Zombie Apocalypse: Creation

Chapter 893: Across the Ocean

  • Next Chapter

As the dinner went on relatively smoothly, Xiaoyun’s wives were still constantly chatting with Houqin’s mom about the wedding.

Meanwhile, the two main characters of the wedding remained mostly silent, only occasionally chiming in when needed.

It was the longest dinner Xiaoyun ever had, with no end in sight despite most of the food already finished.

They were all just sitting there talking about anything that came to mind, going beyond the wedding... until his phone suddenly rang.

"I’ll be right back."

Xiaoyun quickly took this opportunity to head over to the backyard. As he opened the glass door, it was the police chief calling him.

"Li Zhen, what are you calling me at night for? It better be important."

"Governor, a plane had landed in the middle of a highway."

"A plane? On the highway?"

Looking back over to the table, all of his wives were still yapping to each other. This was the excuse he needed to leave.

"What kind of plane?"

"A Boeing 787... And it has a United Logo on the side."

"United?"

The answer spiked Xiaoyun’s curiosity even more. He couldn’t imagine a reason why an American airline would choose to land in Guangdong.

"Have they exited the plane yet?"

"No, they’re still in the plane and haven’t exited... Governor, I think you might want to send in the military."

Xiaoyun thought about it for a second before giving Li Zhen his answer.

"No need. Just have your SWAT team on standby. Send me the location, and I’ll be there in a few."

As Xiaoyun ended the call, he instantly got a notification from Li Zhen. The location was surprisingly closer than imagined.

Only thirty miles away from where he lived. Or fifty-three miles away from the closest airport, to be exact.

"Huh, did they run out of fuel?"

Back inside the house, Xiaoyun put his phone into his pocket as he walked right past the dining area towards the front door.

"Where are you going?" Leyan questioned, with everyone at the table looking just as curious as she was.

"A plane landed on a highway. Li Zhen called me to check. I’ll probably be back later tonight."

"A plane on the highway?"

"Mhm."

Xiaoyun didn’t elaborate any further as he headed inside the garage, starting up his car before driving out into the night.

---

"Governor, I have the SWAT team fully surrounding the plane. I had also ordered several fire trucks in case of a fire."

As Li Zhen spoke through the phone, Xiaoyun was still driving towards the location Li Zhen had sent to him.

"Good."

"Um, there is a slight problem though." Li Zhen suddenly murmured, sounding a little hesitant.

"What is it?"

"There’s a lot of cameras... Should I order in the police?"

"Tell them to stay at a safe distance and don’t get in the way. I’m only five minutes away from the place."

"Will do, sir."

Five minutes quickly flew by.

When Xiaoyun’s car came to a stop, he was stunned by the scene in front of him. A massive plane stood on the highway.

Its wingspan was so wide that it covered both sides. No cars could travel around it at all, causing all the nearby traffic to come to a complete stop.

Hundreds of bystanders stood alongside the press, taking pictures of the plane and calling their family where they were.

The police were standing in the distance, acting as a barrier, preventing anyone from going closer or leaving.

Further up close to the plane were the SWAT team, armed with not just rifles, but full-blown RPGs and even boxes of explosives.

"Excuse me."

As Xiaoyun squeezed past the crowd, several of them seemed to have noticed who he was, as the police quickly made way for him. ℯℯ𝑙.

"It’s the governor!"

"Everyone! Please stay back. This is not a safe place." A nearby police officer yelled as some of the crowd started moving closer.

"He’s right. Everyone stay back! The guns here are not for looks, and they’re fully loaded with live rounds."

This time, the entire crowd took a few steps back. Not a single person dared to disobey as several of the police officers readied their pistols.

"Governor!"

"Li Zhen."

The two quickly met up as they walked towards a makeshift outdoor tent, where radio operators and rows of armored cars were in place.

"How’s the situation?" Xiaoyun questioned.

"We had been trying to find their radio frequency, but nobody from within the plane had answered." Li Zhen answered.

"You tried speaking to them on a megaphone?"

