Wizard: Scamming a Demon God

Chapter 473 - 350: Black Knight vs. Void Demon Spirit 2

  • Next Chapter

Void Demon Spirits were humanoid Demons that resembled specters. Draped in purple robes, their translucent forms contained an incredibly bizarre Void Magic Power. Existing in a state between illusion and reality, they were immune to physical attacks. Only energy-based attacks could harm them.

At least, that was how it was supposed to be.

But after being enhanced by the Void Witch's Divine Power, these Void Demon Spirits gained extremely high resistance to energy attacks as well. One-on-one, an ordinary Tier Three practitioner was no match for them at all.

However, this wasn't Isaac's true countermeasure. After all, the Black Knight was Tier Four.

And a Tier Four who specialized in fighting Deities, at that.

Sure enough, the Void Demon Spirits, which were so troublesome for Tier Three practitioners, were crushed by the Black Knight in a single clash.

But this was all within Isaac's expectations. The corners of his lips quirked up as he gave a light wave of his right hand. The Void Witch behind him immediately nodded. Her hands, reminiscent of a starlit night, interlaced before her ample chest. Then, a set of scales materialized behind her.

As the scales appeared, the Void Witch's aura visibly waned. A cluster of brilliant purple Divine Power materialized on one pan of the scales, which then dropped rapidly. When it hit the bottom, the figure of a Void Demon Spirit appeared on the other pan.

A moment later, the scales balanced out. An aura, originating from the same source as the World Wall, now emanated from this Tier Four Void Demon Spirit.

SWOOSH!

Without a moment's hesitation, under the Void Witch's control, the Void Demon Spirit instantly passed through the World Wall and charged toward the Black Knight.

"Hmm? What's going on?" Philo's brow furrowed. She looked from the scales behind the Void Witch to the Void Demon Spirit passing through the World Wall, her expression tightening in confusion. She had no idea what was happening.

Isaac, of course, wasn't about to explain it to Philo. The Void Balance was the Void Witch's exclusive Divine Artifact. It operated on the principle of equivalent exchange; by paying a certain price, it could influence forces that possessed the Divine Power of the Void to some extent.

If enough Divine Power were accumulated, it could even strengthen the Void Witch to the level of a Pseudo-Tier Five!

'But accumulating that much Divine Power…'

Isaac only entertained the thought for a moment. Setting that aside, the Void Balance was still a remarkably versatile Divine Artifact. For instance, right now, it was sacrificing the Divine Power accumulated by both the Void Witch and the Void Balance itself in exchange for granting a Tier Four Void Demon Spirit the right to cross the World Wall.

'The only shame is that this ability can't be used on me,' Isaac thought. 'Otherwise, things would be much simpler.'

Meanwhile, the Black Knight, having just dispatched the Tier Three Void Demon Spirits, saw another one charging at him—this one with a much more powerful aura. His pupils contracted, and his speeding figure came to a halt as a black-and-white brilliance converged on the longsword in his hand.

The next moment, he swung his longsword. The Silver Power of the Law intertwined with the Knight's Power from the Star God, forming a black-and-white wave of Sword Qi that swept toward the Void Demon Spirit.

HISS!

The Void Demon Spirit didn't try to tank the blow with its racial traits. After all, the cautionary tale of its kin was fresh in its mind. This human's power—be it the black energy or the white—could largely bypass its innate advantages on its own, let alone when the two were woven together.

'Tank the hit?'

'What's the difference between that and asking to die?'

'Even though we Void Demon Spirits can't truly die.'

Facing the incoming sword light, the Void Demon Spirit let out a low hum. Layers of purple, crystalline Void condensed before it, forming a barrier.

BANG!

However, the Void barrier couldn't fully stop the black-and-white sword light. It held for a moment before completely shattering!

Though he rarely faced external foes, this wasn't the Black Knight's first time fighting alongside Gandalf. He was quite adept at using the power of the Silver Law. That black-and-white sword light was one of the signature moves he had perfected over many years of research.

