World Evolution: Starting With The Wind Monarch
Chapter 143: Power Of Wind Monarch Skill (Part 1)
[You have cleared the fourth wave.]
[The fifth wave will begin in two hours.]
As soon as the notifications flashed, Alice slumped into her chair, panting heavily and looking pale.
Although she had used up almost all her Mana with her previous skill and was feeling extremely weak, her eyes were bright, and she wore a smug smile on her face.
Evan’s mouth couldn’t help but twitch when he saw this, and he complained inwardly.
’Every single skill she uses consumes almost all her Mana. Is she really that fond of large-area-of-effect destructive skills?’
Liam and the others were also speechless when they saw this.
After a moment, Erza asked in a low voice, "Is that also a new skill you learned recently?"
"Hmm." Alice nodded and smiled slightly. "Isn’t it powerful?"
Erza remained silent for a moment before nodding.
"It’s indeed powerful. But don’t you think you’re learning too many skills that are nothing but pure destruction?"
"It’s fine..." Alice waved her hand. "As long as it can help you destroy your enemies, it’s good."
"I feel like her urge to destroy things has been constantly increasing ever since she met Evan," Kevin couldn’t help but mutter in a low voice.
"Indeed," Liam nodded. "Previously, although she liked causing destruction, it was limited. But now that there’s Evan, who’s also someone who likes causing explosions with his crossbow, I think Alice feels challenged. That’s why she learned new skills to compete with him in terms of destructive power."
Alice stiffened slightly upon hearing Liam’s words and immediately shook her head.
"What are you talking about? I have had my eyes on Volcanic Eruption and Flame Wheel skills for quite some time. Since I had enough points after our last mission, I simply redeemed them. It has nothing to do with competing in terms of destruction."
Evan and the others looked at Alice’s flustered expression and wanted to tell her to learn how to lie before attempting to do so. However, considering their friend’s dignity, they nodded without exposing her.
"Yes, yes. You didn’t learn those skills to compete in terms of destructive power," Erza said before shifting her attention to Evan.
"You will be taking care of the last wave, right?"
Evan looked at her with a confused expression, wondering why she was asking such an obvious question. Although he was puzzled, he still nodded.
Seeing him nod, Erza smiled slightly and spoke.
"How about you take care of the final wave without using your crossbow? You know, it’s not good to rely too much on your artifact."
Evan raised an eyebrow at Erza’s words. However, after thinking about how much he had been relying on his Arch Eagle Crossbow recently, he nodded.
’I can also check how strong my Wind Monarch skill has become with my current stats.’ He thought, and a look of anticipation appeared on his face.
"Hey, I don’t think that’s a good idea," Kevin said seriously. "There were one hundred and fifty monsters in the fourth wave, and there’ll definitely be even more in the final one. You shouldn’t take unnecessary risks."
"Kevin is right," Liam agreed. "Fighting hundreds of monsters without using your strongest weapon is sheer stupidity."
Evan smiled slightly at Liam’s words and asked, "When did I say this crossbow is my strongest weapon?"
"Huh?" Alice and the others were taken aback by Evan’s words.
"You mean you have something even more powerful than your crossbow?"
Evan nodded, then shook his head.
"If we are only talking about artifacts, then the Arch Eagle Crossbow is indeed one of my strongest artifacts. But in the end, it’s just that... an artifact." Evan looked at them and spoke calmly. "My strongest reliance has never been on artifacts but on the skills I’ve learned."
"Your skills?" Kevin was taken aback by his response.
Evan nodded and explained, "The reason the bolts fired from this crossbow are so powerful is that I create them using my skills instead of pure Mana. If I use pure Mana to create bolts instead of my skills, their power decreases greatly. Moreover, it’s not just a single skill but a combination of multiple skills."
The ordinary Mana bolts fired by the Arch Eagle Crossbow were indeed powerful. However, without the Wind Bolts created through Wind Monarch and other skills, such as the Thunder Field skill of his Thunder Ring or Touch of Thunder, the bolts’ power would be considerably lower than what Alice and the others had witnessed.
Upon hearing Evan’s explanation, looks of understanding appeared on Liam and the others’ faces.
"So those bolts are a bit like my Blood Field Arrow from earlier. A combination of an artifact and a skill," Erza muttered in a low voice.
"Yes," Evan nodded. "That’s why I said that even though this crossbow is powerful, it’s not my strongest means of fighting. My greatest strength has always been the skills I’ve learned."
He looked toward the far end of the platform, and his eyes gleamed slightly.
"And I also want to see how strong my skills can become when I push them to their limits."
Alice and the others exchanged glances upon hearing him but didn’t say anything.
Besides, they weren’t that far away from him. If they saw him having difficulty dealing with the monsters, they could always step in to help.
Soon, two hours passed, and a notification flashed before everyone’s eyes.
[The fifth wave will begin now.]
As soon as the notification appeared, Evan and the others looked toward the far end of the platform and saw a massive horde of monsters charging toward them.
"Dear God..." Kevin sucked in a breath of cold air when he saw the enormous horde charging toward them, goosebumps rising all over his body.
"There are at least three hundred of them," Liam said, immediately standing up while gripping his daggers.
"It was only an increase of thirty or forty monsters in the previous wave, but the number has practically doubled this time," Alice said, her expression turning serious as three hundred Rank One monsters were no joke.
Although very few were at the peak of Rank One and most were at Level 35 or below, their sheer numbers still put tremendous pressure on the team.
Evan looked at the army of charging monsters before him, and his eyes narrowed slightly.
Without saying anything, he activated Wings of Wind and flew toward the horde of monsters.
"Hey, are you still planning to take care of them alone?" Liam couldn’t help but shout when he saw this.
"Don’t worry," Evan replied without looking back. "I should be able to take care of them."
"This guy..." Alice shook her head before her expression turned serious.
"Be ready. If things get dangerous, we’ll help him immediately."
Liam and the others nodded and watched Evan stop in the center of the platform, hovering one hundred meters above the ground.
He looked down at the charging monsters and a green light flashed in his eyes.
"Let’s begin."
