Zombie Apocalypse: Creation
Chapter 890: Visiting in-laws
"That’s why Xiaoyun has you all here today. I want everyone to go back to their department after this meeting to come up with a proposal."
As Yuqi spoke up, everyone noted her words down.
"Mhm... And just as a warning, everything in this meeting is top secret. If anyone leaks it to the press, you’re going to enjoy your prison stay."
Xiaoyun’s warning made several of them flinch for a second, but they still nodded their heads in silence.
"The meeting is over. You all can leave now."
Everyone immediately got up from their seat and left, making Yuqi a little confused as she didn’t expect him to end the meeting so quickly.
"Why did you end the meeting already?"
"Because it takes time to develop a good plan... You’re going to need to carry this out after they come up with their proposal."
"Whatever."
As Yuqi rolled her eyes, she quickly packed up her work bag. Her face looked weirdly annoyed for some reason.
"Hey, I mean it. I’m letting them develop their own ideas first before coming together as one to create a bigger idea."
"You don’t have to explain everything to me. I know."
The two awkwardly walked back into the elevator, taking it up to the top floor before walking over to Yuqi’s office.
"Why do you look so mad? Did I do something wrong?"
"You didn’t do anything wrong."
"Come on, just tell me—"
Before Xiaoyun could finish talking, his eyes widened in shock as Yuqi kissed her on the lips, pinning him to her desk as she locked the office door.
"You did it with Mom this morning, didn’t you?"
"M-Maybe."
Seeing him avoid eye contact, the anger on Yuqi’s face grew as she pulled his pants all the way down to the floor.
"I knew it."
"C-Can we not do this here—"
"My turn to get a fair share."
---
As the morning quickly flew by to noon, Xiaoyun was out of Yuqi’s office with a slightly exhausted face.
"What’s up with my wives being so horny all of a sudden? Didn’t I already feed them enough last night?"
Xiaoyun’s brain went blank as he got into his car. He drove aimlessly around as he didn’t have anything else to do.
"Where should I go now?"
For a second, he thought of going to the logistics office. But remembering Houqin was on break, he drove towards where he had dropped her off last time.
Her parents’ home.
A few minutes’ drive later.
"Houqin, are you at your parents’ home still?" Xiaoyun asked as he held up his phone, sitting in the car right outside an apartment.
"Yeah. What’s wrong?"
"I just happened to drive by and was wondering if I could come visit. If it is too much of a bother, I’ll just leave."
"Of course you can—"
Before Houqin could finish talking on the other side, it was cut short by a different woman’s voice.
"Is this the governor?"
"Yes, this is?"
"I’m Houqin’s mom. Governor, you’re more than welcome to visit at any time. We’re coming down right now."
As the phone call ended, Xiaoyun stepped out of the car and started walking towards the apartment.
Every second of waiting was making him a little nervous, as more and more people walking by were noticing him.
After waiting for a minute, a man came out of the apartment to open the door. It was none other than Houqin’s dad wearing a green coat.
"Governor!"
"Ahem, let’s go inside first."
As Xiaoyun quickly followed him into the apartment lobby, he finally felt the stare disappear as the door closed behind them.
"Governor, what brought you here?"
"I came here to visit Houqin. You look much better than before, Mister."
"Don’t call me Mister. Call me Dad if you want... Or call me by my name if you’re uncomfortable with that."
"I have no problem calling you Dad... And please don’t call me governor. You can call me Xiaoyun or little Chen if you prefer."
The moment Xiaoyun said it out loud, he could see the smile on his face as they headed towards the elevator.
"Xiaoyun sounds like a good name... Ahem, scratch what I said earlier. Just call me Wen Bo or Old Wen instead.
I still haven’t gotten used to you being my son-in-law. Maybe when you get married to my daughter, you can call me that."
"I’m fine with that too, Old Wen."
As the elevator door opened, Xiaoyun quickly followed Wen Bo down the hall before stopping at one of the apartment rooms.
"Jingyi! Your son-in-law—"
Before Wen Bo could finish talking, the door had already opened. A middle-aged woman with Houqin standing right behind.
"Welcome, Governor. I’m so happy you’re visiting us today."
"Please don’t call me Governor. That is too much for me to handle. I’m your in-law and nothing more."
