Wizard: Scamming a Demon God

Chapter 476: Chapter 351: So, Gou Dan, What Is the Price?
Although Soron and Agares did their best to hide their tracks, the moment they took action, they were inevitably discovered by the native search parties.
However, by the time the natives reacted and began massing troops in a town not far from the duo’s Barrier, Agares had already completed his preparations.
Demon Dominators excelled at large-scale warfare because they could use their Demon Summoning ability to quickly raise a massive army of Demons!
And not just low-level Demons, either!
Unlike conventional Summoning Magic, which was limited to summoning weaker entities, Demon Summoning could be used to call forth Demons even more powerful than the Caster!
This was also the most dangerous aspect of the Demon Dominator path. It was a double-edged sword: properly controlled, it was an immense power, but if control was lost...
...the resulting devastation would be catastrophic!
Fortunately, as a Tier Three High-level Wizard, Agares was quite confident in this regard. He applied a Magic Technique to the summoned Demons, restricting them to Tier Three or below, with a hard limit of no more than five Tier Three Demons at any one time.
This was because if six Tier Three Demons joined forces, they could summon a Tier Four Demon, which would cause the entire situation to spiral out of control.
For this reason, Agares rarely summoned so many Demons. Most of the time, he would only summon two or three High-level Demons, which was enough to solve ninety percent of his problems. There was no need to take unnecessary risks.
This time, however, he could be a little bolder. After all, he had the leader’s support.
Agares touched the pocket watch on his chest, and the anxiety from his bold actions began to subside. He glanced at the Transcendents still gathering endlessly outside the Barrier, paid them no mind, and turned to look for Soron.
Although both of them were Tier Three, Soron was taking the lead on this operation. This was not only because Soron had a closer relationship with their leader, but also because, when it came to research ability, Soron was his superior.
Therefore, if they captured a Star Mage in the coming battle, the captive would be handed over to Soron for research. Only if they captured a spare, and if the battle wasn’t too perilous, would Agares be allowed to participate in the research.
Agares wasn’t the least bit upset about this. In the world of Wizards, strength was what mattered, and in this context, that meant research ability.
And clearly, by rising from a mere goblin to his current status as a Tier Three High-level Wizard, Soron had more than proven his talent and aptitude for research. Considering both his power and his background, Agares had no reason to feel dissatisfied.
But when he returned to Soron’s side, even as a worldly and experienced High-level Wizard, the sight of a new goblin in tattered armor standing next to Soron made his brain short-circuit. ’A goblin that’s a Goblin Slayer... Is that even possible?’
Agares had seen both Goblins and Goblin Slayers before. In fact, he had even been one of the latter for a time!
When he first became a Wizard, his combat effectiveness was quite low because he knew very few spells. Unlike Arcanists, who possessed a systematic arsenal of offensive and support Magic, he found that despite his status as a noble Caster, few Adventurer parties were willing to take him on.
So, to make a living and improve his strength, he had worked as a Goblin Slayer for a while. After all, you could improve your physical constitution just by killing goblins—it was an incredibly simple method!
One could say that being a Goblin Slayer was the starting point for most Adventurers.
But... could a goblin become a Goblin Slayer?
Even for a monster, wasn’t this a little too twisted?
"This is... a Goblin Slayer?" Agares walked over to Soron, completely baffled, his bewildered eyes fixed on the goblin beside him, which wore tattered armor, carried a bow on its back, and had a short sword at its waist.
Judging by its aura, it was unmistakably both a goblin and a Goblin Slayer!
But in terms of its power...
He had never seen a Tier Two Upper Goblin Slayer!
No, to be precise, before Soron, he had never even seen a Tier Two goblin!
Goblins, as a species of monster, had an astonishing reproduction rate, but their potential was also notoriously low. It was considered a stroke of incredible luck for one to reach Tier One; anything beyond that was virtually impossible.
The same was true for Goblin Slayers. The essence of this Path of the Extraordinary was to use the power of a ritual to strengthen one’s body, but this enhancement had an upper limit. This was one reason why Adventurers didn’t stay on this path for long.
Besides the low pay, the most fundamental reason was its lack of long-term prospects.
And yet, Soron had somehow created a Tier Two Upper Goblin Slayer!
If other Adventurers found out about this, wouldn’t they go insane?
’No, on second thought, maybe not...’
Agares suddenly had a realization. Stroking his chin, he asked, "How many goblins did this Goblin Slayer of yours have to kill?!"
The Goblin Slayer ritual not only had a ceiling to its enhancement, but the process was also highly inefficient. Generally, only Adventurers of common birth chose this path. Anyone with a better option would avoid being a Goblin Slayer.
As a former Goblin Slayer himself, Agares could speak on this with authority!
"I’ve lost count," Soron said, shaking his head. "They were all raised by slaughtering one another, so who knows how many they killed. In any case, even without the usual limits, the number of goblins required to reach this level would be astronomical. Only Isaac’s Immortal and Undying Dimension Apostles could support my experiment—it’s like pulling yourself up by your own bootstraps."
