World Evolution: Starting With The Wind Monarch

Chapter 133: Competing Against A Wing Elf (Part 2)

  • Next Chapter

As soon as Evan and Adam stepped onto the ring, their respective Rank Two phantom trees began attacking them with their branches.

The speed of the attacks was much faster than that of the Rank One tree Evan had faced earlier.

Moreover, the number of attacking branches was already over fifteen right from the beginning.

The phantom trees’ branches moved like flexible snakes, lashing at them like whips.

’It’s not very difficult to dodge them for now. But as time passes and the number of branches increases, it’ll become harder to avoid them...’ Evan thought and glanced at Adam beside him.

Like Evan, Adam wasn’t using any skills or Mana to dodge the branches yet.

Judging by his movements, Evan estimated that Adam’s Agility was definitely over 400 points.

He wasn’t surprised by this, as Adam was already Level 50. Moreover, he was someone who focused more on his Agility, making it his highest stat, followed by his Stamina and Mana.

Unlike Evan, whose stats were all close to one another, most Evolvers didn’t have such balanced stats. In most cases, they had one dominant stat that was significantly higher than the others.

The other students watched the two of them moving rapidly around the small ring with awe-struck expressions.

"As expected of Adam! He’s dodging the attacks of a Rank Two phantom tree so easily," A student who was also a Winged Elf said when he saw how Adam was evading the attacks without using any skills.

"I’m more surprised by that human’s Agility and reaction speed. He’s only Level 37, yet he’s also dodging the attacks without using any skills," Another student said when he saw Evan dodging the attacks just as well as Adam.

Soon, five minutes passed.

Suddenly, both phantom trees shook slightly, and ten new branches emerged from each tree. Now, twenty-five branches were attacking them simultaneously.

For the first minute, both of them handled the attacks without much difficulty. However, the attack patterns of the branches soon changed, and all twenty-five branches began attacking them from different angles simultaneously.

Evan was taken aback by the sudden change in the attack pattern, and one of the branches nearly hit him. Fortunately, he reacted quickly and dodged it in time.

Adam was also caught off guard by the change in the attack pattern. However, as a student of the academy, he knew that the attack patterns would change from time to time so he immediately reacted and successfully dodged the branches as well.

The eyes of most of the students watching from below widened when Evan avoided getting hit even after the attack patterns changed.

"Just what is this human? How can he still dodge these attacks?" Another peak Rank One Winged Elf asked in a voice filled with disbelief as he had no confidence in his own ability to dodge those attacks.

"Now I’m really starting to suspect that this guy is hiding his true level. There’s no way a Level 37 Evolver can last this long."

Evan paid no attention to the people below, as his entire attention was focused on dodging the trees’ attacks.

Even though his Agility was higher than Adam’s, he was actually having a hard time dodging the branches because it was the first time he had faced a situation like this.

At the same time, because he couldn’t properly control his strength, Evan began to feel slightly tired despite his high Stamina.

’As I thought, my strength has increased far too rapidly recently, and I still don’t have proper control over it,’ Evan thought as he jumped back slightly and immediately ducked to dodge two branches attacking him simultaneously.

’I can’t keep going like this. I’ll run out of Stamina if I don’t do something.’

Without hesitation, Evan activated his Wind Monarch skill, causing Wind Aura to appear around him and further increasing his Agility.

Although he really wanted to rely solely on his base stats, as the pressure from the phantom tree was very helpful for training himself to properly control his strength, he could do that later.

For now, he simply wanted to win so that he could get Adam’s Storage Ring and those extraordinary-looking boots.

After activating Wind Aura and increasing his Agility further, Evan was able to dodge the attacks much more easily, and the pressure he had been feeling from the twenty-five branches disappeared completely.

"He used his skill before Adam!" The students’ eyes lit up when they saw Evan activate his skill before Adam.

However, just as Evan activated Wind Aura, Adam also made his move and used his own skill to reduce the pressure he was experiencing.

The wings on Adam’s back suddenly radiated a white light, and his Agility increased significantly.

After activating their skills, both Evan and Adam were once again able to dodge the phantom trees’ attacks with ease.

