Chapter 1803 - 1059: Crimson Corruption Takes the MVP! (2)

  • Next Chapter

The Holy Light Sect believer raised his head and looked toward the land swallowed by corruption; what lay there was literally a scene straight out of Purgatory.

But as long as this endlessly stretching Fire Wall stood beside him, there was absolutely no need to worry about the corruption spilling over. All he had to do was honestly keep feeding fuel into the Fire Wall and he could sleep soundly.

Thinking of it that way, he suddenly felt that, as he checked the Fire Wall for damage, he was basically a Savior. His work seemed to have some meaning now.

What the believer failed to notice was—

On the bricks at the root of the Fire Wall he trusted to perfectly block the spread of corruption, tiny white fungi had already piled up at that very moment.

After finishing his patrol of the section he was responsible for, and finding no damage, the Holy Light Sect believer immediately planned to go back to camp and keep sleeping.

But just then, a lookout’s scream erupted from the camp’s watchtower.

"What is that! What the hell is that—"

The lookout’s scream sounded like he’d just witnessed some unnameable horror and his SAN value got hard-reset to zero. The Holy Light Sect believer, along with everyone in the camp, couldn’t help but turn to look into the distance.

"Huh?"

He was stunned for a second, a confused sound slipping out of his mouth on reflex.

Then his face drained of all color. He pointed toward the distance, babbling incoherently, tried to turn and run, only for his knees to give out so he collapsed straight onto the ground, his eyes filled with sheer terror as he stared...

Stared at the tide of Crimson Corruption surging toward them from afar.

Closer, ever closer, until he finally saw that tide’s true face.

And once he saw what the wave was made of, the Holy Light Sect believer would rather have been blind.

Hundreds, thousands of different kinds of insects crawled across every inch of visible ground. Infected by the Crimson Corruption, they had become the background color of the tidal wave; above the frenzied swarm of bugs were countless beasts, wild and domestic, more than the Demon Clan believer had seen in his entire life—and more than he could even begin to count!

A monkey whose left half had been eaten away by corruption used its intact right arm to hurl a lizard with a grotesquely swollen belly; the moment the lizard hit the ground, it exploded into an unknown number of red flying insects and vomit-inducing slime.

A horse covered in white blotches ran shoulder to shoulder with a cheetah whose spine had burst open like a grotesque blossom. A giraffe, its neck nearly snapped but forcibly stitched back together by fungal threads of corruption, galloped in wild abandon. Behind them, a herd of elephants that had become a moving Crimson Corruption fortress howled at the sky, long trunks spewing out animals in all shapes and sizes infected by corruption.

The sky was completely blotted out by the same crimson flocks of birds, and the Demon Clan even spotted dozens of Monster Flying Dragon Species among them.

The sky-darkening crimson tide crashed toward their camp, everything within sight reduced to a single color.

The Demon Clan were scared stupid.

"Run!" Someone shouted, no one knew who. The Holy Light Sect believer’s survival instinct exploded and he tried to bolt on the spot—but he had just gotten to his feet when he collapsed again.

Run where?

Everywhere, everywhere was filled with creatures totally controlled by the Crimson Corruption. Not a single patch of land under the heavens wasn’t drenched in that crimson color.

"Aaaahhh!"

The Demon Clan believer himself started shrieking, covering his eyes, trying to make sure he died without knowing how. As he did this, he had already smelled the all-encompassing reek of rot sweeping over him.

The tide of Crimson Corruption roared as it drowned the camp.

It slammed head-on into the Fire Wall built to block corruption.

"Uh, huh? I’m... not dead?"

After waiting several seconds and still not feeling death descend upon him, the believer finally worked up the nerve to open his eyes.

He saw the tide of Crimson Corruption flowing around him. The monstrously twisted creatures infected by it had left a one-meter circle of empty space centered on his body; not even an ant stepped into it.

The bizarre scene left the believer completely dumbstruck.

