Chapter 407: Chapter 407: A Resounding Slap in the Face (3)

Evan Shelton watched as students filed out of the interview room one by one, a somewhat dazed expression on his face.

"Almost all the student leaders here are from wealthy families, and the donations those families make to the school every year are no small sum! A lot of the people here didn’t get in on their own merit! Both the university and our school have a certain level of tolerance for them. You absolutely cannot afford to cross these people. Otherwise, even the dean won’t be able to save you!"

"Since when were you so concerned about me? And just so we’re clear, I have nothing to offer you!" Seraphina Sterling was taken aback by Evan Shelton’s behavior. ’He was the one helping Taylor Sutton scheme against me before. Even though he backed out at the last minute, that doesn’t change the fact that he helped someone try to block my enrollment! I may have let him off the hook, but that was only because he came to his senses at the final moment, not because I was feeling charitable! For him to change so drastically... anyone would be shocked!’

Evan Shelton’s expression soured. "You think I came over to warn you because I have nothing better to do? It’s only because the dean ordered me to. He told me to keep an eye on you and make sure you don’t provoke anyone you can’t afford to. What happened on the first day of school? That was because you provoked someone you shouldn’t have! Your former counselor, Taylor Sutton, might not be from a wealthy family, but he has plenty of connections to them! If you hadn’t pissed someone off, he never would have targeted you!"

"The stock trading club is a little enclave for the children of the elite. You’d be better off not joining. But if you insist, then keep a low profile and don’t make any more enemies. In the eyes of these wealthy kids, the school rules are just a piece of toilet paper! You’d better watch your own back! I’m just here to give you a warning on the dean’s behalf. Tone it down. If you provoke them, no one can save you!"

Evan Shelton turned and left without another word, heading back to the student council’s recruitment table. He paid no more attention to what was happening over here, as if, just as he’d said, he was only passing on the dean’s message and it had nothing to do with him personally.

Seraphina Sterling frowned. ’The dean? How could the dean possibly be so kind as to concern himself with my affairs? The whole exposé at the beginning of the semester should have been a huge scandal for the university, a total loss of face! And it all happened right here in the School of Economics and Management. Didn’t the university leadership chew out the dean over it? I should be grateful he’s not actively trying to make my life miserable, so why would he suddenly be so concerned about me? Unless... did the old man put in a word for me?’

"Seraphina Sterling, you’re next!"

Before she could sort through her thoughts, a club member’s voice interrupted her. She decided to just drop it. ’As long as it doesn’t pose a threat to me, some things are better left unexamined.’ Just as she was about to push the door open, someone called out to her again.

"Wait, not this room. The one at the very end of the hall!"

’The one at the very end?’ Seraphina Sterling paused. ’Don’t tell me it’s true what those people were saying, that the interviews are tiered?’ She walked straight to the classroom at the far end of the hall. She hadn’t imagined a small student club would have so many elaborate procedures.

Little did Seraphina Sterling know, when the club member pointed her to "the one at the very end of the hall," the jaws of the other students nearly hit the floor. The stock trading club was one of the most popular organizations on campus, and many students knew its inner workings in great detail. The interview room at the end of the hall... wasn’t that the president’s room? Shelby Fenton came from a prestigious family and had the Fenton Bank behind her, yet even she didn’t qualify for a personal interview with the president. Just who in the world was this Seraphina Sterling?

Didn’t Shelby Fenton just say she was from some small town? She definitely isn’t from any powerful family! What could she possibly have written on her application to warrant a personal interview with the president? The president is a senior, and he hasn’t personally interviewed a new member in two years! This Seraphina Sterling’s luck is just unbelievable!