But that didn’t last long. When ten minutes had passed, the number of attacking branches increased from twenty-five to thirty-five, and Evan and Adam began feeling the pressure once again.

’This guy is better than I expected,’ Evan thought when he saw that Adam was still able to dodge the phantom tree’s attacks.

Although Adam was also having a hard time, he continued evading the branches.

’Looks like Winged Elves aren’t famous for their Agility for nothing.’

A faint smile appeared on Evan’s face as he dodged the attacks with even greater focus, pushing himself to his limits.

Soon, another five minutes passed, and the number of branches increased further.

Adam and Evan were already panting heavily, and sweat trickled down their foreheads as they moved around the ring.

"If it were me, I would’ve collapsed from exhaustion a long time ago," A student muttered in a low voice, looking at the panting Evan and Adam.

"We already know Adam is one of the best among the Winged Elves when it comes to Agility and Stamina, so it’s not surprising that he can last this long. But what the hell is wrong with this human? He’s only Level 37, yet he can compete with Adam in both Agility and Stamina!" A High Elf spoke, disbelief written all over his face.

Soon, both Evan and Adam began running out of Stamina, and things became even worse when ten more branches emerged from each tree five minutes later.

Evan dodged a branch, but another suddenly came from behind and attacked him.

Evan pushed Wind Aura and his Agility to their limits, barely managing to evade the attack.

Adam wasn’t doing any better and was also barely managing to dodge the branches.

He looked at Evan and saw that he was struggling to evade the attacks as well.

Seeing Evan struggle, a faint smile appeared on Adam’s exhausted face, and the boots he was wearing suddenly lit up.

As the boots glowed, his Agility increased dramatically, allowing him to keep up with the attacks once again, at least to some extent.

Evan noticed Adam’s move but wasn’t surprised, as he had already guessed that the boots Adam was wearing weren’t ordinary.

"It’s over for that human. He won’t be able to dodge the attacks at his current speed for much longer."

"But it’s already very impressive. Not everyone can face a Rank Two phantom tree for so long at his current level."

Alice listened to the students’ conversation, but when she looked at Evan’s face, she noticed that although he looked exhausted, there was no panic in his eyes.

Just then—

Crackle!

Everyone suddenly heard the sound of lightning crackling and saw numerous arcs of lightning appearing around Evan, increasing his speed dramatically.

By using Touch of Thunder on his Wind Monarch skill, Evan increased the skill’s power by 30%. Since Wind Aura was part of the Wind Monarch skill, its power also increased by 30%, further boosting Evan’s Agility.

"What the hell?!"

The students were stunned when they saw purple lightning arcs surrounding Evan and watched as he once again dodged the phantom tree’s attacks with ease.

"This guy even has a Lightning skill in addition to his Wind skill to increase his Agility!" A Winged Elf exclaimed in disbelief, wondering why someone would learn two skills just to increase their Agility.

However, he didn’t know that neither of the two skills Evan was using had been designed simply to increase his Agility.

Adam, who had used the ability of his boots to increase his Agility, also looked at Evan with a grave expression.

The ability of his boots would only last for five minutes. On the other hand, Evan was using his own skill, which meant he could maintain its effects for as long as he had enough Mana.

’Sh*t! I shouldn’t have bet my boots against this human bastard!’ Adam cursed inwardly, breaking out in a cold sweat.

Evan was also aware that Adam wouldn’t be able to maintain his current performance for much longer and once the effect of his boots wore off, it would be game over for him.

Keeping his focus on the tree, Evan continued dodging branches and waited for Adam’s boots to run out of power.

Just as he had expected, the effect of the boots’ skill ended after five minutes, and Adam’s Agility decreased.

As soon as his Agility dropped, Adam’s expression changed when he saw a branch coming toward him at astonishing speed.

He tried to dodge it, but he was a step too slow, and the branch struck the side of his arm.

As soon as he was hit, a glowing mark appeared on his arm, and the phantom tree stopped attacking.

Evan smiled when he saw this and jumped down from the ring as well, bringing the match to an end.
