Chapter 682: Chapter 74: Extraordinary Bloodline, Superhuman Transformation
But the fourth ray grazed his wingtip, taking a feather and a small piece of flesh with it.
The twelve ice lances in front of Celeine shot out simultaneously.
They collided with the rays of light, sending shards of ice flying.
The light pierced through the curtain of ice, grazing her cheek and leaving a shallow, bloody gash.
Elarius clapped his hands together.
A stone wall rose up.
The light struck the stone wall, sending stone fragments flying as the wall collapsed with a crash.
The ray of light dissipated as well.
Valerius crossed his claws, tearing the ray of light before him to shreds.
A few more scales on the tips of his claws shattered.
"Lady Douglas," Aurelius began, his voice raspy and low as it was forced from the eagle’s throat. "You had already left. Why have you returned!"
As he spoke, his form changed once more.
He transformed from a golden eagle into a giant lion wreathed in flames.
Its four hooves trod upon the void as it lunged toward Cheris.
Flames billowed from its mane, burning half the sky crimson.
Cheris didn’t even spare him a glance.
She traced a circle in the air with her right hand.
A shield of pure white light unfolded before her.
The giant lion crashed into the light shield, sending flames splashing everywhere. The shield didn’t move an inch.
Cheris’s left hand emerged from behind the shield, her fingertip aimed at the giant lion’s head.
A beam of white light shot out from her fingertip.
It pierced through flame, pierced through scale.
It entered the giant lion’s left shoulder and exited through its right hip.
The beam continued onward, shooting toward the horizon.
A moment later, a deep, muffled boom echoed, and the ground trembled slightly.
Where the white light had vanished, a small hill was gone.
Only a semicircular crater, still steaming with heat, remained.
Aurelius tumbled several times in the air before reverting to his human form, half-kneeling in the sky.
A fist-sized hole had appeared on his right shoulder.
Blood gushed from the hole, streaming down his arm.
"My world," Cheris said, her voice ice-cold. "I come and go as I please."
Celeine gritted her teeth.
She swung her remaining hand forcefully.
The twelve ice lances re-formed, longer, thicker, and sharper than before.
The tips of the lances were wreathed in a pale blue frost, and even the air around them crackled as it froze.
The twelve ice lances shot out simultaneously.
They sealed off all of Cheris’s escape routes—front, back, left, right, above, and below. There were no blind spots.
Cheris raised her left hand, palm facing outward, and gently clenched her hand.
The twelve ice lances stopped dead in front of her.
It was as if an invisible hand had seized them by the throat.
Then, her five fingers slowly closed.
The twelve ice lances began to shatter from their tips, crumbling inch by inch into ice dust.
The ice dust condensed into crystals in the air, which in turn melted into water.
The drops splattered onto the ground, blasting out twelve large, muddy craters.
"We were never meant to be enemies!" Valerius’s voice came from behind.
His one good eye was bloodshot, his voice almost a roar.
"Our enemy is the Shaping Domain! They are the ones with ambitions for this world! Lady Douglas, you should know their methods better than any of us!"
He charged forward as he spoke.
The scales on his claws grew back, thicker and denser than before.
The tips of his claws gleamed with a Dark Gold light.
He continuously changed form as he charged.
From human, he became a four-armed giant.
From the giant, a pangolin covered in sharp barbs.
And from the pangolin, a giant python completely covered in armored plates.
Cheris watched the giant python charge toward her.
The toe of her little black leather shoe tapped gently on the void.
The air beneath her foot exploded.
A circular shockwave spread out from under her foot.
The giant python was struck by the shockwave.
Its body, like a whip being cracked, flipped an untold number of times in the air.
It slammed heavily into the ground, gouging out a deep crater several hundred meters wide.
Valerius, now back in human form, lay at the bottom of the crater, without a single patch of unbroken skin on his entire body.
"We only wish to protect our home," Elarius said, his voice old and weary. "We do not want to be your enemy. Lady Douglas, you have a home of your own. Surely you can understand how we feel."
As he spoke, his body began to expand.
He changed from a gaunt old man into a giant beast covered in rock.
The beast’s four limbs were as thick as mountain pillars, and a row of sharp stone spires grew from its spine.
With every step it took, the void trembled.
He opened his mouth, and scorching magma surged from deep within his throat, spewing toward Cheris.
Wherever the magma passed, the air warped and distorted from the heat, and the ground below cracked under the searing temperatures.
Cheris raised a hand.
White light gathered in her palm, forming a massive wall of ice.
The magma crashed against the ice wall, creating a deafening HISS.
White steam billowed out, obscuring half the sky.
When the steam cleared, a third of the ice wall had melted.
The magma was also spent.
Elarius stood where he was, panting heavily.
The form of the rock beast began to destabilize, and chunks of stone started flaking off his body.
"You don’t want to be my enemy?"
Cheris’s voice drifted out from behind the steam, as cold as ever.
She reached out to touch the silver belt at her waist, her fingertips brushing over the deep blue Sapphire.
The gem flashed with light the moment she touched it.
"You never should have devoured the heart of a Divine Spirit."
She raised her hands again.
All ten of her fingers spread open as pure white light surged from her palms.
The light grew brighter and more brilliant, like a Sun rising in her hands.
The expressions of the four Demigods changed in unison.
They exchanged a look.
They did not retreat.
Behind them was the defensive line, countless homes and families, the final barrier protecting this land.
They could not retreat.
Aurelius was the first to move.
His body expanded once more. He transformed from his human shape into a giant dragon twice as large as before—with azure scales, massive limbs, and wings that blotted out the sun.
He shielded the front, his wings spread wide, attempting to block the descending white light with his own body.
Celeine moved next.
Her remaining hand drew rune after rune in the air before her, forming layer upon layer of light shields.
Every rune burned her Life Force.
As the light from the runes grew brighter, her face grew paler.
Elarius descended to the earth.
His legs transformed into countless roots that bored deep into the soil, making him one with the land.
The form of the rock beast reappeared, thicker, heavier, and more indestructible than before.
Valerius’s body began to change, and a giant turtle appeared.
Its shell was as black as ink, covered in a dense network of cracks. Each crack emitted a dim, dark light.
Its limbs were thick as mountain pillars. It retracted its head into its shell, leaving only a pair of golden eyes visible, its entire form becoming a living shield.
Four Demigods, four directions, four powers—converging to form a single line of defense.
Cheris looked at them, her eyes devoid of all emotion.
"Everything I have lost, I will take back."
The pure white light flared, swallowing everything.
