Why Are the Psychos Obsessed with a Mere NPC?

Chapter 293 - 292: Affecting Prestige

Wang Hu was so excited he wanted to give Jian Yu a bear hug.

He held back, afraid he’d get jumped by Lin Yu’s posse.

"Yu, I freaking love how generous you are! If you ever need a kid, I’ll go get the surgery and birth you a big, healthy one."

Jian Yu’s lips twitched involuntarily. "I think I’ll pass on that."

They’d been spending time together for nearly a week. And while they hadn’t bared their souls to each other, Jian Yu quite enjoyed their company.

You don’t have to search high and low for friends. When she met the right people, she was willing to offer a little more of her heart.

In the past, Jian Yu might not have been this way. But now, she had so much that she no longer needed to worry about trivial gains and losses.

Not to be outdone, Zhang Qin added, "I can have one too! I’ll have octuplets."

Jian Yu pressed her lips together and whispered, "Keep it down."

Lin Yu: "..."

Zhang Qin chuckled and gave the Fog Lizard in his hand a squeeze.

He squeezed it until the Fog Lizard’s eyes started to look a little dazed.

Zhang Qin struck a dramatic pose, gazing wistfully at the sky. ’Having a kid is impossible. It’s more like Yu is my kid. I’m a guy in college, I want a daughter. Please, just give me a soft, sweet, well-behaved daughter.’

Wang Hu took out his Contract Beast Ring. "Bought this a long time ago. I can finally put it to use."

A bright light flared.

Lin Yu shot a look sideways.

Someone cautiously took out a mini camera. "S-Sorry, I’ll delete it right now."

Jian Yu saw this and blinked, unthinking.

The person stared at her, their expression infatuated for a moment, then they grabbed their camera and ran.

Lin Yu used Instant Teleportation to block the person’s path. "Give it."

He took it, glanced at the screen, and saw it wasn’t deleted. He walked back to Jian Yu’s side. "Yu."

Jian Yu leaned in for a peek. "That’s a really good shot."

Lin Yu thought so, too.

He was a little reluctant to delete it.

The person trembled. "I’m from the film department."

Lin Yu raised a Soul Beast Cover.

He bent down slightly and whispered in Jian Yu’s ear.

"If this video gets out, I can pull a few strings behind the scenes, and all the doubts about you on the Star Network will disappear instantly."

"I can build up an image for you as a Contractor. That way, you won’t have to waste your breath explaining things in the future. Instead, people will be falling over themselves, begging you to help them form a Contract."

"The title of Contractor is far more valuable than those ’assistant contractors’ from the incubation major. Of course, if you don’t want what happened today to get out, I’ll take care of it and make sure not a single word is spread."

Jian Yu frowned.

Lin Yu stated it plainly, "The Chief said that you can make your own decisions regarding your affairs. I only need to follow your instructions; I don’t need to consult Chief Ling or the others."

All you have to do is say the word.

Jian Yu’s gaze was lost in thought. Her fingers curled slightly as she lowered her eyes, her lashes fluttering.

Instead of answering, she asked, "Lin Yu, did you evolve?"

"Yes, I’ve evolved again." Lin Yu straightened up, his fiery red hair looking exceptionally wild as it was tousled by the wind.

He lowered his head and looked at Jian Yu earnestly.

"S-rank was my starting point, and Super S-rank won’t be my end. By following the Chief, I’ll only grow stronger and stronger."

"I caught Chief Ling’s eye because I dared to fight recklessly. But because I fought so hard, I was covered in injuries. My Spirit Domain was damaged, and the Chief spent a very long time healing me."

"Even after it was healed, there were still lingering effects. Before I met you, Yu, I had almost no chance of advancing. Speaking of which, I have you to thank for that. The Chief had me stay by your side, and it was during that time I discovered my Spirit Domain was stabilizing and the side effects were gone."

Jian Yu lifted her eyes, her long lashes trembling slightly.

Lin Yu said sincerely, "Yu, every Half-awakened wants a Contracted Beast."

When he went out with the Chief, they often ran into people who didn’t know their place.

Most of the time, however, the Chief never even got a chance to act, because Lin Yu would start with courtesy and end by bankrupting their opponent.

