10x Rewards: Conquering Women and Taming Beauties
Chapter 202 — Mirror Expanse
The final alignment ended at dawn.
Lady Sable rose from the platform first, crimson robes settling around her as if the night's work had been only another form of training. Yara and Nyra followed, movements steady despite the hours of continuous circulation. I remained on the black glass a moment longer, feeling the Cursed Nebula Physique settle into the exact frequency the sealed gate required. The ordinary scar on my arm stayed quiet. No residual interference remained to spoil the match.
Elizabeth and the others were already waiting in the foundation halls when we arrived. Vale carried her preferred blade. Seraphina had prepared every temporal stabilisation method she still possessed. Feng Lan's eyes were bright with the formation knowledge she had gathered over the previous days. Lydia's arm was bound for movement rather than rest. The original circle stood ready.
Lady Sable brought a small elite unit of the Crimson Veil — six disciples in practical crimson, faces calm, power carefully controlled. She looked at the sealed gate once, then at me.
"Open it."
I stepped onto the circular platform and placed both hands on the nested lines. The Cursed Nebula Physique rose cleanly, without force or foreign colour. The lines brightened in sequence from the outer ring inward. The slow pulse that had matched my heartbeat for three days accelerated once, then locked. A sound like glass under perfect pressure ran through the foundation halls.
The sealed surface dissolved into clear air.
On the other side lay a land that reflected itself in every direction.
We stepped through.
The Mirror Expanse opened around us in silence. The ground underfoot was smooth stone that showed a different sky than the one above our heads. In one direction the reflection held a version of the Bone City that had never been built. In another it showed a coastline that matched no chart we carried. Floating fragments of landscape drifted at different heights, each one carrying its own incomplete reflection of mountains, seas, or cities that might have existed or might still come to exist. The air tasted of rain that had not fallen and of metal that had never been forged.
Lady Sable's elite unit spread into a loose protective formation. Elizabeth moved up on my right. Vale took the left. The rest of the circle stayed close enough to support and far enough to react.
We had been walking for less than an hour when the floating citadel appeared.
It rose from a bank of low mist, a structure of pale stone and living vines that should not have been able to hold its own weight in the air. Twin banners of soft pink and deep violet hung from its upper terraces. The moment the citadel's leading edge cleared the mist, two figures stepped onto an open balcony and looked straight at us across the distance.
They descended without visible vessels.
The sisters landed lightly on the reflective stone a short distance ahead of our group. Both were tall, graceful, and clearly dangerous. The one in pink-trimmed robes had eyes the colour of fresh plum blossoms and a calm smile that did not reach them. The one in violet carried a thinner smile and a gaze that moved over each of us like a blade testing edges. Their dual cursed physique was immediately obvious to anyone who knew how to look — two powers designed to interlock and amplify each other.
Lady Sable's posture shifted by the smallest degree.
"Lian. Mei. The Twin Petal Pavilion moves quickly when a gate opens."
The sister in pink, Lian, inclined her head.
"Lady Sable. We felt the seal break from the far side of the nearest reflection belt. A pure Cursed Nebula Physique at that stage does not go unnoticed."
Mei, the one in violet, looked directly at me.
"You are the one who opened it. And the one who closed the northern residual network. The reports were not exaggerated."
Elizabeth answered before the conversation could narrow too far.
"We came for information and safe passage through this region. Not for a contest of claims."
Lian's smile widened a fraction.
"Then we are fortunate. The Twin Petal Pavilion prefers information to unnecessary bloodshed. Especially when the alternative is fighting the Crimson Veil on ground neither of us fully controls yet."
Mei's gaze flicked to Lady Sable and back to me.
"An agreement to share preliminary charts of the nearer Expanse would be acceptable. In exchange we want a private conversation with the man who carries the physique that opened the gate. Alone. At our citadel. Tonight."
Vale's hand settled near her weapon. Seraphina's eyes narrowed. Feng Lan's expression remained carefully neutral. Elizabeth looked at me and waited.
Lady Sable spoke with the same measured tone she used for every negotiation that mattered.
"Guest elder status within the Crimson Veil is not transferable and does not place him under Twin Petal authority. Any conversation happens with that understanding."
Lian nodded once.
"Understood. We are not attempting to poach a guest. We are requesting a professional exchange. The Expanse is large enough that both our powers will need accurate maps if we intend to remain here longer than a season."
I studied the two sisters. Everything about them was controlled and deliberate. The dual physique they shared carried the same clean quality I had felt in the Bone City's older arrays — power that had never been tangled with residual claims. They were dangerous. They were also the second independent force we had met that treated the wider cursed world as something to be mapped rather than feared.
"I will come," I said. "Alone. Tonight. Information is exchanged on both sides or the conversation ends early."
Mei's thinner smile returned.
"Acceptable."
The sisters rose back toward their floating citadel without further ceremony. The banners of pink and violet shifted in a wind that did not touch the rest of the Expanse. Lady Sable watched them go, then turned to the group.
"We make camp here. The reflective ground is stable enough. No one wanders. The Expanse rewards curiosity with confusion, and confusion here is often lethal."
Her elite unit began setting a perimeter. The original circle gathered near the centre of the chosen ground. Elizabeth stood close enough that her shoulder brushed mine.
"You trust the invitation?"
"I trust that they want the physique mapped as much as Lady Sable did. And I trust that you will burn their citadel down if the conversation is not what was promised."
Elizabeth's mouth curved slightly.
"That part is already decided."
Night settled over the Mirror Expanse in a way that made the reflections deepen rather than fade. Floating landscapes continued their slow drift across the sky. Somewhere above the mist the Twin Petal citadel held its position, banners visible as soft points of colour against the darker reflections.
When the agreed hour arrived a small vessel of living vine and pale stone descended from the citadel and waited at the edge of our camp. I stepped onto it alone. Elizabeth's eyes stayed on me until the vessel rose and the reflective distance swallowed the details of her face.
The citadel grew larger as we approached. Its terraces were lined with flowers that should not have bloomed in the open air of the Expanse. The landing platform was empty except for the two sisters standing side by side, pink and violet robes moving in a wind that belonged only to them.
Lian spoke first.
"Welcome to the Twin Petal Pavilion's current foothold in the Mirror Expanse. We have food, charts, and questions. The charts and the food are yours regardless of how the questions are answered."
Mei's gaze remained direct.
"The questions, however, will decide how much of the deeper Expanse either of our powers sees before the other."
They turned and walked into the citadel together. I followed.
Behind me the vessel sealed the way back to the camp where my circle waited. Ahead of me the Twin Petal sisters moved with the easy synchronisation of a dual physique that had never needed residual power to make itself dangerous. The night of conversation and measurement they had requested was only beginning, and the Mirror Expanse continued to reflect versions of the cursed world that none of the great clans had ever been strong enough to claim.
