Chapter 1487: Chapter 1487: She Refuses to Become the Next Fenella
"Just because Fenella retorted him once, he beat her to death. That beast truly has no humanity, he will get what’s coming to him, he definitely will." The woman cursed viciously through gritted teeth, then as the curses faded, realizing she was in the same predicament as Fenella, she sniffled twice, bowing her head in hopeless sobs.
Most of the time, it’s the good who die without cause, while the wicked live on for centuries.
Fenella was such an honest and kind girl, yet she met such a horrible, agonizing end.
What good are her curses?
Perhaps, with Fenella gone, the next unlucky person will be her.
Even if there’s supposed to be retribution someday, she won’t live to see it.
The woman’s desperate crying and recounting of those terrible, tragic events frightened everyone in the room.
The others had pallor similar to hers, their eyes full of terror and hatred; hearing that Fenella died so miserably made everyone cry, with the violent urge to tear that man limb from limb. But with the thought that perhaps the next victim could be any of them, they shuddered uncontrollably.
Despair and fear wrapped around their necks like venomous snakes, making everyone feel they could hardly breathe.
The first woman who spoke curled up into a ball, shaking like a sieve, twitching: "We will die, we all will, no one can escape."
"I regret so much why I argued with my family back then, why I ran away from home, why I joined that so-called adventure activity."
Adventure, adventure—it truly brought her peril, but she never dreamt this danger would threaten her life.
If she had known in advance, she’d rather marry that old man she didn’t love than end up in such a miserable state.
The woman’s words reminded the others of their own reasons for leaving home; thinking about it, they felt immense regret, each holding their heads in remorse, sobbing in pain.
Suddenly, the suffocating cramped room echoed with a chorus of suppressed sobbing.
Yet, amid this oppressive atmosphere, one person was different.
From when the woman started speaking of how Fenella died to when everyone was embracing each other in tearful regret and fear, one person lay silently from start to finish on the wooden bed with a broken mat.
Everyone else was crying, yet her eyes held no tears.
In those eyes, equally filled with fear, burned an intense desire to survive.
In the dim light, her eyes, with their strong will to survive, shone brightly.
In this moment, when everyone else was collapsing in despair, crying sorrowfully, only one thought filled her mind.
That was to live.
Live, no matter what means she must use, she must live.
As long as she can live, no matter what price she has to pay, she’s willing.
The story that woman just told was a prime example, reminding her that to survive, she mustn’t resist even a bit.
She absolutely wouldn’t become the next Fenella.
She doesn’t want to die, even when others talk of committing suicide, she never thought to follow.
Years ago, she escaped from Darknight City, so now she could survive this batch of inhuman psychopaths.
If only Fenella could have obediently listened, doing whatever was asked of her, perhaps she wouldn’t have died so horribly?
