Chapter 484: Chapter 355: Black Iron Law? No, Divine Law
Little World - Soron Laboratory
Three years ago, after the Black Knight surrendered and the War was declared over, he didn’t go around gathering resources like Angel’s Servant Demon. Instead, he found a place to hole up and conduct his research.
He had three research projects: Star Mage, Star Knight, and the goblin physical modification ritual.
The first was a task from Isaac. He was primarily responsible for collecting basic data and conducting some preliminary studies to prepare for Isaac’s research. The latter two were his own projects.
Strictly speaking, the last two could actually be considered a single project: the goblin modification ritual.
Soron had always believed that goblins had great potential. Though they were ugly and weak, they... still had great potential!
After all, he was one of them, wasn’t he?
Of course, that was just how others saw it. The real reason Soron believed goblins had great potential was that they, along with the Goblin Slayer, were a component of a Great Creation.
To have been chosen by a Great Wizard, they surely had to have some special trait. If he could identify that trait and elevate it, perhaps he could create a Tier Three goblin!
Unfortunately, while he had found the trait, technical issues prevented him from elevating it.
Because the goblins’ special trait was very simple: they were prolific breeders!
A single litter could easily produce over a dozen goblins!
During their peak fertile period, they could produce several litters in a single month!
And, just like Giant Dragons, they had no reproductive isolation!
Worse, in places with abundant Magic Power, they could even reproduce asexually—literally sprouting right out of the damn ground!
It was utterly absurd.
To this day, it’s impossible to know whether this absurd trait was inherent to goblins or something bestowed upon them by the Great Wizard.
In short, this was the goblins’ special trait, and it was also one of the key reasons Soron believed that Goblin Slayers of goblin origin could repeatedly break their limits and grow to the Tier Two Peak.
But that was as far as it went. Just as Agares had believed back then, even though Soron had poured a great deal of effort into the Goblin Slayer ritual, reaching the Tier Two Peak via this ritual was the absolute limit.
This was a problem with the Goblin Slayer Extraordinary Path itself, not with his work.
After all, the Goblin Slayer Extraordinary Path was originally created to be a stepping stone to other Extraordinary Paths, making it easier for humans to begin their journey into the extraordinary. As such, its potential was naturally low.
Of course, this didn’t mean Soron’s research was meaningless. The fact that he could use it to advance all the way to Tier Three—even with the aid of power from the Dimension World—was proof enough of his research’s depth.
After all, Soron was Isaac’s Dimension Apostle. Even though he shared some Anchor Points with Isaac, his promotions were still more difficult than for a Legendary Mage of the same level. The fact that he could reach Tier Three this way spoke volumes about its value.
But even though he had reached the limit, Soron had no intention of giving up. ’If I’ve hit a limit, then I just need to break it. Isn’t that how the Wizard’s Path has always progressed, step by step?’
His line of thinking for future research was similar to what Agares had suggested. The Goblin Slayers’ techniques were quite refined, and their goblin nature as a Demon race gave them Magic Power that a normal Goblin Slayer wouldn’t possess. What they truly lacked was physical strength—or to be more precise, potential.
Therefore, simply fusing the hulking goblins with the Goblin Slayer goblins, as Agares had envisioned, would be completely ineffective.
The hulking goblins were created by enhancing them at any cost, using various Magic Potions combined with Dimensional Magic Power. Their bodies were strong, but their potential...
’Ever heard of negative potential?’
’That’s what these things were.’
The general idea was right, at least.
Therefore, Soron had to find another path. Fortunately, in this Little World, it wasn’t just the bigwigs like Isaac who were reaping rewards. Soron, too, had encountered a potential solution: the Star Knights!
After carefully studying this world’s Extraordinary Paths, Soron discovered something very strange: whether they were Knights or Casters, their paths were all inextricably linked to the Star God.
The foundation of the Star Mage’s Path is the Shadow of the Star God; one only gains Casting Ability by forming a connection with it.
Although the foundation of the Knight’s path was still the Breathing Skill and Furnace Skill originating from the Real World, its overall framework was deeply influenced by this world. When these Knights break through to a new realm, they don’t need to train their bodies and temper their will in battle like other Knights.
They only need to undergo a simple modification surgery, much like Wizards from the Real World. If they survive, they receive the Star God’s Blessing and complete their promotion.
The mortality rate is admittedly a teensy bit high—by a billion points or so—but its advantages are undeniable. At the very least, these people aren’t weak after their promotion, and so far, there don’t appear to be any side effects.
That’s right, no side effects. Whether it was the Star Mages or the Star Knights, both paths were highly dependent on the power of the Star God. However, after his own research and a general analysis by Isaac, they had both concluded that it was harmless.
The reason was simple: while it was called the power of the Star God, the "Star God" it referred to was extremely vague. This was highly abnormal. In the power systems of Deities, the true name carries significant weight; after all, it is the Anchor Point for Faith.
