Zombie Apocalypse: Creation
Chapter 891: A Flash Wedding
Despite Houqin getting up from her seat and walking over to the door, she was surprised to see Xiaoyun still sitting on the sofa.
"Xiaoyun?"
"Mrs.Jingyi, Mr.Wen Bo. This is the best offer you’re ever going to get... Unless you guys want to walk away with nothing."
For a second, Xiaoyun could see the hesitation on both of their faces. Yet, he didn’t wait for them to speak as he headed towards the exit.
"Wait. Jingyi, we have to accept this. Xiaoyun has already been generous enough. He could have done all of this without telling us."
"But—"
"There is no but. Xiaoyun, your wedding will have our blessing. Just give us a date, and the two of us will be there."
"Will do."
Just as Xiaoyun and Houqin were about to head out the door, a voice from behind stopped them in their track.
"Wait, Xiaoyun, you said you’re willing to do anything for us, right?" Jingyi questioned as her voice softened.
"Yes. As long as it doesn’t include telling her not to go on this trip with me." Xiaoyun answered without turning back around.
"Then I want you to give my daughter a proper wedding by tomorrow."
"By tomorrow?"
Nobody expected Jingyi’s demand. Not even her own husband, as he looked just as dumbfounded as Xiaoyun.
"You serious?" Xiaoyun questioned.
"I’m as serious as I can be. I want the two of you to be married before you go on this trip of yours... And it has to be televised."
"Jingyi, what are you even saying?"
The extra demand finally pushed Wen Bo overboard, as he spoke up again, his face clearly disapproving of rushing something so important.
"Xiaoyun, can you do it or not?"
"I can, but is your daughter willing?"
As everyone’s attention turned towards Houqin, she couldn’t speak a single word as her brain still didn’t process her mother’s demand.
"Houqin, come here. I need to tell you something."
Both Wen Bo and Xiaoyun were left confused as Jingyi pulled Houqin aside, whispering something into Houqin’s ear before her face blushed red.
"You understand now? Say yes and don’t be stupid. Don’t say I didn’t warn you when you come back in regret."
Seeing Houqin walking back over to him, Xiaoyun waited for her to speak up as she nervously stood before him.
"Xiaoyun, I-I.. I don’t mind marrying if my parents want to see me married."
"Are you sure? This is a really important decision. I don’t think you’re thinking clearly. Don’t let peer pressure—"
"I mean it. I-I don’t want to wait for so long... Who knows if we ever get back to the capital alive together."
"Don’t say that..."
---
As Xiaoyun entered his car empty-handed, he now had a new job. One that he had plenty of experience with.
But to do it all within two days before his trip required a level of crunch time he had never tried before.
"Where do I even begin? Guest lists... The venue... Fuck, I’m going to need some help for this."
Not wasting any more time, Xiaoyun immediately started up the car, sped down the open street before arriving back home.
"Who’s there?"
"It’s me."
As Leyan opened the door for Xiaoyun, she was puzzled to see him come back so early when noon had barely passed.
"Did you forget something at home?"
"Nope. I need you to help me with something."
Xiaoyun quickly brought Leyan down onto the sofa as she looked even more puzzled than before.
"Me? Out of all people? What is there for me to help you with?" Leyan questioned in a sarcastic tone.
"I’m dead serious. I... I went to Houqin’s house early to tell her parents about the trip we’re going on."
"Let me guess, they didn’t approve it?"
"Yeah. But then I was able to convince them on one condition."
"What condition is it?"
"I need to marry Houqin before the end of Wednesday."
"Marry? Wednesday? That’s like a day and a half from now." Leyan immediately pointed out, as if she couldn’t believe her ears.
"I know it’s fast, but I already made a promise to them... Are you going to help me with the wedding or not?"
After a few seconds of silence, Leyan spoke up again.
"Of course I’m going to help. But did Houqin agree to this flash wedding?"
Seeing Xiaoyun nod his head, Leyan was a little surprised. But it soon disappeared the more she thought about it.
Without even needing to ask him for more details, she already knew why her parents wanted Houqin to marry right away.
"Let me go call everyone in the group chat. They’re going to need to take a day off in advance to prepare for this."
"Is that really necessary?"
"If you want it done quickly and cleanly, yes. If you just want a wedding that only includes going up to the registration, then be my guest."
"Okay, okay. Go text."
As Leyan headed over to the kitchen to get her phone, Xiaoyun was sitting on the sofa, still looking a little nervous.
His brain was still processing the information—the thought of marrying someone within just two days.
"Leyan, will others be mad about this?" Xiaoyun suddenly asked as she sat back down with her phone in hand.
"Why would they? The two of you had already done it, and it’s not like she didn’t participate in the bathroom orgy a week ago."
Hearing Leyan casually say it out loud without flinching, Xiaoyun’s face still blushed a little as the memory flooded back into his head.
"Though, there is one person you probably should watch out for. She’s going to be really upset hearing about it."
"Tianci? I’m sure she has the heart to accept another person in."
"Not her. I’m talking about Lily. She’s going to be really annoyed seeing you marry someone before her for like... the eighth time?"
"Fuck. I didn’t think of that. Then what should I do?" Xiaoyun asked as Leyan started typing on her phone.
"Best to apologize to her in person... Or an even better idea would be to propose to her on the same wedding date."
"Same wedding date? Wait, are you suggesting I marry the two of them at once?"
"Looks like your brain isn’t as smooth as a wooden board. Anyway, that’s a decision for you to make, not me."
As she put her phone down, Xiaoyun’s phone had already started to shake nonstop with an endless number of notifications.
He didn’t dare to look. He was a little scared. Scared of what their reaction would be to the sudden news.
At the same time, a thought popped into his brain. One he still hadn’t mentioned to Leyan despite being a big part of the promise.
"Ahem, Leyan, I also forgot to tell you something."
"What is it? Is it another one of your problems?" Leyan asked, her face surprisingly not looking angry at all.
"I might have also agreed to televising the wedding."
"Televised? Why in the hell would you ever agree to that? What are you even thinking?" Leyan questioned as she finally grew irritated.
"I know I fucked up. I’ll just call them later and tell them it’s not happening—"
"Keep it. No need to take it out... If Houqin agrees to having her relationship public, I don’t see the issue with it."
"I guess. Now I think about it, why does Houqin’s mom want this to be televised in the first place?"
As Xiaoyun murmured to himself, a voice from the side soon answered his question for him.
"She wants it to be televised to blackmail you. In case you came back to the capital alone without her." Leyan answered.
"Really? Blackmail?"
"Mhm. Imagine the public pressure against you. She doesn’t even need to do anything, and the news will be all over it."
"That sly fox..."
The more Xiaoyun sat on the sofa, the more he felt tricked. Not once had he ever thought Jingyi was using this as leverage.
He had genuinely thought she was requesting it to be televised as a flex. To show off her daughter in front of everyone she knows.
"Xiaoyun, do you know how many people Jingyi is planning to invite on their side?"
"I don’t know. I’ll call them—"
"Just give me your phone. I’ll talk to them about it myself."
Leyan’s assertiveness didn’t leave Xiaoyun any room, as he quickly handed his phone over, only to see her crack the password in seconds.
"How do you know my password? I never told you that."
"Because you always use the same three. I just need to guess it... Anyway, be quiet; I’m making a phone call now."
As the phone started beeping, Xiaoyun got up from his seat and headed over to the TV drawer to take out a bottle of wine.
For some reason, he felt like drinking. Perhaps it was stress, perhaps it was a sense of rush that made him uneasy.
"What are you doing?"
"Relax. It’s a light one. I’m not going to get drunk."
