Who Says I'm Not a Proper Adventurer?
Chapter 253: Captivity, Desire, Possession
Chapter 253: Chapter 253: Captivity, Desire, Possession
"Is this your unique way of treating guests?"
Lance remained completely unruffled by the situation.
He pushed off the soft bed with both hands, sitting up straight from her tempting lap and decisively putting some distance between them.
Seeing Lance pull away so decisively, without a hint of reluctance...
At her side, Yvette’s fingers involuntarily clenched the bedsheet beneath her, wrinkling the smooth fabric, but she quickly and furtively released her grip.
’How could she not be angry?’
In truth, Yvette was already about to explode with rage.
On the first day, when she realized Lance hadn’t entered her dream, she was merely puzzled, thinking he might have been busy with some urgent matter in the real world.
By the second night, however, she sensed something was wrong, and anxiety began to creep in.
She focused on the mark left on his soul.
The mark was still there, but due to the distance, she could only sense that Lance was in a faraway region, unable to pinpoint his exact location.
By the third day...
She finally understood completely.
’That bastard Lance is definitely avoiding me on purpose!’
This suspicion made the anger in Yvette’s heart flare up instantly, as if doused in hot oil.
After setting her sights on Lance...
Yvette developed a very strong possessiveness towards him.
Perhaps it was because of her sister’s control over her since childhood that she never felt she had truly been in charge of her own life.
Before the Fate Witches came to be...
Fate was a cage from which generations of Witches could not escape. Countless Witches throughout history had died at the cruel hands of destiny.
Many tragic love stories originated from Witches.
Besides that...
Or perhaps it was because, after being steeped in the nature of the Nightmare, she discovered that Lance might be...
But regardless of the reason...
Choosing Lance represented a true act of defiance against her predetermined destiny.
’Yvette had always harbored the desire to defy fate. She longed for something that belonged completely and utterly to her—something that neither destiny nor her sister could take away.’
’And Lance was her attempt.’
’But she never imagined that after only two days, her chosen prey would already be trying to avoid her.’
This caused Yvette’s emotions to shift from initial anger to a panicked anxiety, a fear of loss.
Finally, she used her formidable willpower to force herself to calm down completely.
’She knew her previous approach had been wrong.’
Now...
’She had to establish a relationship of trust based on mutual interests, then slowly plot a course to achieve her ultimate goal: making him her captive.’
’She couldn’t rush the process of closing her net.’
’She had to be patient, to slowly, step by step, turn Lance into a possession that could never leave her side for the rest of his life.’
And so, that led to this evening’s seemingly calm and unconventional meeting.
But she had truly overestimated her own self-control.
That small, distancing gesture from Lance just now had nearly shattered her composure and sent her into a blind rage.
Yvette took a deep breath, forcibly suppressing the surging negative emotions back into her heart.
When she raised her head again, an elegant smile was already on her face.
"Let’s start over."
"I am Yvette, and I’m not just the top student of Violet Academy’s third-year class."
"I’m also a true Witch."
Hearing this introduction, Lance’s expression didn’t visibly change, but inwardly, he was quite shocked.
’He’d never expected it.’
’It hadn’t been long since he’d left the Destiny Track Dungeon, yet here in the Material Realm, he had run straight into another living, breathing Witch.’
"I assume you’ve already met Senior Elisya, so you shouldn’t be a stranger to the existence of our Witch Race, a Sub-human Species."
"The souls of Witches are naturally drawn to men who are destined to forge grand epics and bear heavy fates."
The men chosen by Witches throughout history have, without exception, led magnificent lives. Most of them even became Legendary.
"This is a fate carved into our souls from the first day the Witch Race was born into this world, one that cannot be changed."
"And I am the Witch who has been drawn to you."
Yvette suddenly let out a soft laugh, a sound that was rather alluring in the quiet room.
She leaned in slightly, her lips close to Lance’s ear.
"That night, I originally just wanted to test you, to see if I could get any secrets about Senior Elisya out of you."
"But things took a small, uncontrollable turn."
At these words, Lance felt a pang of awkwardness.
’He knew full well that he was the one at fault, the root cause of the situation spiraling out of control.’
"If a Witch is destined to be drawn to a man who can become Legendary..."
"Then why wouldn’t I choose you in advance?"
Her breath was a fragrant whisper against Lance’s ear, a warm puff of air that sent a faint, tingling itch across his skin.
Her fingertips landed on his shoulder, gently, ambiguously, tracing the fabric of his clothes.
Lance tilted his head away slightly and voiced his own question.
"Then what exactly is this ’Nightmare Infusion’? Is that supposed to be your idea of friendly cooperation?"
The thought of waking up to find himself saddled with a status effect made him extremely uneasy.
"That is the purest Energy from the source of the Nightmare."
Yvette leaned back, sitting upright once more.
"I am the Nightmare Witch. Dreams and desires are the source of my Power."
"Every sensory interaction in the dream will strip out the Nightmare’s Energy and infuse your soul."
Yvette explained in great detail.
"You should be able to clearly feel that this status is not a negative Effect at all, but rather a blessing that countless Professionals outside would beg for even in their dreams."
"This is also why so many people in this world pursue Witches."
"No matter what type of Witch you encounter, she will have her own unique way of bringing unimaginable benefits to her chosen partner."
"And this Nightmare Infusion isn’t just a huge boost for you—it’s the same for me."
Yvette opened her pale hand and gazed into her palm.
"It helps me delve deeper into my control over the Nightmare, allowing my strength to grow rapidly."
"This is absolutely a win-win situation for both of us, with no downsides."
"But because the infusion is still at a Basic level, I can’t say for sure what kind of buffing Effects we’ll see once it’s more complete."
’No wonder.’
’Only now did Lance finally understand why the system had classified the infusion as a buff.’
’So this thing really was a rare, high-level buff.’