Lin Yu glanced at the restless students stirring outside the Soul Beast Cover.

He said softly, "My recommendation is to post it online. Let everyone understand your strength. That way, those people won’t dare to offend you again, or at least, they won’t target you openly."

Jian Yu lowered her gaze, her long lashes casting a deep shadow beneath her eyes.

"Won’t it be a lot of trouble?"

Lin Yu raised an eyebrow. "Are you worried it might attract people we shouldn’t provoke? Don’t worry. I’ll put whoever shows up on a list. If I can’t beat them, I’ll have the Chief step in. As for the candidates, you can take your time choosing from the list."

After some thought, Jian Yu relented. "Okay."

Lin Yu dispelled the Soul Beast Cover and returned the camera. "Remember to post a copy to the forums."

The film student nodded vigorously. "Absolutely, I’ll post it today."

Lin Yu glanced at the time.

Maintaining a calm smile, he swept a cold gaze over everyone present and said nonchalantly, "Alright, the Chief is still waiting for us."

Lin Yu turned his head and, in a much softer tone, said, "Yu, we should get going."

Zhang Qin didn’t have time to say much more. He could only watch as the group surrounded Jian Yu and swaggered off.

Wang Hu rubbed his arms. "How can that Executive Director Lin be so two-faced?"

He’s all soft-spoken with Jian Yu, but with us, he looks down his nose at us.

So arrogant!

「Zone Five」

The moment Jian Yu entered, she was swept off her feet and into someone’s arms.

She threw her arms around the person’s neck, her eyes wide with surprise.

Xi Yu met her gaze with a woeful expression. "Baby, where did you go?"

He lowered his head and sniffed at her.

Feeling guilty, Jian Yu took out a red apple. "For you."

A shadow blurred past. Yang Zhang extended a tentacle, grasped the apple, and stored it for refrigeration beneath its abdomen.

Xi Yu’s eyes curved into crescents. "Baby knows I like apples. That must mean Baby likes me the most."

Seeing a smile appear on his stern face, Jian Yu’s heart couldn’t help but start to pound.

She had seen Xi Yu’s foolish grins and had often caught him staring at her with a burning gaze.

But more often than not, Xi Yu’s face was gloomy, his tawny eyes unblinking. He had red lips and white teeth, but he gave off a sinister air, like a beautiful youth from Miaojiang who played with venomous Gu insects.

"Baby, I was the first one to see you when I woke up." Xi Yu nuzzled Jian Yu’s cheek.

His gaze was still clingy, but his smile was so pure it could soften anyone’s heart.

Blood rushed to her face, and Jian Yu felt her cheeks burning.

She touched her face. It was hot. She was definitely blushing.

It took Jian Yu a moment to process. "Ayan and the others aren’t awake yet?"

She turned her head and saw Pei Yin, looking as if he’d been dealt a heavy blow, a trace of disappointment in his eyes and expression.

Pei Yin turned his head away. "He woke up. Just fell asleep again."

Jian Yu dug her fingernails into her thumb.

She pecked Xi Yu on the corner of his lips. "Put me down."

Xi Yu whimpered like a puppy, begging for more kisses.

Jian Yu immediately wiped the smile from her face, replacing it with a deadpan expression.

Xi Yu’s lips turned down, and he dejectedly put her down.

Jian Yu couldn’t help but wail internally.

’I can’t bear to part with this one, and I can’t let go of that one.’

’I’m such a player.’

Jian Yu took Xi Yu’s hand and led him over.

Lin Yu hadn’t let anyone else in. He stood guard alone by Ling Yanzhi’s bed.

Lin Yu remained silent for a long time.

Then, with a serious, meticulous, and angry expression, he said, "Chief Pei, could you please give Chief Ling his own bed? Putting them on the same hospital bed like this really damages my Chief’s magnificent image."

Jian Yu crouched by the bed, looking at Ling Yanzhi’s unconscious face, and suddenly felt the urge to cry.

Tears welled in her eyes, but Lin Yu’s comment instantly broke through her emotional defenses.

’In an empty laboratory, two people on one hospital bed... it really does kind of ruin the vibe.’
