Who Designed This Underworld Dungeon?
Chapter 1793 - 1054: Say NO to the Abyss! (Part 2)
As for the toxin...
Chrono was astonished to discover that this world actually had toxins he couldn’t be immune to.
The Demon Clan, with their physique enhanced to extraordinary levels, were almost immune to various toxins due to the miasma present on the Demon Continent.
But now, the toxins inside Fran Fort were affecting them, and the accumulation speed wasn’t slow either.
"This is a highly poisonous substance our bodies have never encountered before." Chrono quickly realized and then sliced through a nearby tree with his sword, rubbing its trunk a few times with his claws.
Wooden leg armor capable of temporarily isolating the toxin appeared.
The other demons handled it more straightforwardly, either toppling trees and wrapping vines around their feet or striding ahead briskly until they reached an open space to rest.
The nuisance caused by the toxins was limited for them.
While they were busy dismantling the place, hordes of gollums were already eyeing them and within moments, dozens leapt from the treetops heading straight for the demons’ heads.
"Kill!" Chrono issued the simplest command.
The transformed demons used their bodies as weapons, fists and various demon beast organs proving more effective than weaponry.
The roar of destruction echoed continuously through the forest, and the group of gollums was soon decimated!
"Haha, that was effortless."
Yet before the demons could celebrate, they heard a rush of footsteps from the front, and turning around, they saw even more gollums charging at them than before.
"They should realize the gap in strength now."
Chrono looked at the group of monsters charging toward him despite not fleeing, feeling annoyed. He preferred creatures that recognized their power and made rational choices, not these impulsive furred monsters.
He swung his longsword, instantly releasing a black Sword Qi tinged with the Demon King’s power, slicing dozens of the gollums before him in half.
Even with this result, Chrono was still unsatisfied.
He glanced at his longsword, its blade speckled with signs of erosion from something—the damage caused by the abyss mimicked by the Abyss Legion during battles.
These spots affected the weapon’s power, but he didn’t replace it because he wanted it to remind him constantly.
Someday, I will annihilate the Abyss Legion!
Indeed, Onora hadn’t informed him that the Abyss Legion was one of their own.
The demons vented their violence on the gollums but suddenly sensed something amiss.
This group of gollums didn’t seem very eager to fight, their numbers increased but the threat level was far less than the first wave.
"Something’s not right; they’re not attacking me," Chrono noticed sharply, "they’re running away, stop the attack!"
Just as he said, when he ordered his demon troops to cease attacking the gollums, these furred monkey-like monsters immediately abandoned the brawl and fled without looking back.
As if fleeing from some greater horror.
"What are they escaping from..."
The development made Chrono sense something wrong, but ignorant of the details, he had to proceed.
Until they finally approached the Fran Fort.
"Bang!" "Boom—" "Boom!"
The intense sounds of battle clearly reached the ears of the demons, and Chrono signaled his soldiers to stay put and peeked through the dense foliage.
In front of Fran Fort’s gates was a fierce battle.
Several members of the Fran Undead Team and a Crystal Elder guarded the gate, their emanating strength making Chrono utter an "Ah" involuntarily.
Those were the sources he couldn’t identify before; now, seeing them up close, he could sense their power.
It seemed...
"Those with pointy hats, they all qualify to challenge me."
Chrono habitually used arrogant words but quickly corrected himself, muttering:
"No, they give me a feeling surpassing the Legion Commanders in the army."
As he looked at the enemies of the Fran Undead Team, his eyes widened with shock, more surprised than discovering the Undead Team’s prowess.
The branch in his hand exploded, his gaze reddening, teeth squeezing out two words.
"The abyss..."
On the opposite side of the Fran Undead Team was the spreading Abyssal Black Mud!
And a large number of Soul-sucking Ghosts stood resting atop the mud, numbering up to a hundred, giving an apocalyptic impression when gathered.
"Why is there an abyss here?"
Wasn’t the abyss emerging from the notorious Sain Dungeon, why was it appearing in the Twilight Dungeon?
Could it be... the real culprit occupying the Twilight Dungeon was Sain Dungeon!?
Such thoughts made Chrono get chills.
His reaction wasn’t embarrassing, not at all, because he might be facing that formidable Sain Dungeon!
The Demon Race Sage turned Demon King, a potential ancestor of his, perished at Sain’s hand, let alone the constant news prior of Sain thwarting the demon race’s schemes, Sain Dungeon’s name was widely known.
When Chrono was younger and impulsive, he held grudges against Sain; yet over the year, all that remained was reverence and a wish to stay far away from Sain Dungeon.
"If it’s really Sain Dungeon, we can’t possibly cooperate."
He mumbled to himself.
Or perhaps Sain didn’t occupy Twilight Dungeon?
Perhaps the abyss could arise in other dungeons, something so ancient and powerful couldn’t exclusively belong to Sain?
Such thoughts calmed him slightly, though only a little, planning for the worst, if Sain genuinely occupied here, surviving meant either mercy or disdain from them.
Either way, he had to act carefully next!
Chrono forced himself to focus back on Fran Undead Team versus the abyss.
While he was wary of Fran Undead Team, the abyss and Soul-sucking Ghosts disgusted and enraged him!
His fondness for the abyss had dwindled to negatives from repeated battles against the Abyss Legion.
"They’re in battle, should I choose sides?"
Typically, dungeons would have adventurers face such choices at crucial junctures, right?
His study of dungeons was shallow, relying on hearsay to deduce.
If Chronicle had to choose, he would undoubtedly draw his sword against the abyss.
But.
As he gazed at the genuine abyss under the Soul-sucking Ghosts’ feet, unlike the Abyss Legion’s imitation.
A strong sense of temptation emanated from the Black Mud.
As if a voice whispered to him: embrace the abyss, gain supreme power, neither Demon King nor Hero would match you...
"No!"
Chrono suddenly shouted, his Demon King Bloodline aura unleashed, instantly clearing his mind of distractions.
"I, as a proud Demon King heir, will never grovel to the abyss!"
He spoke lines even he found impressive, though his soldiers behind him urged him to look ahead.
Upon another glance, due to his loud declaration, both the Fran Undead Team and the Soul-sucking Ghosts looked at him.
"What are you waiting for, attack, destroy the abyss!"
Chrono roared imposingly.
They chose to aid the Fran Undead Team against the abyss!
