Chapter 422: Chapter 422: Unless We Live Together (2)
Shelby Fenton’s face was ghastly pale, her eyes practically shooting flames. ’Seraphina Sterling! It was Seraphina Sterling again! And Genevieve Churchill! Those two country bumpkins were always getting in her way. She had gone to so much trouble, finally getting everyone to focus on her again, finally becoming the object of everyone’s envy once more. And now, after they’d made a mess of things, it was all back to square one. She was a joke all over again!’
But this time, no one was in the mood to care about Shelby Fenton’s feelings. Genevieve Churchill’s words made everyone pause and reflect. Had they been placing too much importance on trivial matters, while ignoring the things that were truly important? Everyone has a bit of vanity. They like being praised and being the center of attention—that’s human nature, and it doesn’t change easily.
But perhaps it wasn’t necessary to take it all so seriously. Whether you had suitors or not didn’t really mean anything. Behind all that chasing, there was nothing but vanity.
"Come on, come on, ladies!" Seraphina Sterling called out. "Whether you have suitors or not, whether you’re single or already taken, if you like flowers, come and get some for yourselves! Just think of it as a gift to yourself! Being in a good mood is what’s most important! These flowers are meant to be enjoyed, so let’s make the most of them!" With Seraphina’s cry, the classroom’s atmosphere became lively again, the heavy mood from before completely swept away. Everyone crowded around the professor’s desk and divided up the 666 red roses.
The so-called "Eldest Miss of the Fenton Family," the "heiress of a wealthy clan"—all of it was once again forgotten by the crowd. When Shelby Fenton went up against Seraphina Sterling, she was destined to be trampled. No matter how unwilling Shelby Fenton was to accept it, there was nothing she could do to win back this round.
The bell for class rang again. The old professor saw the rose stems on nearly every student’s desk. He just furrowed his brow, said nothing, and continued his lecture. Seraphina Sterling and Genevieve Churchill, however, started their own little meeting.
"Who sent these flowers? The timing was so perfect!" Genevieve Churchill whispered. "If I didn’t know you better—know that you’d never waste money on something like this—I would have sworn you ordered them from a florist yourself!" Even being in class couldn’t stop her from chasing down some gossip.
Seraphina Sterling rolled her eyes at her. "Of course I didn’t order them. That was over a thousand yuan! That’s enough money for us to eat hot fish stew for a week! I have no idea who sent them, either. There was a card, but it might as well have been blank. There wasn’t a single clue!"
Genevieve Churchill looked at the writing on the light pink card. "’Hello, Seraphina Sterling!’ See? It’s not totally useless. At the very least, we can tell this person knows you! And they found out what was happening so quickly—they must be from our university. Maybe even in this class? What if this person also can’t stand Shelby Fenton’s disgusting attitude and decided to help us teach her a lesson on the sly?"
"It’s possible, but not very likely," Seraphina countered. "If they really couldn’t stand Shelby Fenton’s behavior, why didn’t they say anything just now? Someone who can afford to spend this much on flowers must come from a wealthy family, so they shouldn’t be afraid of Shelby Fenton. But it was only the two of us in that war of words with her. It’s a total contradiction. So, it’s probably not someone in this classroom."
That had been Seraphina Sterling’s first guess, too, but after thinking it through a little more, she had dismissed the idea.
"Well, it still has to be a student from our university, right? I just saw someone post about this whole thing on the school forum, and only students here would pay that much attention to it. But you don’t really have any other super-close friends! Could it be Nadia Chapman? I know she’s slaving away for you at the company, but maybe she took a minute to slack off, browsed the school forum, saw that peacock Shelby Fenton, and decided to help you get even?" She was the only person Genevieve Churchill could think of.