Seeing Xiaoyun willingly lower his status, Jingyi smiled as she quickly brought the two over to a sofa.
"Houqin, you aren’t going to say something?"
"H-Hey."
"Hey? That’s all you’ve got to say to your fiancé? Don’t act so nervous like a naive girl. You already went to bed—"
"Ahem."
As Wen Bo cleared his throat, Jingyi finally zipped her mouth shut as her face blushed a little before turning back over to Xiaoyun.
"Sorry about that, Governor."
"Please just call me by name," Xiaoyun repeated as he didn’t want to see them act so distant in each conversation.
"Name... name... Sorry, I have a bad memory—"
"It’s Xiaoyun." Wen Bo quietly whispered.
"Oh Xiaoyun. That’s a good name... Ahem, the two of us are going to leave if we’re bothering you two meeting—"
"No, no, no, I came here specifically to talk to you guys."
Both of them remained seated as Xiaoyun cleared his throat. There was now one last thing he needed to say to get it out of his mind.
"I was wondering if we could have your guys’ blessing for our wedding."
"Wedding? Houqin, you never told me about this."
As Jingyi immediately turned over to her daughter, Houqin only shyly looked down at the coffee table in complete silence.
"She probably planned to tell you guys this after the trip, but I just want to give you guys a heads-up early."
"Trip? What trip?"
Seeing both Wen Bo and Jingyi looking a little confused, Xiaoyun looked over to Houqin for a second before speaking up again.
"Did she not tell you guys we’re heading to the capital for the next two months?" Xiaoyun clarified.
"Two months! At the capital!"
Wen Bo loud voice made Xiaoyun flinch a little, but he quickly recovered as Houqin chose to speak up.
"Dad, I have to go on this trip. My job requires it."
"You’re absolutely not going. Remember what happened last time you left the city? You almost died out there."
"Beijing is so far away..." Jingyi murmured next as she looked disapprovingly at the trip.
"Mr. Wen Bo, Mrs. Jingyi. I know it’s hard for you guys to accept this, but it is critical to have her as part of this trip.
And I’ll be personally going with her as well. You can rest assured she’ll come home safely, even if I don’t come back."
Despite Xiaoyun’s reassurance, neither of them looked convinced at all.
"Xiaoyun, you do know we only have one daughter. We can’t afford to lose her... It’s just too much of a risk."
"Dad, I’m going no matter what you—"
"Shush. You’re listening to your father for once. When I say you’re not going, you’re staying here."
As Wen Bo toughens up, Xiaoyun lets out a small sigh as he quickly realizes why Houqin chose not to tell them herself.
"Please. Mr.Wen Bo. This is for the country. In a time of crisis, everyone must step up and do their part."
"Can you not just send someone else to take her spot?" Wen Bo argued back.
"She’s the secretary of logistics. There’s no other person who’s better than her to negotiate with strength."
This time, Wen Bo couldn’t speak up. Xiaoyun had found his perfect weakness through his choice of clothes.
Evoking the duty as citizens.
"Not so fast. Why should our daughter sacrifice for others? She can quit her job rather than go on this trip."
"Mom!"
"Shush. Listen to your mother."
As Jingyi shut Houqin down, she couldn’t speak up again despite the frustration visibly growing on her face.
"What can I do to let her go on this trip with me?" Xiaoyun questioned, giving her all the leverage to make the demand.
"If you really love her, you wouldn’t make her go on this trip," Jingyi questioned back as she avoided his trap.
"I can’t do that."
"Then I’m afraid our daughter is not going."
"Please. I can do anything. Just tell me, and I’ll do it. And when I say anything, I really mean everything."
"Jingyi, we really shouldn’t be so selfish... Sometimes the greater good is worth more than any of us." Wen Bo murmured.
"Don’t you try to guilt trip me to—"
"Mom! I’m going no matter what! I don’t care what you tell me to do! I’m not going to listen to you!"
Houqin’s sudden outburst caught everyone by surprise, especially her parent looked back at her with their eyes widened in disbelief.
"What did you just say?" Jingyi questioned.
"I’m going on this trip. I’m an adult, and there’s nothing you guys can do... Xiaoyun, let’s go. We’re leaving."