"We tried, but they seem unable to hear us from within the plane. Several of the SWAT officers had suggested breaching inside."

The suggestion made Xiaoyun regret not bringing in the military. But still, he wasn’t about to go back on his decision.

"Let’s just wait for a bit. Those people within the plane will eventually need to leave."

Li Zhen didn’t question it as he ordered the SWAT team to stay put. It was now the waiting game as the plane remained still.

Soon, some of the bystanders in the crowd were getting a little impatient.

"Hey! How long is this going to take? We need to go to work tomorrow!" One of the people from the crowd yelled.

"Yeah! I need to go home to cook for my kids!"

"We can just squeeze right through on the left over there! There’s plenty of space to drive under it."

With more and more people complaining, all of the law enforcement, including Xiaoyun, could feel the pressure.

"Governor, are you sure we should wait it out?"

"Just a few more minutes."

After waiting for a few more minutes, sirens began going off in the distance as several fire trucks arrived at the scene.

"Okay. Li Zhen, you can begin the order for the breach."

"Yes, sir!"

Just as the SWAT team moved closer to their designated position, the windows of the plane suddenly shattered into pieces.

Someone from within the plane had broken them. What emerged from the broken window surprised everyone.

"Wait! Don’t shoot! We’re Chinese citizens!"

As the person from within the plane repeated this in both English and Chinese, the SWAT team was a little lost as Li Zhen’s walkie-talkie soon popped up.

"Chief, should we continue?"

"Put a pause on it. Over... Governor, what should we do now?"

"Let me talk to them."

"Governor, I don’t think that’s a good—"

"I know what I’m doing. Just give me the megaphone... And allow the press to move closer."

Li Zhen still hesitated a little, but he soon accepted the order as he realized what Xiaoyun was trying to do.

"Yes, sir."

With the megaphone in hand, Xiaoyun walked right past all the police officers and the SWAT team as he stood right where the shattered window was.

"Hello! I’m the local Commander here. What business do you guys have? And do you guys mind exiting the plane?"

"We want to leave, but all eight of the emergency slides are jammed... Do you guys have a ladder to help us get down?"

As a young man’s voice appeared from the other side, Xiaoyun gave his response.

"Sure, we can do that... Li Zhen, can you bring the fire truck over and help them exit the plane?"

After waiting for a few minutes, the fire trucks finally made it past the traffic jam as firefighters started attaching the support beam to the floor.

"Before we let you guys out, do you all have any weapons with you? Anything potentially dangerous?" Xiaoyun questioned.

"We do. We can give it to you after coming down first."

The answer instantly alerted both Xiaoyun and the SWAT team. It was the worst-case scenario for them.

"How about you guys throw your weapons out of the plane first? Just drop them out of the window."

To everyone’s surprise, the other side complied with the request as weapons began to drop from above.

From machetes that still had blood on them to all kinds of rifles, they just kept falling from it as if they had an endless supply of weapons.

"Um, we also have some explosives on the plane. Do you want us to throw that down too?" The man asked out loud.

"Keep it up there... You guys can come down now."

As the aerial ladder extended fully to the broken window, the people inside the plane soon encountered a problem that even Xiaoyun could tell.

It was just too small. Too narrow for anyone to go through such a small gap, other than letting a toddler through.

Xiaoyun thought about it for a second before looking over to the normal exit of the plane, which was just a few steps away from the broken window.

"Can you guys just open the normal exit? We have the ladder to help you guys down now." Xiaoyun asked.

"Give us a second."

After waiting for a minute, the plane door finally opened as the fire truck quickly readjusted its ladder to be right underneath the exit.

"Perfect. Please come down one at a time. And don’t carry anything like luggage with you. We’ll help you take it down later."

The first person to go down was no other than the one who had been talking to Xiaoyun—a young man with glasses.

An unshaven face with hair down to the back of his neck. No weapons attached to his back or to his waist, seemingly unarmed.

"Mr.Commander, thank you so much for saving us."
