Chapter 421: Chapter 421: Unless We Live Together (Part 1)
"That’s me. Can I help...?" Seraphina Sterling trailed off as she watched the staff member scurry outside. He returned, struggling to carry in a massive bouquet of red roses, and she was suddenly at a loss for words. ’There have to be hundreds of them, right? And I feel for the delivery guy. With his slight frame, how on earth did he get such a huge bouquet all the way from the flower shop? What an ordeal!’
"Sterling, could you please sign for this? A gentleman ordered six hundred and sixty-six red roses for you!" the staff member said, considerate enough to have a pen ready. "I just need your signature on the order slip."
Seraphina Sterling finally snapped out of her daze and calmly signed her name. Only she knew how her mind was racing. ’Who on earth is this angel, playing along so perfectly? Shelby Fenton just finished accusing me of badmouthing her out of jealousy because no one pursued me or sent me flowers, and now, not even fifty minutes later, someone shows up to vindicate me—and in such a huge way! This is more than just a slap in the face; it’s a total knockout. Who is this wonderful person?’
Seraphina was ecstatic, but her expression didn’t show the slightest hint of excitement. She simply asked calmly, "Did the sender leave a name or a message? Who is this wonderful person? I can’t just accept flowers without knowing who to thank, can I?"
"Oh, the gentleman left a card! You’ll know who it is when you read it." The delivery man maintained a professional smile the entire time. His task complete, he walked out of the classroom under the gaze of every student.
A card? Sure enough, tucked among the six hundred and sixty-six roses was a pale pink card. It read: "Hello, Seraphina Sterling." There was no signature, no well-wishes, and no handwritten note; the words were typed. The sender hadn’t revealed a single thing about themselves—just this one abrupt sentence. No matter how smart Seraphina was, there was no way she could guess the sender’s identity from that alone.
"Well, someone. See that? Now *that’s* what you call a gap!" Genevieve Churchill said, grinning happily. "Let me see your lilies... one, two, three, four... I gave them a quick count, and there are what, about thirty-six stems? Now look at our Seraphina. When her admirer makes a move, it’s six hundred and sixty-six! Your little bouquet can’t even compare! In fact, it’s not even in the same league!"
Genevieve continued, shaking her head as she looked at Shelby Fenton with utter disdain. "And you actually said Seraphina was jealous of you? Do you really think anyone believes a word you say? Our classmates aren’t blind. They have brains, and they can judge right from wrong for themselves. Your slander isn’t going to change the kind of person Seraphina is! It’s not that no one’s pursuing Seraphina; our Seraphina just keeps a low profile. Unlike a certain someone, who wants the whole world to know she has admirers—so many admirers! It’s like if she didn’t make a huge spectacle out of it, she’d be betraying her status as a pampered young heiress!"
With that, Genevieve rolled her eyes. "Honestly, people should be more low-key. There’s no need to show off over every little thing. Why be so vain? At the end of the day, so what if you have admirers? So what if you don’t? None of that matters. Instead of wasting time on pointless things, you should be studying, getting practical experience, and building a foundation for your future career. That’s what’s truly important! Everything else is just fluff."
Seraphina glanced at Genevieve. ’She usually seems so carefree and boisterous,’ she thought. ’I never expected her to have such deep insight. It seems her kidnapping really did make her grow up a lot. At the very least, it taught her not to pin all her hopes on others. In this world, there’s no one more reliable than yourself. Only when you’re strong on your own can you face life without fear.’
