Chapter 399: Chapter 399: Mr. Grant’s Mrs. Grant (3)
’What a smooth talker! He should take a look at who put these on me in the first place! If he hadn’t been misbehaving, my clothes wouldn’t be ruined, I wouldn’t be covered in smelly sweat, and I certainly wouldn’t have any hickeys!’
’She’s so light.’ This was Terrence Grant’s first impression. She had no meat on her bones—all scrawny and thin, as if she never ate. A classic case of malnutrition! ’I have to find a way to fatten her up,’ he resolved. ’At this rate, a strong gust of wind could blow her away!’
As he’d hoped, Terrence Grant managed to coax Seraphina Sterling back to his apartment.
Terrence Grant’s apartment was immaculate. It featured solid wood floors and pine furniture—in fact, all the furnishings were solid wood. Even the living room lights were designed to look like ancient lanterns. The entire apartment had a classical, antique charm; if you weren’t paying attention, you might think you had stepped back into ancient times, creating a disorienting feeling of being displaced in time.
"You must wish you lived in ancient times, don’t you? I thought your courtyard in Tollan Town was a one-off thing, but I never imagined you’d be this obsessed with traditional decor. I’m telling you, you should just go back in time and get it over with!" Seraphina Sterling said, staring at a lantern-shaped lamp, completely at a loss for words.
Terrence Grant froze. A strange light flickered in his deep-set eyes, gone so quickly it was nearly impossible to catch. "You are the future Mrs. Grant," he said. "If you don’t like it, we can redecorate. We can do it in any style you want."
"No, thank you. It’s not like I live here! I’m going to take a shower. And no peeking! Also, hurry up and get me a change of clothes I can actually wear outside. I have to get back to school soon! If I don’t head back, I’ll miss curfew!" Seraphina Sterling marched straight into the bathroom. When she saw the enormous wooden bathtub, she was once again at a loss for words. ’Seriously,’ she thought, ’Terrence Grant really should have been born in ancient times! He was definitely born in the wrong era!’
Terrence Grant stood before the large floor-to-ceiling windows, gazing down at the dazzling neon lights of the street below. The sound of running water from the bathroom filled the silence, and his deep eyes grew even more mysterious. He let out a long sigh and headed straight for the kitchen. ’It’s been a long night,’ he thought. ’She must be hungry.’
Seraphina Sterling had been exhausted lately; there were simply too many things demanding her attention. A major promotional event in the jewelry industry had triggered fluctuations in the stock market. Although Apex Wealth Management Inc. was publicly fronted by Nadia Chapman, Seraphina was the one truly calling the shots from behind the scenes. It was too good an opportunity to pass up. How could she not make a killing? It would not only allow her to strike at The Sutton Group but also build Apex Wealth Management’s reputation. Most importantly, it would give the clients of Apex Wealth Management a taste of real profit—especially Leo Fenton.
Taking down Fenton Bank wasn’t something that could be accomplished overnight. It would require skill, capital, and wits, but above all, it would require patience. After all, you have to let out a long line to catch a big fish.
Perhaps it was because Seraphina Sterling was so exhausted, or perhaps it was because the bath was just too comfortable, but somewhere in the middle of washing, she fell asleep.
Terrence Grant finished making the noodles, but she still hadn’t come out. The clothes he had ordered were delivered, yet there was still no sound from the bathroom. He went straight to the door and started pounding on it. "You’ve been in there long enough! Time to come out! Seraphina Sterling! Do you hear me? Seraphina!" Still, there was no response from inside. Terrence Grant’s heart seized. He immediately took out his key, unlocked the door, and rushed in.
"Stop! Don’t come in! I’ll be right out!" Seraphina Sterling cried out frantically. The bath had been so comfortable that she had fallen fast asleep. She’d been vaguely aware of Terrence Grant calling her name but couldn’t bring herself to open her eyes. It wasn’t until she heard the click of the lock that she finally jolted fully awake. At that moment, she was incredibly thankful she had pulled the shower curtain closed before her bath. Otherwise, he would have seen absolutely everything!
