Chapter 1468: Chapter 1458: Stalking
The next day, the old lady was discharged from the hospital.
Invited by the old lady, Kong Lizhen went to the Zhuang Family Mansion.
Mu Yan stayed upstairs with the old lady, and after she fell asleep, she went downstairs.
She didn’t find Kong Lizhen inside the house, so she went outside to look for her, and saw her standing at the edge of the sunflower field by the door.
It was now August, and the sunflowers were in full bloom, the gentle breeze sweeping over them, creating waves of golden flowers. It was dazzling.
She stood with her back to her, gazing ahead, seemingly lost in thought.
Mu Yan approached and called out, "Godmother."
Kong Lizhen snapped out of her thoughts, wiped her tears with her hand, turned her head, and smiled at her, "Finished with your tasks?"
Mu Yan noticed the tear marks on her face, surprised, "Godmother, you’ve been crying? What’s wrong?"
"Nothing, I just thought of some past matters," Kong Lizhen smiled at her.
Mu Yan saw it was a sad matter for her and felt embarrassed to query further, saying, "Godmother, don’t be sad, those are things of the past, we should look forward."
Kong Lizhen took a deep breath and earnestly said, "Yes, look forward."
Mu Yan suggested, "You haven’t toured Beijing yet, let me take you around."
"Alright, I haven’t been to Beijing in many years," Kong Lizhen lamented, "I should have a good look."
Since they were exploring Beijing, Kong Lizhen did not drive.
On a weekday morning, Beijing’s streets were quite deserted, with few people passing by.
The sunlight was gentle with a light breeze, making their walk enjoyable.
Mu Yan suddenly exclaimed, "I once longed to study in Beijing, but Mom forbid it, so I gave up. I never thought I’d suddenly discover I was born in Beijing."
Kong Lizhen glanced at her and asked, "Do you resent your mom for that?"
Mu Yan shook her head, "I was too young then, thought my desires were the best. If I could, I’d trade everything to have her back, forsake dreams, forsake family, just her."
Kong Lizhen remained silent, looking ahead thoughtfully.
The light was green, and they crossed the street together.
Suddenly, a car sped towards them, seemingly oblivious to the red light ahead.
In a flash, Kong Lizhen caught sight of the speeding car in her peripheral vision, instinctively pulled Mu Yan behind her, shielding her.
The car grazed past, and Kong Lizhen fell backward onto the ground.
Mu Yan only then reacted, hurriedly helping her, "Godmother, are you alright?"
Kong Lizhen stood up insistently, grabbing Mu Yan’s hand, her face tense with concern, "Yanyan, are you okay?"
Before Mu Yan could speak, she inspected Mu Yan’s body up and down.
Seeing her anxious look, Mu Yan quickly reassured, "I’m fine."
Kong Lizhen seemed to breathe a sigh of relief, watching the car leave, frowned, and said, "Beijing’s law enforcement is terrible, someone just ran a red light."
Mu Yan suddenly recalled yesterday’s words, that someone was trying to harm her.
She looked in the direction the car had disappeared, the vehicle’s shadow long gone.
Her gaze landed on Kong Lizhen, despite knowing Kong Lizhen treated her well, this self-sacrificing act was indeed astonishing.
Was it instinct, or something else?!
After this incident, neither was willing to walk along the street anymore, instead, they found a mall to eat.
However, Mu Yan vaguely felt someone was watching her, her intuition in this regard always keen.
"What’s wrong, Yanyan?" Kong Lizhen asked, following her gaze around, the corridor empty, nothing there.
Mu Yan shook her head, saying, "I just remembered there’s a particularly good dessert shop nearby."
"Then we shall visit it later," Kong Lizhen replied.
"Okay."