With this move, they had defeated countless Outer Realm High-level Creatures, repelled innumerable invasions for their world, and brought back a wealth of resources.

The only regret was that they didn't dare make contact with the powerful Wizards of Paradise. As a result, Gandalf could only vaguely sense the existence of the Golden Law, a power above the Silver Law. He had even learned the name "Golden Law" from a Tier Four Lava Demon.

'I can't even imagine it,' the Black Knight thought. 'The combination of the Silver Law and my own power is already this formidable. If it were the Golden Law instead, just how much stronger would I be?'

Glancing at Isaac beyond the sky, the Black Knight sighed. A thought he had long suppressed resurfaced. 'The limitations of this world…'

But the thought vanished as quickly as it came. He was in the middle of a battle; it was no time for distractions.

The Black Knight quickly refocused, and his perception spread out like a tidal wave.

Although his sword light had shattered the Void barrier, it had been delayed for a crucial moment. This brief obstruction allowed the Void Demon Spirit to break free from the attack's lock and slip into the Void.

But the Black Knight could sense it. 'That thing is still nearby!'

It had entered his world, but instead of taking the opportunity to hide and wreak havoc, it wanted to fight him.

Yes, a fight.

An intention the Black Knight found very strange.

'I'm currently bound by some unknown Magic and can't move freely. The Void Demon Spirit could easily use this chance to slip into the world below and cause far greater destruction. Why is it tangling with me here? What could it possibly gain?'

The Black Knight didn't understand.

But regardless, he had to deal with this Void Demon Spirit first.

'Otherwise, I'll never get a chance to interrupt what those three up there are doing!'

The Black Knight remained on high alert, scanning his surroundings. Isaac, however, watched the Knight with curiosity. 'This guy is a little strange. Why hasn't he used his Authority yet?'

Unlike Casters, not all of whom awaken an Authority upon reaching Tier Three, this seemed to be a privilege unique to Wizards from the Real World. Star Mages, at least, lacked this trait, which was why they relied on Laws.

But Knights were different. They were a Great Creation, and their Cultivation methods had spread throughout the entire Boundless Void. Knights from a Little World were largely the same as those from the Real World. Their paths were also divided into the Path of the Gods and the Path of the Demon Beasts, and naturally, they also possessed an Authority.

'But… why isn't he using it?'

'Is it out of disdain? Or is it impractical? Or perhaps…'

'…he's being influenced by the Star God?'

Isaac's eyes narrowed slightly as he continued to observe the battle between the Black Knight and the Void Demon Spirit.

High in the sky of the Little World, within another layer of the Void, the Void Demon Spirit roamed, slowly closing in on the Black Knight, its claws beginning to glow with a strange light.

The next moment, just as their figures overlapped, ten sharp claw marks suddenly materialized from the Void, about to strike the Black Knight!

The Black Knight's pupils shrank. A black-and-white aura flared around his body, blocking the fatal blow. At the same time, he thrust his longsword backhanded through a crack in Space and into the Void!

PFFT!

The blade followed the fissure, tearing through the Void and leaving a massive gash across the Void Demon Spirit's chest.

If it hadn't reacted so quickly, that single strike would have cleaved its Magic Core and its body in two.

In the Void, the Demon Spirit's body healed rapidly, showing no external wounds. But its diminished aura was proof that the blow had not been easy to endure.

The Void Demon Spirit looked at the Black Knight, who was once again standing silently in mid-air. A wary look filled its eyes. 'This guy… he's clearly a Knight, but he's fighting like an assassin!'

This gave it a headache.

The Power of the Void was indeed potent. When used for assassination, it was utterly undetectable.

But its greatest drawback was that if it encountered an enemy who specialized in assassination, this advantage was mostly nullified.

The reason was simple: the Power of the Void was so perfectly suited for assassination, so uniquely advantageous, that Void Demon Spirits were the equals of powerful assassins without needing any practice. It was all talent and no technique.

But when faced with a true master, they would be caught and counter-attacked, and they had absolutely no way to deal with it…
