Ack—buh!" Aerielle winced when a sneaky, small wind blade struck across her collar, nearly decapitating her.

"My bad habit is starting to show..." Lily said, placing one hand over her lips as she giggled.

She said that because she had already launched multiple sneaky wind blades that had struck Aerielle across her limbs, but before the elf could register the pain, she was teleported away with a finishing blow.

Lily didn’t want Aerielle to suffer needlessly.

In the sky, Solvyr had also managed to completely suppress the Wind Wyrm, wrap himself around it, and bite its long mouth shut, using the complete advantage of having two necks.

But when Aerielle disappeared, the beast disappeared alongside her.

The next second, Leo crushed the Stronghold beacon, finishing the job as everybody from Elarion disappeared in white particles.

At the Velerath Stronghold...

ROOOAAARRRRRRR!!

GRRROOOAAAARRR!!

Two simultaneous roars echoed across the sky, where two beings fought fiercely.

One was clearly a dragon with a golden sheen beneath its scales and golden horns, suggesting it was a Son-Flame Dragon. The other was a 9-foot humanoid man-lion with long, lion-like crimson hair, black claws, and fangs.

It was none other than Darren’s soul fused with his Lion beast.

In the distance, Vorthak and Vulcarion battled a huge black gryphon.

It was Darren’s second beast.

It had obsidian feathers, silver talons, and a glowing violet crest running from its forehead down its neck. Its wings distorted space slightly whenever it flew, allowing it to appear at random places at random intervals and annoy both dragons.

The Gryphon was actually lower-ranked than both dragons, but it used its teleportation abilities to keep them engaged while Darren fought Azrakar.

"HUMAN! Your effort is worthless!" Azrakar shouted as he launched a breath attack at Darren, who was mid-fall.

Darren simply grinned, and the next moment, he disappeared, reappeared above Azrakar, and fell onto him.

"I don’t see it as a reason to surrender and lift my arms up!" Darren shouted back as five aura orbs formed around him, then shot toward Azrakar.

"ARGH!"

Azrakar was hit by the five beams, sending him through the sky as Darren teleported again and appeared above Azrakar’s falling frame.

BAM!

He delivered a punch to the dragon’s back, making it arch.

But before another punch could land, Azrakar rolled, making Darren fall again.

But this time, Azrakar lunged, bored his claws through Darren’s torso and flapped his wings hard, diving down at full force.

On the ground, several people, both dragons and humans, were fighting.

Azrakar’s eyes glowed brightly as countless magic circles began to form high up in the sky. Through them came searing-hot fireballs, each big enough to be classified as a small-sized meteor, propelling downward alongside him, with Darren still clamped in his claws.

The humanoid and hybrid dragons immediately fled the scene, leaving the humans baffled, but it was already too late for them to realise why.

When they looked up at the sky, they only saw their end.

DHAM—THUUUUSSS!

The first meteor struck, and even though it didn’t hit a human directly, the spreading flames engulfed a couple of them. The searing heat burned them alive before they disappeared into white particles.

And then it began.

DHUM! DHUM! DHUM! DHUM!

The meteors struck the area like a disaster, defeating the Velerath Stronghold students one after another and destroying their stronghold.

Azrakar smashed Darren into the ground and then breathed sun flames directly into his face.

To everybody’s surprise, Darren still wasn’t defeated through all that—even when Azrakar increased the breath intensity so much that the molten rocks on the ground turned liquid enough to flow.

When the breath stopped—not because Azrakar was out of steam, but because he was baffled by Darren’s resilience and wanted to see what was happening—the raging crimson flames, or rather, aura, filled the area almost instantly.

Azrakar’s face hardened instantly, as the aura had a corrosive effect that made him feel like thin needles were striking him beneath his scales.

Darren still wasn’t defeated, even after countless bones were broken in the fall, dragon claws pierced his torso, and sun-flame breath blasted directly into his face.

And he actually fought back even after all that.

He grabbed the dragon’s claws embedded in his torso and forcibly pushed them back.

ROOOOOAAAAARRRRRR!!!

He roared, and Azrakar was pushed back until his entire claw came free.

The roar seemed to be some kind of skill that boosted Darren’s strength while also affecting the weaker enemies in the area, as shown by the humanoid dragons flinching.

But Azrakar wasn’t weak.

In the distance, the Gryphon had run out of mana from teleporting and was soon defeated by the dragon duo. They immediately rushed toward Azrakar—as both had firsthand experience that humans should not be underestimated.

"GO DESTROY THE BEACON!" Azrakar commanded, and they immediately departed.

"I commend your strength, human. But this is the end."

At that moment, Azrakar’s fangs turned so hot that they began emitting the sun’s radiant heat. He drove them directly into Darren’s chest and head, defeating him in an instant.
