Chapter 408: Chapter 408: Resounding Face-Slapping (4)

The moment Seraphina Sterling pushed the door open, a dart came flying at her! Luckily, her reflexes were sharp. She tilted her head and dodged it. The specially made dart lodged itself in the door. "Is this a warm-up for the interview?"

"It’s just a little game! It’s been a while since I’ve been on campus, but then I suddenly heard about Sterling’s heroic feat of defeating the instructor. I found it incredible and just wanted to confirm it for myself!" Hugo Xavier was holding three darts. Clearly, he had been playing this so-called game of his just moments before.

"So what’s your conclusion?" Seraphina Sterling asked, pulling the dart from the door. She looked at the guy sitting on the desk. ’He looks so familiar... but I’m certain I’ve never seen him before!’

"The rumors are true!" As he spoke, another dart flew from his hand. This time, however, Seraphina Sterling didn’t move. The sharp dart grazed past her ear with a WHOOSH and thudded into the door again. She didn’t even blink.

"Thanks for the compliment!" The words had barely left her lips when the dart in Seraphina Sterling’s hand flew out. But unlike him, she wasn’t playing. The dart aimed straight for his eye. If he wasn’t fast enough, he was going to lose it.

But he was no slouch, either. The instant she threw the dart, he flung his upper body back and landed flat on the desk, dodging it just in time. Even so, the sheer killing intent behind the throw sent a chill down his spine. ’She really doesn’t let anything slide, does she!’ "Sterling, are you trying to kill me? Murder is illegal, you know! We’re all students here. If you have an issue, just say it. Why make things so gory?"

"Kill you?" An innocent, shocked look spread across Seraphina Sterling’s face. "Didn’t you just say it was only a game? Killing someone isn’t this easy, or this crude. It seems your mental resilience and your ability to react to sudden events have significant room for improvement. Stock trading isn’t your average line of work. Without a strong mind, it’s easy to break. Without the ability to adapt on the fly, it’s easy to lose everything." Seraphina helpfully imparted her wisdom.

’Crude methods of murder? If that was crude, what would be considered refined? No, wait. Murder is murder. What’s this talk about methods?’ "So, are you saying that I, the club president, don’t have what it takes to trade stocks?" A dark look crossed Hugo Xavier’s face. It felt awful to have his abilities questioned, especially by a prospective member.

’The president?’ Seraphina had guessed the guy held an important position in the stock trading club, but she never imagined he was the president himself! ’And it looks like I’ve really ticked him off.’ Seraphina broke into her first smile since arriving. "No! While you’re not great in those first two areas, there’s a third, most important ability where I’d give you a perfect score."

"Oh? And what’s that?" Hugo Xavier was intrigued. He’d heard plenty of people praise him—handsome, brilliant, witty, decisive—but this was the first time anyone had ever criticized him like this.

"You act when it’s time to act! Your reactions are fast, and you’re decisive enough. It’s just... your composure is lacking just a little. You’re a tad too greedy. And when you sense a major opportunity, you get just a little bit reckless."

At first, Hugo Xavier was pleased, but the more she spoke, the more it felt... off. Was this praise or a lecture? He’d barely gotten a taste of a compliment before she was pointing out another flaw. A scowl formed on his face. "How could you possibly know anything about my character? You’re not a member of my club. We’ve never even met before!"
