Wrong Flirt, Right Trouble: His Uncle Pulls Me Close
Chapter 454: Wait For My Return
They left the examination room together and went to the doctor’s office.
The doctor went over a long list of things to be mindful of, and Quentin Blackwood listened intently. He looked even more focused than when he was handling work, as if he wanted to grab a pen and jot everything down.
"Also, even though you’re four months along, you still need to be careful when it comes to intimacy. Nothing too vigorous, understand?"
Ivy Sherwood’s face flushed bright red. "..."
She snuck a glance at Quentin Blackwood, but he looked completely unfazed.
"Understood, Doctor. I’ll be sure to be gentle."
Ivy Sherwood: "!!"
’What does he mean, be gentle? We haven’t even done anything like that!’
The doctor gave a few more instructions and told Ivy Sherwood the date of her next checkup, but Quentin Blackwood kept asking questions—even ones that sounded completely idiotic.
The doctor was starting to look impatient, so Ivy Sherwood quickly dragged Quentin Blackwood away.
Downstairs, a little boy came running over and hugged Ivy Sherwood.
"Miss!" Ivy Sherwood recognized him at once. It was Bobby, the little boy who had been sick.
Bobby’s mother came over as well. "Miss Sherwood."
Ivy Sherwood was surprised. "You know my name?"
"When we went to pay the bill, the nurse told us that a large sum of money had been deposited into our account. I guessed it might have been you, so I asked around. They said it was a young woman named Ivy Sherwood. I even asked to see the security footage and confirmed it was you. Miss Sherwood, thank you."
"Don’t mention it. How is Bobby doing now?"
"He’s doing great. He’s had the surgery and is recovering now. The doctor says he’s healing well. You’re our family’s savior. If it weren’t for you, how could Bobby have gotten his surgery so quickly? As for the money, we will definitely pay you back one day!"
Ivy Sherwood said, "Please, don’t worry about it. Nothing is more important than a life. Once Bobby is out of the hospital, he’ll still need to rest and recover properly. You’ll have to find a place to live and send him to school—all of that costs money. That amount is nothing to me, so just consider it a charitable donation."
"We can’t possibly do that. Miss Sherwood, please give us your contact information. We will definitely pay you back in the future." Bobby’s mother was incredibly grateful.
"Really, there’s no need. I didn’t do much. It was Bobby who was strong. In fact, I should be thanking him."
’Bobby really is adorable. If it weren’t for him, she might have made the wrong choice back then and terminated the pregnancy.’
’Ivy Sherwood still had the piece of candy Bobby had given her.’
"You’re too kind, Miss Sherwood. Is this your boyfriend?"
"He’s not—"
Before Ivy Sherwood could finish, Quentin Blackwood took her hand. "Yes."
Bobby’s mother smiled. "You two are perfect for each other. I wish you all the happiness. May you have a long and happy life together."
"Thank you," Quentin Blackwood said calmly.
"Miss Sherwood, are you feeling unwell? I’ve seen you at the hospital a couple of times now."
Quentin Blackwood said, "She’s here for a prenatal checkup."
"Really? That’s wonderful! Congratulations! I’m sure you’ll have a beautiful baby. Well, Bobby and I won’t disturb you any longer. We’ll get going now."
Bobby’s mother quickly left with her son. Ivy Sherwood swatted him. "Stop spouting nonsense."
"How was I spouting nonsense?"
"That was a patient I’d met before. Their family was struggling, so I helped them out."
What Ivy Sherwood didn’t mention was that when she had met Bobby, she hadn’t wanted the baby in her belly.
"He looks much better than before. I’m really happy for him." Ivy Sherwood’s eyes curved into crescents. Seeing Bobby doing well made her genuinely happy.
A pang went through Quentin Blackwood’s heart. He had known nothing about this.
’If only he had returned to Lustre sooner, he could have been by Ivy Sherwood’s side for all of this.’
After leaving the hospital, Quentin Blackwood led Ivy Sherwood to his car. "I’ll take you home."
"I have other things to do, I’m not going back yet. When exactly are you leaving Lustre?"
"Don’t worry, I’ll be leaving soon. My flight was moved to this afternoon," Quentin Blackwood said, his eyes filled with reluctance to leave her.
"If you’re going to miss me, I’ll come back as soon as I can. Don’t worry, I’m very efficient with my work."
’Of course Ivy knew. Quentin’s work style was relentless—working day and night, skipping sleep, and cramming several days of work into one or two.’
’If Quentin Blackwood’s mother were still alive, her heart would break to see him like this.’
’In the future, I can’t let my child follow their father’s example and become a workaholic.’
"Quentin Blackwood, a person’s energy is finite. Once you’ve used it all up, the consequences can be dire. If you don’t rest properly and your mind is foggy, it’s easy for accidents to happen."
"I know." A small smile touched Quentin Blackwood’s lips. ’Ivy’s worried about me!’
"I’m just reminding you that a person needs at least seven hours of sleep a day. Lack of rest over a long period can lead to sudden death. If you have some kind of accident, it has nothing to do with me!"
"I get it. I promise I’ll sleep every day, alright? But you know I have a sleep disorder... so can I call you at night?"
"You don’t even have to talk. Just put the phone beside you. I just want to listen to you breathe."
His eyes were deep, filled with intense emotion.
Ivy Sherwood didn’t dare to meet his gaze. "Absolutely not," she said.
’Even real couples don’t do things like that, and they weren’t even a couple to begin with. It sounds so incredibly sappy.’
"Then if I call you, you have to pick up. I want to hear your voice every day."
Ivy Sherwood pushed him. "You should hurry up and go. My brother is coming to pick me up soon."
Quentin Blackwood said, "Then I’ll wait. I’ll feel better once I see him pick you up."
"I’m an adult, what’s there to worry about? Are you telling me you haven’t already arranged for people to watch over me?"
Quentin Blackwood was at a loss for words. He had, in fact, arranged for people to be near Ivy Sherwood.
There were far too many things for Quentin Blackwood to worry about. Who knew if someone else was secretly coveting Ivy Sherwood? Who knew what dangers might be lurking in the shadows?
After all, they were out in the open, while others were in the dark.
While he was away, having people discreetly follow Ivy Sherwood was a form of protection.
It wasn’t just because Ivy Sherwood was pregnant; Quentin Blackwood had a persistent feeling that something else was about to happen.
Ivy Sherwood asked, "What time is your flight?"
It was already almost one in the afternoon.
"Two o’clock," Quentin Blackwood said.
"It takes half an hour to get to the airport from here, even without traffic. You’d better get going, or you’ll miss it."
"It’s fine. I can just rebook it again later. Let me take you to lunch. What would you like to eat?"
"No, thanks. You should get going. I’ll just send you a message after I get home."
"Alright, then. Call me when you get home."
Ivy Sherwood thought for a moment, then nodded. "Fine."
’Besides, even if she did call, Quentin Blackwood would be on the plane and wouldn’t be able to answer anyway.’
As Ivy Sherwood turned to leave, Quentin Blackwood called out from behind her, "Ivy."
Ivy Sherwood froze. A moment later, she was pulled into an embrace from behind.
The man’s voice was deep and low. "Wait for me to come back."
