Chapter 603: Chapter 40: King of Wizards
The sharp-eyed supervisor was the first to notice Alonso’s movement.
Or rather, to him, a non-Imperial person like Alonso was nothing more than filth.
Filth he didn’t want to see, yet filth that stubbornly existed.
Thus, Alonso’s every move was exceptionally conspicuous in the supervisor’s eyes.
Or, more precisely, exceptionally jarring.
Even straying half a step from his post would be caught by the supervisor instantly.
To say nothing of now, when Alonso was striding forward, heading toward the two distinguished guests.
The supervisor’s expression changed in an instant.
’I can’t let him disturb the guests.’
’Absolutely not.’
If that lowly creature from the Outer Plane, Alonso, caused Lady Douglas and Mr. Melfield any displeasure, his career as a supervisor would be over.
He shot Alonso a look.
It was a fierce and sharp glare, filled with an undisguised warning.
’Stay put!’
’Get back!’
’Or you’ll be sorry!’
Alonso saw it, but he remained unmoved and continued walking forward.
The supervisor’s pupils contracted suddenly.
He immediately signaled the other waiters—all locals—with his eyes.
The young men had been bowing, their faces plastered with sycophantic smiles as they saw the distinguished guests to the main entrance.
After receiving the supervisor’s signal, they exchanged a look.
Then, their smiles changed.
No longer fawning, but ferocious.
They silently fanned out to flank him.
Their movements were light and stealthy.
The moment Cheris and Murphy walked through the main gate, the waiters quickened their pace, rushing menacingly toward Alonso.
’Don’t let the distinguished guests’ eyes be tainted by filth.’
This was their motto.
’Besides, on what grounds does someone like Alonso, from an Outer Plane, get to be on equal footing with us?’
’Today’s a perfect chance to teach him a lesson.’
However, Alonso kept moving forward without hesitation.
He saw the waiters rushing toward him.
He heard their hurried footsteps.
He could even feel the fists that were about to land on him.
But he didn’t stop.
Because he knew this was his only chance.
The waiters charged up to Alonso, and the one in the lead reached out to grab his shoulder.
Just as his fingers were about to touch Alonso’s clothes—
VWOOM!
An invisible Force Field abruptly radiated from Alonso’s body.
The Force Field was formless and intangible, yet it carried an irresistible repulsive force.
THUMP! THUMP! THUMP!
As if struck by an invisible sledgehammer, the waiters were violently thrown backward, slamming hard onto the ground.
They tumbled and groaned, unable to get up for a moment.
A series of gasps erupted from the surrounding crowd.
The guests all stopped and looked over.
Their gazes were condescending, tinged with amusement, as if they were watching an entertaining farce.
"Alonso!"
One of the waiters struggled to his feet, his face a mask of disbelief.
"You dare use Magic!"
His voice was shrill with anger and astonishment.
Of course, they knew all about Alonso’s situation.
A guy from an Outer Plane, someone drowning in debt, a poor wretch who could barely afford to eat.
’How could a good-for-nothing like him possibly have the money to use Magic?’
Casting is taxed.
Every act of Casting is recorded by the Magic Net and taxed by the Imperial government.
The more Magic you use, the more taxes you pay.
A pauper like Alonso shouldn’t be able to afford even a single apprentice-level trick.
But now, he had.
And he’d done it so decisively, so ruthlessly.
"You’re insane!"
Another waiter clambered to his feet, his face a mixture of shock and rage.
"To start a fight at the entrance of the Silver Tower... Do you have any idea where you are?!"
"Outer Plane trash, daring to run wild here!"
"Grab him! Hand him over to the City Guard!"
The waiters all began to shout, their voices growing louder as if Alonso had committed some heinous, treasonous crime.
And from their perspective, he had.
An untouchable from the Outer Plane, a parasite without even Imperial status, had dared to attack Imperial citizens at the entrance of the Silver Tower.
’What is this if not courting death?’
The surrounding guests watched the scene with great interest.
Their gazes were condescending, as if they were watching two beasts fighting in an arena for their amusement.
The supervisor’s face completely changed.
He could, of course, let the waiters continue their attack.
But what if Alonso used Magic again?
What if one of the distinguished guests got hurt?
Of course, it was impossible for the guests to be hurt.
But even if he merely disturbed Lady Douglas and Mr. Melfield, he couldn’t bear that responsibility.
’I can’t let Alonso go on like this.’
’I have to step in.’
Even if it meant slightly disturbing the guests, it was a risk he had to take.
Otherwise, Alonso’s actions would only become more severe.
The supervisor took a deep breath and strode forward.
His face wore an expression of anger and authority, mixed with a trace of fear that the VIPs would blame him.
"Alonso!"
he bellowed, his voice echoing in the portico.
"Do you have any idea what you’re doing!"
Alonso stopped and looked at the supervisor.
That same smile still hung on his pale, handsome face.
But his eyes were completely different from before.
No longer humble, no longer submissive.
Instead, they held a condescending air, similar to the lofty gazes of the guests around them.
The supervisor’s heart skipped a beat under that gaze.
But he quickly suppressed his unease.
’I am one of the Imperial People, the supervisor of the Silver Tower.’
’How could I let an untouchable from the Outer Plane intimidate me?’
"You’ve got some nerve!"
The supervisor took a step forward, his expression growing even more imperious.