Their camp had been smashed into a field of rubble by the collision, but every Holy Light Sect believer survived. Everyone was standing there, dazed, not knowing what to do, only able to turn and watch what these animals were actually doing.

If his eyesight wasn’t broken, then these creatures infected by the Crimson Corruption were ramming the Fire Wall?

How did they even dare!? Wasn’t the Fire Wall specifically built to block corruption—

"Boom!"

The believers’ internal monologue wasn’t finished when they saw the Crimson Corruption tide smash the Fire Wall to pieces, then surge in a crashing flood into the red land behind it.

The believers stayed perfectly still, not daring to so much as twitch, question marks popping up above their heads one after another as their confusion about the situation peaked.

Where did this Crimson Corruption come from, what was it trying to do now, what were they supposed to do, and...

Why did it feel like there was a "color difference" between the two sides of Crimson Corruption?

That direct comparison made it suddenly obvious: the newly arrived infected creatures were pure, uncut crimson, whereas the corruption that had long ago spread across the land was a slightly paler, more washed-out scarlet.

"Faded?"

Then the believer saw something even more unbelievable.

The creatures infected by the old corruption, which had been prowling across that land, suddenly bared their fangs and claws and lunged at the newly arrived animals and Monsters!

He saw a former coworker of his, now infected, rush forward and crush who knew how many bugs, only to have his head ripped off by a charging giant ape; he saw a war-elephant in full frontal assault have half its body bitten away by a giant dragon whose entire body was fungal growth.

The corruption forces that usually lay low and calm suddenly exploded with a number of troops that couldn’t even be counted in the blink of an eye—and there was even a Dragon in the mix!

The scene made the believer’s skin crawl, goosebumps standing up all over him.

So he’d been strolling around in a place this dangerous all along?

The Crimson Corruption advanced, the corruption struck back.

The battlefield turned into a flesh-and-blood meat grinder in an instant, and between living creatures there remained only the simplest, most brutal slaughter.

The Monsters serving as vessels for corruption died, but as their blood and flesh splashed across the earth, Crimson Corruption and corruption both flowed out of the meat and immediately continued their mutual slaughter.

For this war, death was not the end.

And the ad-hoc forces the corruption mustered couldn’t withstand the sky-covering offensive of the Crimson Corruption at all. It couldn’t even redeploy troops from other places, because its territory was under full-scale attack from every direction!

Seen from above, this was a war of crimson invading scarlet.

Across the entire Demon Continent, never had any war ever achieved such a colossal battlefield scale!

The forces that had built Fire Walls along the corruption’s domain were all alarmed, even terrified. No one had any idea how this end-of-the-world scene had come to be.

The only thing they could cling to as comfort right now was that these Monsters infected by the crimson hue seemed utterly indifferent to Demon Clan lives.

Truly an unfortunate blessing.

The Mad Fire Cultists witnessed the entire war; this spectacle would become the kind of memory they could never forget for the rest of their lives.

The crimson tide drowned the earth, pulverizing any color that stood in its path, even corruption that looked so similar to it.

It was unstoppable.

Every inch of land behind the Fire Walls that the Crimson Corruption flowed across—every patch of scarlet left behind by the old corruption—was completely covered over, replaced by that pure crimson.

In just a single afternoon, every bit of land within the Mad Fire Cultists’ field of vision had its color deepened; the entire expanse of earth burst into crimson bloom.

In places the believers couldn’t see, the Crimson Corruption kept expanding, expanding, expanding within corruption’s domain, until it drowned everything.

The whole process took one full month.

The land of bootleg corruption—every last thing upon it was seized and controlled by the Crimson Corruption.

The corrupted creatures that had originally inhabited this land were all crushed to dust beneath the crimson...

The Crimson Corruption took the MVP!

"So this way, maybe the hidden threat will finally be dealt with?"

Inside the Sain Dungeon.

Gong Qiying looked out over the land that had become a dead, silent waste, yet couldn’t shake the unease in his heart, the feeling that the Evil God’s scheme hadn’t been completely thwarted.

How about... plowing this whole place over one more time?
