Wrong Flirt, Right Trouble: His Uncle Pulls Me Close
Chapter 527: Ruby Sterling Tricks Ivy Sherwood into Going Home
"Ivy, you..." A tremor was visible in Quentin Blackwood’s eyes.
After all, Ivy rarely took the initiative in these matters. Usually, Quentin was the one to force the issue.
"Not in the mood?" Ivy hooked her arm around his neck, pulling him even closer.
"Well, it’s too late now." With that, Ivy bit his neck before capturing his lips again.
It would be rude of him to hold back any longer.
Quentin wrapped his arms around Ivy’s waist. Though he was at the end of his rope, he remained exceptionally careful, making sure not to harm the baby.
The room was filled with a sensual, intimate atmosphere. On the wall, the lamplight cast the shadows of two intertwined figures.
Quentin truly couldn’t bear to leave on his business trip, but matters abroad required his personal attention.
But no matter how much he hated to, he had to go.
Meanwhile, Jason Summers had been keeping a close watch on Quentin’s movements. The moment Quentin left Lustre, he relayed the news to Charlie Rhodes. Charlie figured his chance had come. He cornered Ruby Sterling and demanded that she deliver Ivy to him before Quentin returned!
Ruby Sterling called Ivy, telling her to come back to the Sherwood residence.
"Why should I come back?" Ivy asked coldly.
Ruby said, "Your father is sick. Aren’t you even going to come back to see him? How did he end up with a daughter like you? You’re completely ungrateful."
’Timothy Sherwood isn’t my real father anyway. And even if he were, any bond between us as father and daughter ended long ago.’
’Timothy Sherwood himself had disowned me, declaring that I was no longer a member of the Sherwood family.’
"You never treated me like family before, but now you suddenly remember me?" Ivy retorted, her tone frigid.
"When did we ever not treat you like family? Growing up, did we ever short you on food or clothing? If it weren’t for us, would you have even survived to this age? Have you forgotten how much money you’ve cost us over the years? You truly are an ungrateful wretch!"
Ruby Sterling simply despised Ivy. She had despised her ever since she was a child.
"How much did I cost you growing up?" Ivy asked.
Ruby said, "And you think it was a small amount? It must have been tens of millions, at least, right?"
"Tens of millions? You’ve got some nerve. Timothy Sherwood barely gave me any allowance. Starting in college, I earned the money for my own tuition. All told, you’d be lucky if you spent one million on me." Ivy couldn’t believe how shameless Ruby was.
When she was little, anytime she wanted to buy something, Ruby and Timothy would say, "What’s the point of buying useless things?"
But for Thea and Claire, their allowance was in the millions every month.
"What do you mean it wasn’t tens of millions? Do you think raising a child is free?"
Ivy said, "Fine. Thirty million. I’ll wire it directly to Timothy Sherwood’s account. Then, we can consider your ’kindness’ in raising me fully repaid."
With that, Ivy hung up. On the other end, Ruby was still sputtering, "Hey? Hey?"
But Ruby wasn’t finished talking. ’That Ivy has really gotten bold,’ she thought, ’thinking she can just cut ties with us for thirty million.’
’After all, Godfather is willing to pay hundreds of millions for her.’
This Ivy was getting really difficult to handle. When Ruby called again, she found that Ivy had already blocked her number.
Left with no other options, Ruby had to think of another way. She even started secretly following Ivy.
The moment she laid eyes on Ivy, she could hardly believe it was her.
’When did that ugly freak Ivy become so beautiful?’
’She was so beautiful it even made me jealous. No wonder she could bring a man like Quentin Blackwood down from his pedestal. And Godfather... he’s so desperate for her, utterly obsessed, always saying how gorgeous she is.’
’Well, I’ll be damned, Ivy. You actually hid this from us the whole time.’
’I lived with her for more than a decade and never knew she was this beautiful.’
But there was always a man by Ivy’s side whom she’d never seen before. He was tall and handsome, and the two of them seemed particularly close, on very good terms.
’Didn’t they say Ivy had married up and was with Quentin Blackwood?’
’The moment Quentin leaves, Ivy can’t stand the loneliness and immediately goes to hook up with another man?’
’Does Quentin know about this?’
Ivy and Miles Mercer had dinner out before returning and entering the Mercer residence together. Ruby had no opportunity to make her move, so she could only wait.
Jason Summers was watching the whole time and naturally knew that this Miles Mercer was also an obstacle.
He had to find a way to get Miles out of the picture as well.
But getting to Miles was no easy feat. The Mercer Family had Xavier and Connor handling their affairs abroad, while Miles was in the country, along with Old Master Mercer.
However, Jason Summers had found an opening. Miles had recently grown close to another woman: Nina Scott.
If he went after Nina Scott, it would be much easier to find a way to lure Miles away.
Yara Scott also ran a fashion studio, so it was inevitable that she would have to go out for business from time to time.
With all the pieces falling into place, an opportunity had finally presented itself.
...
That evening, Ivy and Miles were having dinner together when Ivy’s phone rang. It was an unknown number.
Ivy answered. Ruby Sterling’s voice came through the receiver.
"Ivy, it’s me."
"I already sent the money. What else do you want?" Just hearing Ruby’s voice made Ivy’s stomach turn.
"Oh, nothing much. It’s just that I was cleaning the house the other day and found some of your mother’s old things. Do you want them? If you do, come get them yourself. If not, I’m just going to throw them out."
"My mother’s things? That’s impossible." ’I remember taking everything with me.’
Ruby said, "How should I know? I just found them. If you don’t want them, I’m throwing them away."
"How much do you want? I’ll send someone to pick my mother’s things up." Ivy assumed Ruby was just after more money.
’She knew the Sherwood family was struggling, so Ruby must have some ulterior motive. There had to be a reason she was calling about these supposed belongings now.’
"I don’t need your pocket change. Come get them now. If you’re not here in an hour, I’m throwing them out." Ruby had given her a time limit.
"I’ll send someone else."
"You’re sending someone else to get your own mother’s things? I guess they’re not that important to you after all. In that case, maybe I should just throw them out."
"Wait. How do I know you actually have anything of my mother’s?"
Ruby said, "I’ll send you a photo. You can see for yourself. One hour. If you don’t come, I’m throwing them out."
A moment later, a photo arrived from Ruby. When Ivy saw the items in the picture, her heart skipped a beat. It was indeed her mother’s necklace and earrings—pieces her mother had worn, the very ones she’d been searching for all this time. ’No wonder I could never find them,’ she thought. ’Ruby had them all along.’
’It looked like she had to make a trip to the Sherwood residence after all.’
But for Ruby to be in such a hurry to get her over there... Ivy felt that it couldn’t be that simple.
’Is Ruby planning to do something to me?’
