Mapping the Mirror Expanse began the next morning.

Lady Sable's elite unit and a matching group from the Twin Petal Pavilion formed the first survey teams. Lian and Mei provided the stabilised charts of the nearer reflection belts. Feng Lan cross-referenced them against the older academy records we still carried. Seraphina tested each new zone for temporal instability before anyone else entered. Vale and the combat disciples handled the living threats that the reflective ground produced without warning.

The work was steady and dangerous.

Mirror-born beasts appeared on the second day. They formed from the reflective surfaces themselves, taking the approximate shape and strength of whoever looked at them too long. A beast that copied Vale's power nearly took apart two Crimson Veil disciples before she put it down herself. Another that wore a distorted version of my own physique required both Lady Sable and Mei working together to break its core. After that every survey team moved with strict rules about eye contact and exposure time.

On the fourth day the drifting fortresses appeared on the far edge of the mapped zone.

They were larger than the Twin Petal citadel and built from a dull grey material that absorbed light instead of reflecting it. No banners flew from their towers. When the first fortress changed course and began drifting toward our survey line, both Lady Sable and the Twin Petal sisters ordered an immediate withdrawal to the main camp.

The camp itself had grown. Temporary structures of bone-white and living vine now formed a small fortified settlement on one of the more stable reflective platforms. The original circle, the twins, Lady Sable, and the Twin Petal sisters all kept quarters there while the mapping continued. It was not the permanent compound of the Bone City, but it was solid enough to sleep in without expecting the ground to turn into someone else's memory overnight.

That evening an envoy arrived from the grey fortresses.

She came alone on a small vessel of the same light-drinking material, landing at the edge of the camp without escort. Tall, broad-shouldered, and dressed in practical ash-grey armour, she carried a long blade across her back that seemed to pull the surrounding light into itself. Her eyes were the colour of storm clouds and her expression carried the same direct measurement I had seen in every independent power we had met so far.

"Commander Rhea of the Ashen Court," she said. Her voice was low and even. "You opened the gate. You closed the northern residual network. You are currently mapping territory the Ashen Court has claimed as its operational zone for the last eleven years. I am here to prevent unnecessary killing while the three powers decide whether they can occupy the same Expanse without open war."

Lady Sable stepped forward.

"The Crimson Veil does not recognise prior claims on unmapped ground."

Mei's smile was thin.

"The Twin Petal Pavilion recognises strength and useful charts. Everything else is conversation."

Rhea looked past both of them and settled her attention on me.

"The Heart of Reflection sits near the centre of this region. Every serious expedition that has tried to reach it alone has failed. The Ashen Court is prepared to share its approach routes and the losses already paid for them. In exchange we want a joint expedition, equal access to whatever is found, and a temporary truce that keeps our forces from bleeding each other while the real work is done."

Elizabeth's voice was calm.

"And after the temporary truce?"

"After that we renegotiate from whatever new ground the Heart provides. Or we fight. I prefer the first option. My Court has already spent enough blood on this place."

I studied her. The cursed blade on her back was no decoration. The way she stood said she had used it often and recently. The Ashen Court was clearly another independent power that had survived by staying outside the great clans and by accepting losses the clans would have found unacceptable. A joint expedition toward the Heart of Reflection would give all three groups a shared goal and a reason to keep their blades sheathed a little longer.

"Agreed," I said. "Temporary truce. Shared approach routes. Equal claim on whatever the Heart provides. The truce lasts until the expedition returns or fails. After that we talk again."

Rhea gave a single short nod.

"Acceptable. I will return at dawn with the charts and a small liaison group. Do not approach the grey fortresses before then. Their commanders are less patient than I am."

She left the same way she had arrived, the light-drinking vessel vanishing into the reflective distance.

The camp settled into a new tension after she was gone. Three independent powers now shared the same stretch of the Mirror Expanse with a fragile agreement and a common destination. The original circle, the Crimson Veil, and the Twin Petal Pavilion all understood how quickly that agreement could break once the Heart of Reflection came into view.

Night came.

The temporary structures of the camp filled. Elizabeth, Vale, Seraphina, Lydia and Feng Lan took the central building as they always did. Lady Sable arrived with Yara and Nyra as the last light faded. Lian and Mei followed not long after, the dual physique they shared already brushing against the denser energy of the gathered group. No one needed to announce the decision. The night before a joint expedition into the deeper Expanse was not a night any of them intended to spend alone or in careful separate pairs.

The first of the three nights began with the simple fact of too many people in too little space and no desire to waste the hours on formality.

I took Elizabeth first, slow and deep, while the others watched and waited their turn or simply joined when the mood pulled them closer. Vale claimed the next stretch with her usual direct hunger. The twins moved in together, identical movements and shared breath, amplifying each other the way they always did. Lian and Mei followed, the dual resonance of their physique turning every contact into something heavier and more precise. Lady Sable took what she wanted when she decided the measurement was required, crimson eyes open and assessing even while her body demanded its own release. Seraphina, Lydia and Feng Lan wove through the arrangements without needing fixed places, sometimes with me, sometimes with each other, sometimes simply close enough to touch and be touched while the larger current moved around them.

The night did not end so much as it paused when exhaustion demanded it. Bodies slept in tangled groups across the available beds and floor mats. Morning brought only enough recovery to begin again. The second night ran longer and looser than the first. The third stretched until the reflected sky had already begun to lighten and Commander Rhea's vessel was due to return with the Ashen Court charts.

By the time the three nights closed, the circle that would walk toward the Heart of Reflection had been expanded, tested, and bound together by more than shared maps and temporary truces. Ten women had shared the same space and the same man without the residual claims that once forced such things. The Mirror Expanse continued its slow reflection of possible worlds outside the thin walls of the camp. And the joint expedition that would decide how much of that expanse any of them kept was already waiting at the edge of dawn.
