Chapter 392: Chapter 392: Someone Needs to Be Taught a Lesson (8)
The living room was deathly silent; you could even hear people breathing. Everyone waited nervously for a response from the other end of the line. Jasmine Faulkner had a malicious thought: ’Wouldn’t it be great if Ethan Thompson just dealt with Seraphina Sterling directly? It would save me the effort!’
"You win!" Ethan Thompson hung up the phone, fuming. The Thompson Family wouldn’t be afraid of the Sterling Family alone, but the Grant Family’s Demon King of Chaos was not someone to be trifled with. He had only given Seraphina Sterling a bit of trouble during military training, and Terrence Grant had retaliated almost immediately, sending him straight to the hospital. If Seraphina really went up against the Thompson Family, it would be strange if Terrence Grant *didn’t* step in to help! The Sterling Family was already a force to be reckoned with. If you added the Grant Family to the mix, even the Thompsons would come out worse for wear.
Seraphina Sterling shrugged and put her phone back in her bag. ’Is that it? Is it over just like that? And Ethan Thompson didn’t even say anything in the end?’ A flicker of regret crossed Jasmine Faulkner’s and Aiden Faulkner’s eyes. ’What a waste of a perfect opportunity!’ Their dissatisfaction with her wasn’t a recent development. Seraphina had fully expected them to feel disappointed.
’But Faye Sterling isn’t showing any emotion at all? Of everyone here, you could say Faye’s grudge against me is the deepest! She wants revenge on me the most! But she’s not reacting to this at all. That’s not normal. Not normal at all! If it’s not because she no longer hates me, then it must mean Faye has gotten much better at hiding her true feelings! She’s become more formidable!’
She was quite curious what Martin Quinn had done to Faye Sterling to transform a pampered heiress, who only knew how to engage in petty comparisons, into someone so calculating. ’Looks like I’ll need to be much more careful around my little sister from now on.’
"Second Aunt, does this prove I didn’t forge my acceptance letter? That I wasn’t lying to get on Grandpa’s good side, like you said?" Seraphina Sterling turned her gaze to Jasmine Faulkner. ’Faye’s matter can wait. The problem at hand is more important. This ’Second Aunt’ of mine really needs to be put in her place. After Mom put her in a tough spot last time, she behaved herself for a while. Now she’s getting cocky again!’
Jasmine Faulkner’s expression froze. Ethan Thompson’s words were the best possible proof, making her own accusations look utterly foolish. Jasmine desperately wanted to explain herself, but though her lips moved, she couldn’t find the words.
"Stop stirring up trouble all day! Always making a mountain out of a molehill!" Walter Sterling glared at Jasmine Faulkner, his tone exceptionally severe. "From now on, stay out of Seraphina’s business! Just focus on managing Maple! You haven’t even taught your own daughter properly, yet you spend all your time meddling in other people’s affairs!" He didn’t care in the slightest that an outsider was present. Jasmine Faulkner had never been so publicly humiliated! She felt nothing but wronged, yet she couldn’t utter a single word of explanation.
Seeing this, Aiden Faulkner stepped in to smooth things over. "Mr. Sterling, please don’t be too hard on my aunt. She was only thinking of the Sterling Family’s best interests. Perhaps her methods were wrong, but she’ll do better in the future!"
Jasmine Faulkner knew how to adapt. "Seraphina, I was also just thinking of the Sterling Family’s reputation. I was a bit too hasty this time. Your Second Aunt apologizes. We’re all family here, and we all want what’s best for the family."
Seraphina Sterling looked at Jasmine Faulkner’s forced smile and gave a faint smile of her own. ’She probably hates my guts right now.’ "Second Aunt is right. It’s all for the Sterling Family," she said. "I won’t take it to heart. May I go now? I have classes tomorrow."
"See? Our Seraphina is so magnanimous! You," he said to Jasmine, "should learn from her! Since you have classes tomorrow, you should head back to school. We can’t have you falling behind!" Walter Sterling was very pleased. ’As expected of a granddaughter of the Sterling Family, so broad-minded!’
Jasmine Faulkner was about to spit blood! ’Seraphina Sterling really knows how to play the good girl! And the old man is even worse, telling me, her elder, to learn from a junior! What on earth is he thinking?’ But no matter how angry she was, Jasmine could only go along with Walter Sterling’s words. "Yes, Father."
Just as Seraphina Sterling was about to leave, Aiden Faulkner called out to stop her. "Seraphina Sterling, since we’re all family, is it really right to let outsiders profit instead of your own relatives?"
